daughter, Ashley Nicole
Puntervold, to Christopher
“Chris” Allan Kubiak,
Gainesville, son of John and
Julie Puckett, Arcade.
The bride-elect is the
granddaughter of W.A. and
Christine Martin, Talmo, and
the late Arthur and Valerie
Puntervold, Athens. She is
a 2003 graduate of Jackson
County Comprehensive
High School and graduat
ed magna cum laude from
Piedmont College where she
received a bachelor’s degree
in early childhood educa
tion. She is employed by
OS6 Freightlines as a dis
patcher.
The future groom is the
grandson of Arlene Kubiak,
Summerville, Fla., and the
late Daniel Kubiak. He is
a 2003 gradate of JCCHS.
He is employed as a general
manager at Subway.
The wedding will be held
Oct. 15,2011, in Gainesville.

Lamar Hiland, Hull, announce
the engagement and forthcom
ing marriage of their daughter,
Cecilia Nicole “Nicki” Hiland,
Danielsville, to Joshua Michael
“Josh” Jones, Danielsville, son
of Mike Jones, Nicholson.
The bride-elect is the grand
daughter of Martha Crisler,
Jefferson; Ben Crisler, Brandon,
Fla.; the late Rosemary Bayes;
and the late Cecil Hiland. She
is a 2007 graduate of Jefferson
High School and a 2010 gradu
ate of Athens Technical College
with an associates degree in
applied science. She is
employed as a licensed physi
cal therapist assistant at Peak
Rehabilitation, Jefferson.
The future groom is the
grandson of Shirley Leachman,
Maysville, and the late Bobby
Worley. He is a 2006 graduate of
JacksonCounty Comprehensive
High School and is employed
in the engineering department
at CSX Railways, Athens.
The wedding will be held
at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct.
22, 2011, at The Bam at Price
Mountain Farm, Pendergrass.

ment and forthcoming mar
riage of their daughter, Hannah
Rebecca Grant, Commerce, to
Samuel Jordan Boswell, son
of Susan and John Boswell,
Jefferson.
The wedding will be
held on Oct. 22, 2011,at
the Pendergrass House in
Jefferson with Larry Brown
officiating.
The bride will be given in
marriage by her step-father,
Shane Carver. The maid of
honor will be Cortney Grant.
The bridal attendants will
be: Natalie Flanagan, Emma
Boswell, Emily Santerre,
Kayla Taylor and Elyse
Young. The flower girl will
be Isabella Boswell.
The best man will be
Jonathan Boswell. The
groom's attendants will be:
Joseph Boswell, Tyler Crane,
Adam Nichols, Hunter Brown
and Wesley Daniels. Coleman
Fowler will be the ring bear
er.
A reception will be held
following the ceremony at the
Pendergrass House.
CELEBRATE 70TH ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hawks, Nicholson, celebrated their
70th wedding anniversary on Aug. 2. They were married
in Anderson, S.C. The event, planned by the Odyssey
Hospice Staff, was a time of remembrance with the
couple and was enjoyed by family and friends.

Jefferson Heritage Tree Council releases 2012 calendar
JEFFERSON’S Heritage
Tree Council (JHTC) has
released a 2012 calendar fea
turing color photographs of 15
trees in Jefferson which have
been named to the Heritage
Tree Register.
The 13-month wall calen
dar also includes time-specific
tree care tips and trivia about
the tree species in the featured
photograph.
The calendars are avail
able for $12 each at Jefferson
City Hall, the Jefferson Public
Library and the Crawford W.
Long Museum.
All proceeds from sales
go to the Jefferson Tree
Establishment Fund, which
provides for the addition and
maintenance of trees in city
parks and streetscapes.
JHTC has named 24 trees
to the register since the found
ing of the program in 2007.
The Jefferson Heritage Tree
Council, founded in 2007, is
focused on the preservation,
planting and stewardship of
trees in the City of Jefferson.
The council works to pro
mote a healthy community
forest, to encourage protec
tion of mature, significant
and historic trees throughout
the area, to educate the pub
lic about the vital benefits of
trees, and to actively engage
Jefferson residents in attain
ing these benefits now and in
the future. In serving its com
munity, the council supports
a comprehensive and sustain
able approach to community
forestry management and
local ordinances that protect
the public tree resource.
