JCSO arrests
Maysville man
A Maysville man was arrested last week after officers found
him asleep in a ditch.
Darrell Own Humphries, 36, 475 Hillside Lane, Maysville,
faces charges of public drunkenness. Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office deputies found Humphries asleep in a ditch along Hick
ory Way in Maysville.
He said he had a couple of beers and some Xanax and was
“sleeping it off."
The week before, officers gave Humphries a courtesy escort
and he had a full bottle of Xanax (around 80 pills). When offi
cers found him in the ditch, only two pills remained.
EMS arrived on scene and said his vitals were fine.
He was arrested and officers asked him if he had concealed
anything on his body. Humphries had wadded up $1,600 in
cash and hid it in his anus.
He said he kept his money there so no one would steal it or
rob him.
MAN ASSAULTS PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND
A Nicholson man was arrested last week after he allegedly
assaulted a woman who is five months pregnant.
Horacio Zarco Araujo, 41,141 Steeple Chase Road, Nichol
son, faces charges of battery-Family Violence Act (FVA) and
criminal trespass.
Araujo called the JCSO, saying his pregnant girlfriend was
holding a knife on him. He had red marks on his neck possibly
caused by a shirt being pulled. His girlfriend said she was using
the knife to get a door open.
Araujo allegedly held the woman down by her neck. She had
red marks on her wrist and back of the neck.
The two reportedly began arguing because the woman was
lying on the bed talking on the phone to her mother. Araujo
allegedly threw the woman’s phone and broke it.
Several children were present, but none witnessed the alter
cation.
Araujo told officers his girlfriend is depressed and doesn't
want to do anything with him.
Officers noted the woman doesn’t speak English and has no
family or friends in the area. She also doesn’t have a driver’s
license or any money, which officers suspect may have led to
her feeling isolated.
Araujo was arrested and his children were picked up by their
mother.
NICHOLSON MAN MAKES
THREATS ON COMPUTER
A Nicholson man was arrested last week after threatening to
kill someone in a Facebook message.
Christopher Edward Hurst, 30,140 Blackthome Road, Nich
olson, faces charges of terroristic threats and acts via computer.
Hurst allegedly sent a Facebook message to his wife’s boy
friend saying, “I'm going to kill (my wife)’’ and "(My wife’s)
going to end up dead.”
The couple still lives together, but the woman said she plans
to divorce him. Hurst allegedly became upset because his wife
is seeing someone else.
Hurst also reportedly had an “outburst” after his child wanted
to eat pizza for breakfast. He allegedly threw eggs on the floor,
but said the child was in the other room during the incident.
HOSCHTON MAN ARRESTED AFTER
CRASHING, LEAVING SCENE
A Hoschton man was arrested last week after he crashed into
a vehicle and fled.
Samuel Dykes Sheffield, 26, 362 Prestwick Drive, Hoschton,
faces charges of criminal damage to property, hit and run and
public drunkenness.
Sheffield reportedly struck a Ford Mustang on Prestwick
Drive and fled the scene. Officers later found him in the woods,
“hanging out.”
He told them his truck had been stolen and said he went into
the woods because he was nervous about police officers.
“Y’all been coming for us for s**t we didn’t do,” he report
edly said. “I know how this goes.”
A witness later told officers Sheffield was the one driving
the vehicle.
He was arrested, but resisted being placed in handcuffs. Offi
cers were eventually able to secure him and Sheffield pulled
them to the patrol car.
He reportedly called them, "g***** n fa***ts.” When an
officer told him to watch his head when entering the patrol car,
he allegedly said, “F**k you! Watch your head, b***h” before
kicking the door twice.
MAN ARRESTED AFTER PAYING
FOR TRUCK WITH BAD CHECK
A Nicholson man was recently arrested after paying for a
vehicle with bad checks.
Kevin Shane Walker, 41, 359 James Maxwell Road, Nichol
son, faces charges of felony deposit account fraud for $1,500 or
more in bad checks, hold for Clarke County on charges of theft
by taking and felony theft by deception.
Walker reportedly purchased a vehicle from a dealership for
$2,500, but the check bounced. Employees at the dealership
tried to contact him, but weren't able to get in touch with
Walker.
Officers found the truck, along with Walker. He admitted to
using a check, but denied signing it, claiming someone must
have forged it.
