‘Clothesline Art’ winners named by TWS
THE TUMBLING
Waters Society sponsored a
“Clothesline Art” contest for
Jackson County, Jefferson and
Commerce art students.
The top winners were:
Cassidy Steele, first place, East
Jackson; Ivy Nguyen, second
place, Jackson County; Iris
Mora, third place, East Jackson;
Daniel Harwood, fourth place;
and MacKenzie Mobley, fifth
place, Jefferson.
First place elementary school
winners were: Ivy Tolbert,
Nicholas Yath, Nora Pittman,
Kristin Tash, Jaida Wall and
Joshua Massey.
Second place elementary
school winners were: Kinsleigh
Fuller, Eli Whidby, Dawson
Nicholson, Caitlin Schroeder,
Kayla Graham and Jacob
Creek.
Third place elementary
school winners were: Rylee
Allen, Grade Williams, Cale
Howington, Kyiah Hollon and
Caleb Doster.

UDC to hold
meeting Tues.
THE J.E.B. Stuart Chapter
of the United Daughters of the
Confederacy will hold its October
meeting on Saturday, October 8,
at the Commerce Public Library
at 10:30 a.m.
One of the main goals of this
chapter is to honor all veterans
and once a year in April, a pro
gram is held at Spencer Park to
award medals to deserving veter
ans and to honor ancestors. The
program this year will be April
17 at Spencer Park at 2 p.m. The
public is invited to attend.
Any veteran that has been in
the United States military and has
a confederate ancestor, he or she
is eligible for a military medal.
Those interested in a medal or
membership are asked to email
jebstuart861 @yahoo.com.
The UDC is a non-profit orga
nization with its objectives being
Benelevent, Historical, Patriotic,
Memorial and Education.

of Library Trustees will meet on
Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 4 p.m., at the
Braselton Library.
The Piedmont Regional Board
of Library Trustees will meet at
5:30 p.m.
Folk Art
Pottery
GILLSVILLE EVENT
Potter Mike Craven (on the pot
tery wheel) held a special event
last Saturday for folk art potters
in the Northeast Georgia Area at
his Gillsville pottery. Among the
area potters participating in the
event in addition to Craven were
Whelchel Meaders, Kurt Hewell,
Harold Ferguson, Jonathan
Ervin and others. The Northeast
Georgia area has a long, rich his
tory of potters and folk pottery.
ARTWORK ON T-SHIRT
The Tumbling Waters Society sponsored a “Clothesline
Art” contest for Jackson County, Jefferson and
Commerce art students. The grand prize was $25
and having the winning drawing go on the 2012 Art in
the Park T-Shirt. East Jackson Comprehensive High
School eleventh grader Cassidy Steele was the grand
prize winner. She is a student in Nancy Aiken’s art
class. JoAnn Lee, chairman of the contest, is shown
presenting the award.
