Valentine, McCoy help
teams win scholastic
honors
Local student members of Brenau University Golden
Tigers intercollegiate athletics programs helped place
their teams in the National Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics rankings for top Scholar Team awards.
Ashley Valentine, a freshman middle blocker on the
Brenau volleyball team from Hoschton, and Ashley
McCoy, a sophomore runner on the Brenau cross
country team from Maysville, helped their respective
teams earn this honor.
To be eligible for the prestigious national honor for
student athletes, all the members of the team must
post grade point averages that result in an overall
team GPAof more than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
“Brenau University in the past few years has put
intercollegiate teams on the field that compete nation
ally in various sports, and we are extremely proud of
that fact,” said Brenau President Ed Schrader. “But it
is a source of special pride that we have the Scholar
Team distinction for six of our teams. It demonstrates
that these well-rounded young women have their
priorities straight as student athletes: student first and
athlete second.”
