DAR VISITS MADISON
The James Pittman Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Commerce, trav
eled to Madison, on April 19, to tour the second oldest home in the historic town. The home is owned by

Summer movie series kicks off May 20 with ‘Sing’

“Sing,” as the first movie
in the summer series on the
Braselton Town Green.
Presented Saturday, May
20, at dusk, the animat
ed family comedy movie
is rated PG and runs 108
minutes.
Movie fans will recog
nize and enjoy the familiar
voices of Matthew McCo-
naughey, Reece Wither
spoon and Seth MacFar-
lane. Sing was nominat
ed for two Golden Globe
awards.
“Its intriguing plot is
set in a world like ours but
entirely inhabited by ani
mals.” according to orga
nizers. “A dapper koala,
Buster Moon, presides
over a once-grand theater
that has fallen on hard
times. He’s an optimist
who loves his theater and
will do anything to pre
serve it. He conjures a
plan to host a singing com
petition where the winner
will receive $100,000, but
the competition becomes
grander than he anticipates
as the finalists’ find their
lives will never be the
same.”
The movie is free to all
who are encouraged to
bring chairs or blankets
and a picnic.

on hand for icy treat pur
chases.

BAND ENTERTAINS
The 2 Lane Highway Band entertained guests at
Braselton’s Beach Bash Party Saturday afternoon.
Antique, artisan festival
planned in Braselton
Organizers of the Braselton Antique and Artisan Fes
tival plan a new show in June, The Art-Tiques Vintage
Market will be June 23-25.
Dealers from all over the metro area and surrounding
states will line the streets of downtown Braselton creating
a true pickers’ market with antiques, repurposed creations
and local art work.
Among the items will be rustics, salvaged, primitives,
old junk, antiques, boutique, vintage, furniture, jewelry,
home decor and farmhouse-themed. New vendors are
welcome.
Show hours include: Friday, June 23, from 12-7 p.m.;
Saturday, June 24. from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, June
25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event will be held rain or shine.
Admission and parking are free. A free shuttle is also
available.
The Braselton Antique and Artisan festival currently
hosts two shows annually in April and October. Organiz
ers created this June event based on customers’ feedback.
The show is located at 115 Harrison Street, Braselton.

Wilkes family reunion set
June 5 at Bethany UMC
The descendants of Aaron Hale Wilkes are invited to a
reunion and lunch on Sunday, June 5.
The reunion will be at Bethany United Methodist
Church on Hwy. 335 approx. 4.5 miles outside Jefferson
in the Brockton community.
Family members are also welcome to attend Bethany.
After the last church service, the group will meet for a
covered dish lunch in the Fellowship Hall.
Attendees are asked to bring food and drinks for your
family. All paper products will be provided.
Wilkes’ father was Moses Osborn Wilkes. His children
were Mary, John. James, Jane, Mildred, Benjamin. Thom
as, Jeff, Bob and George.

JHS joint reunion
planned for June 10
The Jefferson High School classes of 1954 to 1964 will
be holding a joint class reunion at 5 p.m. on June 10 at the
JHS lunchroom.
The price of the meal will be $10 per person.

“We are excited about getting together to renew old and
new relationships.” organizers state. “If you know class
members, call and invited them. We would also like to
extend the invitation to the older graduates of JHS, back
to the 1950s.”
Freedom Festival set June 24
The Jefferson Freedom Festival will be held from 5 p.m.
to 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 24.
The event will feature food, fireworks and live music
from Fly Betty.
This year, additional firework seating will be available
beside the Regions Bank drive-thru on Gordon Street.
Library group to hold
membership drive June 6
The Friends of the Braselton-West Jackson Library will
host its annual membership drive at the Hoschton Depot
on Wednesday, June 6, from 12-2 p.m.
Lisa Wingate will be the special guest. She will be
launching her latest book, “Before We Were Yours.”
Finger goods will be provided.
The depot is located at 4272 Hwy. 53, Hoschton.
