DAR CHAPTER FORMS IN BRASELTON

Braselton Chapter of the DAR was formed recently.
Jacob Braselton DAR chapter formed
A new chapter of the
Daughters of the American
Revolution has organized
in Braselton.
The Jacob Braselton
Chapter of the DAR was
formed Feb. 4 after orga
nizing regent Caroline
Giles Mixon approached
the Georgia State regent
Joyce Ball Batton about
the possibility of creating
a new chapter in an under
served area of Braselton.
Two months later, the
group was formed.
The chapter was orga
nized with the 12-member
requirement. Most were
mothers, daughters, daugh-
ters-in-law, cousins and a
sorority sister of the orga
nizing regent.
The mission was to “cre
ate a new” chapter, not
to minimize an existing
chapter.
“This was a bit daunt
ing and step of faith in
that there were not enough
organizing members living
locally who could make a
functioning board,” orga
nizers state.
In late January, two
meetings were held at
Deaton Creek and the Bra
selton Library and mem
bership increased by eight
DAR members bringing
the total to 38 in the pro
spective member database.
The chapter is named for
Revolutionary War soldier
Jacob Braselton who made
a home for his wife, Han
nah Green, and their chil
dren. Their descendants
have “carved out a com
munity of citizenship that
thrives” in the area.
The group’s objects of
service are: patriotism,
education and historic
preservation.
Those interested in join
ing who are at least 18
years old and think they
may be a descendant of a
patriot of the Revolution
ary War should bring per
sonal information, a copy
of their birth certificate and
vital statistic information
of parents and grandpar
ents to verify eligibility. If
prospective members had a
female relative who was in
the DAR, the group may be
able to connect those links.
The next chapter meeting
is at the Braselton-Stover
Event Center. For infor
mation, contact Mixon at
770-967-4041 or caroline-
mixon @ gmail.com.
