Animal complaints among incidents reported to sheriff’s office
INCIDENTS REPORTED
to the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office last week included sev
eral related to animals, includ
ing the following:
•a man took his dead dog
to a Hwy. 129 business to
find out what it died from.
He suspected his neighbor
of killing the dog. He was
informed that the dog died
of heat stroke. The man then
made a threatening statement
about his neighbor, who he
did not name.
•a Trussell Ridge,
Pendergrass, man reportedly
fired his gun into the ground
three times. He told the dep
uty called to the scene that he
did it because his neighbor’s
large dog was out and his wife
was scared that it would jump
on their little dog.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to
the sheriffs office last week
includes the following:
•a Swann Circle, Jefferson,
woman called 911 when a
suspicious woman came to
her door and asked to use
the phone. The woman said
she appeared to be under the
influence of something. The
woman had left the property
when the deputy arrived. The
deputy told the woman to call
if she returned.
•a Pocket Road, Braselton,
woman said she was threat
ened by her step-daughter’s
boyfriend when she asked the
couple to move out of her
home.
•a Beacon Drive, Maysville,
woman said someone called
her residence and threatened
to kill her. She said it was a
male, who also said that he
“would be watching” her.
•a Hwy. 82, Jefferson, man said
a woman refused to leave his resi
dence after being asked to do so.
•a B. Wilson Road,
Commerce, woman called
police when her grandson,
who was recently released
from jail, showed up at her
house and began demanding
that she get drugs for him.
The woman said the suspect
had been in jail for cutting her
sister’s throat and that other
family members had bonded
him out, but he was quickly
re-arrested for cruelty to chil
dren and served eight days for
that. The victim stated that she
gave her grandson something
to eat, then called another
family member to come pick
up her grandson and get him
off her property after he began
demanding drugs. The victim
further reported that the fam
ily member who picked up
her grandson had called to
report that the suspect had
tried to jump out of the car
while it was moving in order
to get back to the victim’s
residence..
•a Dan Waters Road,
Commerce, woman sum
moned police after she and
her boyfriend had been argu
ing and she wanted to have an
officer at the house while she
tried to pack some belongings
for her and her daughter to
go somewhere else for the
night. As the officer waited,
the woman and her boyfriend
began arguing again, at which
point the officer stopped them
and told them they needed to
separate. The woman denied
any physical violence and did
not want to press charges. The
boyfriend’s ride arrived while
the officer was still there and
he left. The woman said her
ride was on the way and she
would be leaving to go stay
with her mother permanently.
•an Adams Road, Jefferson,
woman called police when she
realized she would not be able
to get all of her belongings
into her car as she was leaving
her husband. The woman said
she wanted to be sure none of
her belongings were damaged
before she could get back
to collect them. The officer
spoke with her husband and
he said he didn’t have a prob
lem with her coming back
for the rest of her things. The
officer advised the woman to
make an appointment with a
sheriff’s deputy to escort her
back to the residence when
she was ready to pick up the
remainder of her items.
•on Highway 11 in Jefferson,
an officer made contact with a
man who had reportedly been
walking down the road trying
to flag down drivers. When
the officer questioned the
man, he said he was tired and
was just resting. The officer
obtained the man’s identifica
tion and checked to be sure
he did not have warrants out
and then asked him where he
was headed. The man said he
was trying to get to a location
in Jefferson where he was
to meet his roommate who
was going to take him home.
The officer gave the man a
lift to the location and met
with the roommate who said
she’d been waiting on him
and would have gone to get
him if she’d known he was
walking to where she was.
•a Tal Phillips Road,
Nicholson, man reported that
someone had stolen his mail
box.
•on Highway 124,Hoschton,
a woman reported that as her
car was going through the car
wash at the Exxon station, it
came off the conveyor belt
and hit a pole inside the car
wash. The woman said the
gas station employee told her
there was no damage to her
car, but when the car came out
at the end of the car wash, she
saw damage to the right front
fender.
•a Peppers Street, Jefferson,
residence was the scene of an
attempted burglary. When an
officer responded to the call,
he met with two people who
described two suspects they
saw running from the home as
the complainants approached
it. The complainants said they
were watching the house for a
friend. The officer saw where
the inside front door had pry
marks where the suspects
had attempted to break in. An
extra patrol was requested for
the area.
•on Highway 82 Spur,
Maysville, an officer patrol
ling the area around the Pat
Bell Conference Center came
across a metal box on the
ground near the fence line.
The officer opened the box
and saw personal mail, photos
and other papers. The officer
took the box back to the sher
iff’s office and logged it in
with a receipt number.
•a Cane Creek Lane, Athens,
woman reported that a neigh
bor of hers told her that her
ex-husband had been at her
home, removing items from
the home. The woman report
ed she was missing a DVD
player, a computer monitor
and keyboard and a printer. It
was unknown how the suspect
gained entry to the house as
there was no sign of forced
entry.
•a Sawdust Trail, Nicholson,
woman reported that after
being released from court on
the previous day, a man who
had been charged with mak
ing terroristic threats began
texting her and was in viola
tion of a no contact bond
that was in place. The officer
advised the woman to save all
messages, but not to respond.
The officer also advised the
woman that if the man came
to her home or business that
she should call 911 and not
have any contact with the sus
pect.
•a Staplers Bridge Road,
Nicholson, man reported that
someone had come onto his
property and cut the brake
lines and the line to the power
steering on his vehicle. The
man gave the officer informa
tion on his neighbors, who he
believed did the damage after
a dispute earlier in the week,
but the neighbors were not at
home at the time of the offi
cer’s report.
•on Winford Smith Road,
Athens, a woman reported
that she had visited friends
for a short while and had sold
them some tickets to the South
Jackson Fire Department’s
upcoming barbecue. The
woman said that while she
was at the house, she laid
the envelope containing the
tickets and the money she’d
already collected from sales
on the bed in a back bed
room. The woman said she
left the room for a brief period
of time and when she came
back, the envelope was gone.
A male known to the residents
of the house went into the
bedroom while the victim was
not there and, after the victim
discovered the envelope was
gone, he was confronted by
the residents about it. The
man denied knowing anything
about the envelope and said
he never saw it.
•a Brockton Road, Jefferson,
man reported that someone
entered his home without
his permission and stole a
30-30 lever-action rifle. The
man said he could not find
any signs of forced entry and
does not know how the thief
entered the house.
•on West Broad Street in
Hoschton, a man reported that
one of the vendors at the fes
tival was trying to pass what
appeared to be a counterfeit
$20 bill. The officer met with
the vendor, who stated he had
received the $20 bill from
someone the previous day to
pay for food at his vending
stand. The officer looked at
the bill and believed it to be
counterfeit, so he took the bill
into evidence.
•disturbance at a New Cut
Road, Braselton, location. A
woman said her neighbors
were making a lot of noise
and that her boyfriend walked
next door to ask them to quiet
down. The boyfriend said they
did quiet down when he asked
them to.
•a Hwy. 60, Braselton, cou
ple said that after they went to
bed, they heard someone open
the door that leads under their
house. The deputy looked
around the house and did not
see anyone.
•verbal dispute between
several people at a Hwy. 129,
Jefferson, location after they
had been waiting over one
hour for a tow truck to arrive.
•a Waterford Place, Athens,
man said someone damaged
his truck while it was parked
outside his residence over
night.
•a woman said she was at a
Homer Road, Commerce, busi
ness when someone stole her
prescription medication. It was
in a lock-box in a truck in the
parking lot when it was stolen.
•deer stand stolen from a
Diamond Hill Church Road,
Maysville, location.
•a Beacon Drive, Maysville,
man said he believes someone
is trying to break into his
house. He found several foot
prints underneath one of the
windows.
•an Oak Grove Road,
Athens, man said that he and
his wife heard tin banging
near a barn on their property.
He called 911 and went down
to the barn and found a pick
up truck loaded with 20 pieces
of tin from the barn. No one
was around. The truck was
removed from the property.
•light fixtures and copper
electrical wire taken from a
vacant home at a Groaning
Rock Road, Commerce,
address.
•a Quail Ridge Drive,
Nicholson, woman said
her ex-boyfriend is making
harassing phone calls to her.
She said she left him after a
domestic dispute in which the
police were called.
•a Highland Way, Maysville,
man said a juvenile threatened
him on facebook. He said she said
she was going to say that he raped
her if he did not talk to her.
•a Hwy. 53, Braselton,
woman said she found a dog
in the road that was alive,
but had been struck by two
vehicles.
•a Lanier Road, Pendergrass,
woman said she heard some
one knocking on her door. She
didn’t see anyone.
•a Hwy. 60, Pendergrass,
woman said someone stole
prescription medication from
her residence.
•a Unity Church Road,
Maysville, woman reported
reckless driving on the road.
Thirty-one sentenced in State Court

THIRTY-ONE PEOPLE were
sentenced in recent State Court
proceedings in Jackson County,
including the following:
•Josefa Aguiar, driving without
a license. $703 fine. A charge
of tail light violation was dis
missed.
•Maretta Sue Ayers, deposit
account fraud, $500 fine and 12
months probation.
•Herbert Eugene Bates, simple
assault, $500 fine, 12 months
probation and no violent contact
with the victim.
•Justin Lee Booth, suspend
ed license, $1,000 fine and 12
months probation. A charge of
expired tag was dismissed.
•Alton Franklin Burns III,
tag light violation, $143 fine. A
charge of violation of limited
driving permit was dismissed.
•Salvador Bustamante, driv
ing while license suspended or
revoked, $833 fine.
•Juan Alfredo Frias, driving
without a license, $703 fine. A
charge of expired driver’s license
was dismissed.
•Wallace Eugene Giddens, dis
orderly conduct and obstruction,
$500 fine and 12 months proba
tion.
•Billy Caleb Hardy, following
too closely, $108 fine.
•Ramon Jose Helguera, driv
ing without a license, $703 fine.
Charges of brake light viola
tion and tire violation were dis
missed.
•Edgar Calvin Hernandez, driv
ing without a license and expired
tag, $600 fine and 12 months
probation. Charges of no proof of
insurance and use of license plate
to conceal identity of vehicle
were dismissed.
•Marion Keith Higginbotham,
failure to maintain lane, $143 fine
and restitution.
•David Lamar Highfield,
deposit account fraud, 12 months
probation.
•Patty Lynn Howard, no proof
of insurance, $400 fine and 12
months probation.
•Tina Michelle Humphries,
violation of mandatory education
law. $300 fine, probation and 72
hours in jail.
•Kenneth Blake Kitchens, open
container violation, $200 fine and
six months probation.
•Michael Roy Leite, stop sign
violation, $143 fine.
•Eddie Lee Lively, criminal
trespass, 90 days probation, $200
fine and restitution.
•John Henry Maxwell, posses
sion of marijuana, $500 fine and
12 months probation.
•Carley Leeann Morris, theft
