JCSO incidents - Commerce
Commerce house
burglarized, ransacked
A Commerce woman said her house was ransacked and
burglarized last week.
Officers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office were
called to an Old Woods Bridge Road residence on reports
of burglary.
A woman said someone broke into her house and dis
turbed her belongings. Two white gloves were found at the
scene, one on the kitchen counter and the other in a toilet
with a cigarette butt and fecal matter.
The woman doesn't think anything was taken from the
house.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the JCSO in Commerce
were:
•information on Maysville Road where a man showed
officers a video of people who stole from his business.
Officers weren’t able to identity the suspect in the videos.
Some of the stolen items were later sold online.
•assist the Georgia State Patrol with a wreck on 1-85. All
passengers involved in the two-car crash were transported
to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. One was in
critical condition.
•dispute on Nelva Lane where a woman yelled at her
neighbor’s children when they got on her property. She
also reportedly cursed at the adults, although some of the
neighbors said she cursed at the juveniles, too.
•terroristic threats and acts at East Jackson Comprehen
sive High School where a student made threats.
•criminal trespass on Dan Waters Road where a truck
was reportedly doing donuts in a hayfield. Officers didn’t
see a truck in the area and noted the tire tracks in the field
were not fresh.
•damage to property on Hwy. 334 where a man said a
rock flew up off the road and struck his windshield.
•theft by taking on Steve Reynolds Industrial Parkway
where a man said someone stole a U-Haul trailer.
•welfare check on an elderly woman on Groaning Rock
Road. She fell and couldn’t get up. EMS transported her to
Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.
•suspicious activity on Hoods Mill Road where a vehicle
was reported for driving down the road and turning around
multiple times. Officers didn't find the reported vehicle.
•assist the Department of Family and Children Services
on Millside Court where a DFCS worker wanted authori
ties present while they made contact with a juvenile.
•custody dispute on Old Hoods Mill Road where a
woman dropped off her child at her ex-husband’s house
but later decided not to let the child stay. The man tried
to block her from leaving with the child with his vehicle
and she reportedly struck his vehicle before leaving the
scene. He chased her and officers found the two in Mad
ison County. He told officers the woman was under the
influence and he didn’t want her to leave with their child,
who they have joint custody of. Madison County Sheriff’s
Office deputies determined the woman wasn’t under the
influence and advised the man they couldn’t make her turn
over custody, noting that would have to be settled in court.
•fraud on Commerce Road where a woman said some
one scammed her. A company she’d been doing business
with contacted her and said they were going out of busi
ness and needed to issue her a $200 refund. They obtained
remote access on her computer and put $1,200 into her
checking account. Soon after, she noticed $1,000 was
missing from her savings account but it was returned when
she asked about it. The scammer then asked the woman to
return the $1,000 through iTunes gift cards, which she did.
She later learned the scammers never deposited money
into her account, just transferred money from her savings
account to her checking account. After the transaction, her
computer froze.
JCSO incidents - Nicholson
Suicidal man missing
according to friends
The Jackson County Sheriff’s office was called out to
Mulberry Street by a man who wished to be taken to a
hospital.
The man told police that he had a history of hurting him
self and has had suicidal thoughts and that he was worried
about what he might do to himself that day.
The officer agreed to take the man to Piedmont Athens
Regional Medical Center for treatment.
A few days later, friends said that they have lost contact
with the man over the previous 24 hours and were worried
because the hospital told them that he was no longer there.
Police then contacted the man’s mother asking her to
contact Piedmont Athens Regional because they would tell
her if they transported him to a different treatment facility
since she is the next of kin.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the JCSO in Nicholson were:
•theft by taking on Tommy Barnett Road where a man
says he believes either his sister or nephew stole two
Medicare checks from his mailbox and cashed them.
•harassing phone calls at Sawdust Trail where a woman
has been receiving drunk voice mails from a friend of her
late-husband multiple times a day.
•fraud on Hwy. 441 where a man received letters from
Home Depot wanting money for charges on a credit card
he didn’t make.
•theft by taking at Quail Ridge Drive where a woman
claims a dolly was stolen from her property while she
temporarily lived out of state last year.
•disturbance on Jims Lane where a woman complained
about hearing gunshots throughout the afternoon. Officers
told her that it was not illegal to be shooting guns in the
daytime.
•criminal trespass on Sanford Drive where a man says
that a neighbor cut down rose bushes on his property
•EMS assist on Hunters Ridge Road where a man was
passed out in his yard, but still breathing. The man was
taken to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. Ear
lier that day the man admitted to taking Xanax and meth
in the past when he called police about being chased by
a truck and people coming after him from behind his TV
and under his floors.
•dog complaint on Blackthorne Road where a woman
and her son complained about being chased and bitten by
an aggressive dog. The owner of the dog told police that
it’s normally restrained, but it had broken loose that day.
Jefferson PD
Mother, daughter dispute among JPD calls
An argument between a mother and daughter led to
the mother taking a car from the daughter’s work place.
The mother and daughter made complaints to the Jef
ferson Police Department May 5 and 6. The mother said
she had not seen her daughter since May 1, four days
earlier, and went to her work place to get the vehicle.
The daughter said her mother “caused a scene’’ at her
work place.
The daughter said her mother took the vehicle, which
had her paycheck and several of her belongings. The car
belonged to the mother.
She said the daughter left because she did not want to
follow her mother’s rules at home. She said her daughter
left on Monday and had not been back, so she went to
her work place.
The mother said the daughter had driven the vehicle
for two years.
She took the vehicle and tried to hide it. She said her
daughter found it and retrieved it.
ARRESTS
Arrests made by the Jefferson Police Department
recently include:
•Taylor Reid Roland, 25, 151 Old Pendergrass Road,
Jefferson, battery and criminal trespass.
•Joseph Shawn Ledbetter, 36, held on a Hall County
warrant for a probation violation. He also was cited for
possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
•Maria Elena Candelaria, 30, 1700 Jimmy Daniel
Road, Watkinsville, held on a warrant from Clarke
County. She also was cited for driving on a suspended
license, driving with a suspended registration and driv
ing without insurance.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the JPD recently include:
•a husband and wife had an argument and the man said
his wife threatened to harm herself. The woman denied
saying that. Both denied any physical actions. Both said
they had "consumed large quantities of alcohol.’’
•a woman said her cell phone was taken at the Jeffer
son Junction Flea Market. She said she turned her back
from her stroller and it disappeared.
•a woman said her children and another juvenile on
Andrews Court have clashed. She said she does not
worry about the juveniles because they are all 11 or
younger. But she said she does not like the way the
father of the girl juvenile has handled the problem. She
said he has walked into the entry of her house twice
without being welcomed. One time she was in the show
er. The father denied going in the house uninvited.
•a man said his wife refused to let him pick up his son
despite a custody agreement. She said her son did not
want to go with his father. She complained similar things
have happened and the Jefferson Police Department has
not helped.
•a man said a window was broken in his house while
he was at work. Remnants of a Corona beer bottle were
among the debris around the window. Nothing appeared
to be missing. No entry had been made.
•a woman was cited for possession of less than an
ounce of marijuana and a non-functioning headlight
after a traffic stop. An officer said he smelled marijuana
when he made the stop. He saw “bits of suspected mar
ijuana” on the passenger side floor board. The woman
said there “shouldn't be any left because she thought
she had smoked it all.” More marijuana was found in a
cigarette box that was in her left front pocket.
•a man said someone in a Ford left Fields Road and hit
his fence. Damage to the fence was estimated at $2,500.
Several pieces of the vehicle were at the scene, suggest
ing extensive damage.
•a local bank employee said a man called and asked
bank-related questions about a specific customer. She
said he “began breathing heavily when she was speaking
to him to give him answers to his questions.’’ She said
he told her he had “just bought some new lotion.” When
he referred to masturbating, she hung up. He called back
six times in an hour and asked for the same woman.
•a Jefferson High School student said she was threat
ened by a boy at school. He said he was going to hurt
her. She said it was an on-going problem and she had
notified the principal.
•a man reported another man had written vulgar lan
guage on his vehicle. Similar language was found on an
unoccupied building on Washington Street. An officer
said he went to the home of the suspected graffiti-writer
and he believes the man ran out the back of the house.
•a man said he believed he left a debit card at a gas sta
tion and it was found and used twice in Commerce. The
total for the two charges was $112. He canceled the card.
•a woman said her son has been harassed at school and
at the Gordon Street park. He said juvenile boys want
to fight him. She said they do not live at the Pine Street
apartments, where she and her son live.
•11 wrecks with no injuries. One wreck included an
unknown driver who hit a car on Interstate 85, causing it
to hit another vehicle. The unknown driver left the scene.
Commerce PD
Woman lies about name to avoid arrest
Keisha Marie Rollins, 37, 124 New Castle Drive, Alto
was picked up for an outstanding warrant after first lying to
officers about her name. Officers were investigating a verbal
dispute that took place on Ashland Place.
A complainant called the Commerce Police Department
about Rollins and other women hitting her vehicle. All of the
women except Rollins got in their vehicles and left the scene
when the complainant threatened to call police.
Rollins first told officers her name was Heather Cleveland.
The complainant then arrived and revealed the woman’s real
name to police.
There was a warrant out for Rollins for failure to appear
in court.
OTHER ARRESTS
Other arrests made by the CPD were:
•Derreck Lee Harred, 50, 3467 FM Road, 71 E, Dike,
driving under the influence. Officers responded to an acci
dent on Northwood Drive and noticed the smell of alcohol
on Harred’s breath. Harred told police that he had consumed
eight-to-10 beers that day while playing golf. Harred failed a
field sobriety test.
•Steven Kirby Lavender, 53, 96 Oak Hill Drive, driving
under the influence. An officer noticed a truck make a wrong
way, left turn after stopping at a stop sign. During the traffic
stop. Lavender was slow to answer the officer’s questions and
failed a field sobriety test.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the CPD were:
•domestic dispute on State Street where a woman com
plained about being pushed out of a house and having beer
dumped on her head by a man. She was reportedly throwing
things around his house,
•abandonment of dangerous drugs or poison on North
Broad Street where a pill bottle with marijuana inside was
dropped off at Walgreens.
•criminal trespass and damage to property on Arlington
Lane where the back windshield of a woman’s vehicle was
smashed by a rock.
•suicide threat on Crestwood Circle where a woman
attempted to overdose on Xanax.
•found chugs on North Broad Street where a purse with
meth inside was found in the Walgreens parking lot by
employees.
•harassing communication on Highland Estates where
a woman says that her ex-husband and his new girlfriend
threatened to take his kids and attack the woman.
•theft by taking at North Broad Street where a man says
that someone stole $150 and medication from his house.
Maysville PD
Gazebo at City of
Maysville Park vandalized
Officers with the Maysville Police Department were called
out to the park about vandalism around the gazebo.
Profane words were burned into the wood of the gazebo.
The plastic strap around a potted plant had also been burned.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the Maysville Police Depart
ment were:
•recovered property on Chandler Cemetery Road where
a man dropped off two television sets against a fence on the
side of the road.
•damaged property on Homer Street where a driver’s truck
was hit by a rock thrown by a lawnmower.
•recovered property at City of Maysville Park where an
officer found a wallet with no money or debit cards, but it
did have a license.
•runaway juvenile on Andy Court where a middle school
aged girl ran away from home to a friend’s house after arguing
with her mother about school attendance.
•information on Medical Center Drive where a patient at
Northridge Medical Center took her IVs out and threw them
at a nurse.
•theft by taking on Ridgeway Road where a man had a cell
phone shipped to him but it was stolen off of his front porch. It
was later located in an abandoned vehicle in Madison County.
•damage to property on Maysville Road where the brakes
of a man’s vehicle stopped working causing him to hit a gen
erator and a parked vehicle.
•suicide attempt on Magnolia Place where a young girl in
foster care attempted to overdose on medications.
•criminal trespass on Lakeview Drive where kids were on
the roof of a church attempting stunts.
•theft by taking on South Broad Street where a man noticed
one of his bicycles was stolen. When confronted, the perpe
trator returned the bike.

City of Hoschton
REQUEST FOR BIDS
The City of Hoschton will be taking sealed
bids on the construction of a free standing
single restroom with a sink and toilet. The
roof will be shingled and the siding will be
HardiePlank. The approximate size will
be 5X7. The construction will be locat
ed next to the stage area at City Hall. For
