Jefferson PD
One charged after ATV crash
One man was charged with public drunkenness after an
ATV accident at the Amazon distribution center on Hog
Mountain Road in Jefferson.
Maurice Antonio Dumas, 37, 2212 Keheley Dr., Decatur,
was arrested.
A second man was still on the ATV when Jefferson Police
Department officers arrived about 11:20 a.m. April 27. He
was bleeding and had an injured left forearm.
EMTs reported he had a compound fracture. He said he
was a passenger in the ATV and the driver flipped it over.
He said he had been drinking alcohol, but did not say when.
He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Dumas denied driving the ATV and declined to take a
breath test and said the officers “could go ahead and arrest
him.”
Officers also gave him a criminal trespass warning for the
address.
MAN ARRESTED FOR POT POSSESSION
One man was charged with possession of less than an
ounce of marijuana after a JPD officer stopped a vehicle
with one woman and two men.
Arrested was John Thomas Clark, 19, 999 Sosebee Road,
Talmo. He admitted the marijuana was his.
All three denied knowing about a pill bottle in the dash
that had blue and orange pills in it. All three were cited for
prescription drugs not in their original container.
The woman was driving the Ford Ranger when it was
stopped for no insurance.
The drugs were found when the track was searched before
it was towed.
ARRESTS
Arrests made by the Jefferson Police Department include:
•Stanley Eugene Smith, 388 Bullsboro Dr., Newnan, DUI
- alcohol.
•Ana Jimenez, 31, 256 Railroad St., Apt. 1. Jefferson,
simple battery. Three employees at Tabo’s said she shoved
one of them and began grabbing and pulling her hair. She
said two of the employees “ganged up on her and were both
yelling and laughing at her.”
•Larry K. Beck, 55, 81 Highway 82, Winder, criminal
trespass.
•Gerald Duane Poole, 49. 30 Baker St., Lavonia. driving
on a suspended license.
•Jameia Rontanisha, 20. 150 Parker Dr., Monroe, held on
a Madison County warrant for probation violation.
•Anita Antionette Wilson, 39. 703 Kendall Court. Mon
roe, held on a Walton County warrant for failure to appear.
•Charles Edward Warren, 57, 620 Holiday Cemetary
Road, Jefferson, driving on a suspended license.
•Margaret Aileen Dzamko, 3618 Ethridge Road, Jeffer
son. failure to maintain lane and DUI-drags-less safe.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the JPD include:
•a couple had a dispute over a number of issues, including
property and money that were the result of a recent breakup.
Both made conflicting claims. Both agreed the man would
get his clothes, tools, toiletries and other small personal
items. The woman got a travel trailer she said belonged to
her.
•a woman and man who are divorced made conflicting
claims about the other. The woman said he drove past her
house twice and the first time he stopped and cussed at her.
She said she believed he was drank. He said he had gotten a
call from his “ex” saying she was going to kill him.
•two men were cited for possession of less than an ounce
of marijuana after a traffic stop on Highway 129 about 3
a.m. April 30. An officer said he saw the two at the Quick
Trip store and notice “the overwhelming smell of burnt
marijuana.” The two left on Concord Road, “overshot the
stop line,” and stopped at the intersection. When the officer
turned on his lights for a stop, the “vehicle kept moving past
multiple empty parking lots.” The officer found a marijuana
roach under the front passenger seat. The two said a woman
who was with them smoked the drag earlier.
•a father and son on Commerce Road reported finding
mail crumpled up and thrown at the entrance of the drive to
their house. The father said they found the mail about 6 p.m.
April 30 when they returned home. He said it was not there
when they left for church about 11 a.m. The papers were
credit card statements from mail the day before. The son
said a blank check that came with the statement was miss
ing. It was a Capitol One credit card and the statement was
from Wells Fargo. A hold was placed on the check.
•a small plastic bag with methamphetamine was left at the
Papa Johns about 11:30 p.m. April 30. The night manager

Harassment reported at
Pendergrass business
Harassment was reported between employees of a Pend
ergrass business last week.
Officers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office were
called to Valentine Industrial Parkway where an employee
reported that a woman who previously made a scene at the
business threatened to return.
The complainant is “close friends” with, and may be in
a relationship with, the suspect’s husband, according to the
incident report.
Both agreed not to contact each other since they wanted
to keep their jobs.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the JCSO in Pendergrass
were:
•violation of temporary protection order and harassment
on Kimberly Lane where a woman suspects her husband,
who she has a no-contact TPO against, called her from an
unlisted number 30 times. Someone also called the Depart
ment of Family and Children Services on the woman. She
suspects it was her husband and his mother.
•hit and ran on John B. Brooks Road where a woman
discovered her vehicle was hit and damaged.
•suspicious person on Village Parkway where a woman
said she saw flashlights behind her house.
said a man between 40 and 50 left it in front of the register
counter. He had not seen the man leave it, but he was the last
customer of the night.
•the owner of Tucker Exteriors reported a Ford flatbed
pickup had been stolen from the business parking lot. He
said the track was left by an employee and another employ
ee had seen it the night of April 29. The theft occurred
between 5:30 p.m. April 29 and 2:30 p.m. April 30.
•an employee at Kroger reported another employee had
shown him obscene material on his phone. He said the other
employee made “uncomfortable conversations” with him
not long after he started working at the store. At least four
times, he made “unwelcome conversation,” including asking
him if he wanted to go to the other man’s house,
•a man said someone “knocked in” his front door about
11 pm. April 27. He got up, but no one was at the door. In
the morning, he noticed someone had sprayed grass killer in
his front yard.
•a man said he noticed a Stihl weedeater was missing from
the side of his house when he went to cut grass. He said the
weedeater had been in some bushes on the side of his house.
•a man complained because his ex-wife was 50 minutes
late with their two daughters. A dispute occurred when they
arrived. The ex-wife said she had called him and told him
the daughters were getting their nails done and would be
late, or he could get them from the nail salon.
•a woman complained at Jefferson Middle School that her
parents were abusing her 12-year-old and 19-year-old sons.
The woman and boys live with her parents. Asked how they
were being abused, she said, “All of it.” The woman was
extremely vague answering questions. Signs of abuse, she
said, were her younger son was missing some underwear
and her older son was disrespectful. The woman admit
ted she used methamphetamine a few days ago. She was
eventually given a criminal trespass warning at the school
administration’s request.
•a woman said she is getting harassing text messages from
her husband. The two separated about a month ago. The
woman printed copies of the text messages. They do not
show threats of illegal behavior or acts.
•a mother said her daughter was having a mental break
down and trying to leave the house. She also said her
daughter threatened to kill herself and tried to hit her son.
An officer watched a video of the two women arguing. He
did not hear the daughter say she wanted to hurt herself. The
daughter said wanted to leave because she was upset but her
mother wouldn’t let her. The mother said she canceled the
insurance on her daughter’s car so she couldn’t drive it. The
daughter said her brother had “messed with her car” so she
couldn’t leave. An officer spoke to the husband who became
irate at the police department. The daughter finally left with
her child. Her boyfriend picked them up.
•a woman said a man said he wanted to kill someone.
An officer talked with a cousin and roommate of the man.
She said he told her the only thing on his mind was killing
someone. She said he had not been getting shots for his med
ication. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
•a man said his son noticed a storage unit that was par
tially open with no one around it at the Lee Street Mini
Warehouses. The lock appeared to have been tampered with
and would no longer close or lock. Nothing inside appeared
to have been disturbed.
•11 wrecks with three injuries were reported. Two involved
deer. In one accident, a deer ran into the front driver’s side
of the car in front of the Kubota plant on McClure Industrial
Drive. The second was on Hog Mountain Road. The driver
said the deer ran in front of his pickup track.
JCSO incidents - Athens
Man thinks hydraulic
fluid caused oily pond
A property owner with a pond said he found two empty
buckets with a hydraulic fluid label on the road by his pond.
The man told officers of the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office that a couple times every year, an oil slick appears on
the top of the pond, but he always believed it was a natural
occurrence.
He called police after seeing the two empty buckets
believing them to have something to do with the oil in the
pond.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office in Athens were:
•MVA on Savage road where a man and a woman fell on
their scooters and received minor injuries.
•welfare check on Tallassee Road where a child, who had
just learned how to unlock and open doors, left her house to
go to the neighbor’s house. The mother scolded the child for
leaving without permission.
•damage to vehicle on Jefferson Road where debris from
a mobile home hit a vehicle, busting fog lights, cracked a
bumper and messed up the paint job. Officers later found
a mobile home and noticed a blown-out tire and a broken
axel.
•found item on Hwy. 330 where the manager of a store
found a syringe in a flower bed in front of the store.
•agency assist on New Kings Bridge Road where a
motorcycle crashed into a ditch. The driver complained
about shoulder pain and was taken by EMS to a hospital.
•verbal dispute on Fuller Road where a woman wanted a
man and his young niece and nephew charged with crimi
nal trespass. The officer told her that the kids couldn’t be
charged because they had permission to be there, but the
man could because he was going from door-to-door telling
people that they were going to be evicted.
•aggressive dog on Fuller Road where a woman com
plained about a neighbor’s dog killing two of her cats.
The dog owner was told by police to keep the dog on her
property.
•burglary, trespass and theft by taking on Ford Road
where a business was broken into and several items were
taken, some were still left on the property. Police were
able to lift finger prints and extra patrol was placed on the
building.
JCSO incidents - Talmo
Trailer nabbed in Talmo
A man said his trailer was stolen last week at a Talmo
location.
Officers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office were
called for reports of theft by taking on Old State Road. A
man said his utility trailer was stolen which contained sal
vage pine boards and miscellaneous tools.
Other incidents reported to the JCSO in Talmo were:
•criminal trespass on Martin Road where a man reported
his lawn mower was damaged. He said it would be a “waste
of time” to use insurance for the fix and decided to repair
it himself.
•verbal dispute on Pendley Road where a man got into an
argument with someone who came onto his property with
out permission. The suspect said another property owner
told him he could go on the property to get scrap parts off
a vehicle.
