COMMERCE - Robert Rich
ard Allen, 63, died Thursday, June
1, 2017, at his residence.
Mr. Allen was born in Germany,
the son of the late Elliot and Olive
Beacon Allen. He was a poultry
farmer, a member of the Homer
Masonic Lodge, and a member of
the Shriners.
Survivors include his wife,
Jackie Laveme Standridge Allen;
daughter, Shannon Jackson
(Heath), Jefferson; son, Derrick
Allen (Charity), Commerce; broth
er, Ron Allen (Jane), Gainesville;
sisters, Ruth Collins (Vernon),
Augusta, and Carol Clark (Jim),
Groveland, Fla.; grandchildren,

Services were held Sunday, June
4 from the Chapel of Little-Ward
Funeral Home with the Rev. Sher

Baird, 68, died Monday, May 29,
2017, at Emory University Hos
pital.
Mrs. Baird was bom in Com
merce, the daughter of the late
Carl Parks Faulkner and Dorthy
Jean Ayers Hill. Mrs. Baird was
a member of Redeemed Baptist
Church and was retired from the
University of Georgia. She was
preceded in death by her sisters,
Patricia Clinton and Regina Hill.
Survivors include her husband,
Phillip Baird, Jefferson; daughters,
Sharon Sanders (Jason), Gillsville,
and Karen Evans (Ken), Maysville;
son, Bryan Baird (Michelle), Dex
ter; sisters, Jennifer Wright, Cony
ers, Marcia Sullivan, Laurenburg,
N.C. and Christy Phelps, Maysville;
brothers, Obie Faulkner, Maysville,
and Bill Hill, McDonough; and
nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Thursday, June 1, at Redeemed
Baptist Church with the Rev. Phil
Parks officiating. Interment was in
Maxwell Baird Cemetery.

WINDER - Dale Eugene Ban
ner, 71, passed away, Monday, May
29, 2017.
He was of the Christian denomi
nation. Dale retired as an equip
ment operator for Richland Creek
Landfill. He loved children and
was Santa Clause for 17 years. He
was preceded in death by his par
ents, James “Buck” and Neva Allen
Banner; a daughter, Gina D’Lyn
Banner; a brother, Bob Banner; and
two sisters, Shirley Anderson and
Barbara Borshel.
Survivors include his loving
wife of 53 years, Vi “Mrs. Clause”
Banner, Winder; a son, Brad Ban
ner, Watford, N.D.; four brothers,
Jim Banner, Lawrenceville, and
Rick Banner, Milner, Dan Ban
ner, Iowa Falls, and Dean Banner,
Alden, Iowa; three sisters, Donna
Banner, Iowa Falls, Cindy Rum-
bly, Ottumwa, Iowa, and Carolyn
Whipple, Ackley, Iowa; and two
grandchildren, William Banner and
Samantha Banner, Florida.

Jeune Wilson Blackmon, 82,
passed away Saturday, May 27,
2017, at Southern Pines Assisted
Living.
Born in Commerce, she was the
daughter of the late W.B. (Dub) and
Golden Wilson.

ville, Ala., Ms.
Blackmon was
the past owner
of Alabama

pany, as well
as working
numerous years
as a purchasing
agent, and in
retail sales.
Survivors include a son, Mike

grandchildren, Holly and Will
Weber, Huntsville; brother, Steve
Wilson (Trell), Commerce; and
nephews, Blake and Adam Wilson.
And a very special thank you to
a fine lady, her personal caregiver,
Lynda Beck. Lynda made Mom’s
final years a joy.

Mr. Blair was born in Tiger, the

Crump Blair. He was a member of

he served as a deacon. Mr. Blair
was retired
from the United
States Navy. He
was preceded
in death by his
first wife, Delo-
rise Stephens Blair; and a son,
Rodney Blair.
Survivors include his wife,

WATKINSVILLE - O. Grady
Cooper, 93, died Sunday, June 4,
2017.
A native of Macon, he was the
son of the late O.G. Cooper and
Audrey S. Cooper of Macon, and
the husband of the late Carol B.
Cooper of Watkinsville. Mr. Coo
per had a long and distinguished
career in radio broadcasting having
been associated with radio stations
in Macon, Cordele, and Valdosta.
In 1957 Mr. Cooper was
involved in the building of WJJC
Radio in Commerce and later
became owner of the station. He
retired in 1994. During his years
in radio, Mr. Cooper served on the
board of directors of the Georgia
Association of Broadcasters. While
in Commerce he served as presi
dent of the Lions Club, Chamber of
Commerce, and was active in other
civic and church organizations.
Mr. Cooper was a deacon and
member of Beech Haven Baptist
Church, a member of the Fellow
ship Class, and a member of the
Mall Walkers at Georgia Square.
Among his hobbies, Mr. Cooper
loved music as he was a musi
cian, being a drummer. In his early
years, he was a member of mili
tary bands and orchestras. His vast
library consists of religious, gos
pel, and big band recordings.
Survivors include three daugh
ters and sons-in-law. Nancy and
Jimmy Calamia, Kathy and John
Wolfe, and Rebecca Pearson and
Kenneth Lord, all of Watkinsville;
Ten grandchildren; and eight great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, June 7, at Lord and
Stephens West Chapel with Dr.
Stewart Simms and the Rev. John
Walker officiating. Interment was
at Oconee Memorial Park.

She was of the Baptist denomi
nation. Helene retired from John
son Lumber Company as a book
keeper. She was preceded in death
by her parents, Homer Patton and
Velma Ellen Smith Wilson; and a
brother, Charles Fredric Wilson.

Dudley Crow
TALLAHASSEE, FL - Dudley
Alan Crow, 46, passed away on
Wednesday, May 31, 2017.
Mr. Crowe was the only child
and devoted son of Billy Junior
Crowe and Nora June Allen Crowe
of Homer, Ga. Born on March
27, 1971, in Gainesville, he was
raised in the Atlanta suburb of
Stone Mountain. During his high
school years, he was an active
youth member at Ingleside Presby
terian Church. Mr. Crowe gradu
ated from Georgia State University
with a Bachelor of Science degree
and obtained his Master of Divinity
degree graduating from Reformed
Theological Seminary in Orlando,
Fla.
A fourteen-year resident of Tal
lahassee, Fla., he relished in wear
ing, both the University of Georgia
and Florida State Seminoles sports
apparel. He was a dedicated fan
of collegiate football and basket
ball and an avid weekend golfer.
He spent years of devoted time
supporting his son in basketball
activities and his daughter with her
dance and equestrian events. His
personal passions were always in
reading and in drawing/sketching.
He had a rare and excellent artistic
talent that will always be cherished
by those close to him. Mr. Crowe
was a committed believer in Jesus
Christ and was a member of Four
Oaks Church, Tallahassee, Fla.
He leaves his loving wife of
almost 20 years, Jacqueline Barr
Crowe; and two teenage children,
Benjamin William Crowe and
Chaelee Caroline Crowe, Tallahas
see, Fla.

Mrs. Golden was bom in Atal-

Jack Robert and Hazel Scarbough
Kilgore. She was a member of
Indian Creek Baptist Church and
retired from Norfolk Southern
Railroad. Mrs. Golden was pre
ceded in death by her husband,
Walter Farrel Golden.

Thelma Mae Griffin
LULA - Thelma Mae Hill Grif
fin, 79, passed away on Thursday,
June 1, 2017, at Northeast Georgia
Medical Center.
Born in Banks County on Sep
tember 3, 1937, she was the daugh
ter of the late Hoke, Sr. and Ludie
Clark Hill. Mrs. Griffin was a
homemaker who retired from Pot
ter and Brumfield and was former
ly a self-employed drape designer.
She enjoyed spending time with
her family, especially her grand
children and great-grandchildren.
Many times this included shopping
trips and a good meal at a local
restaurant. Most importantly how
ever, Mrs. Griffin loved her Lord
and demonstrated that by her godly
lifestyle and her faithful service to
Him. She was a longtime member
and former Sunday School teacher
at Antioch Holiness Church. She
was preceded in death by her hus
band, Dan B. Griffin; sisters, Janie
Delgado, Ruth Faulkner and Ruby
Massey; and brothers, Hoke, Jr.,
Amos, Winston, Carlton, James,
Oliver and Ceo Hill.
Survivors include son and
daughter-in-law, Carroll and Kim
Griffin, Lula; grandchildren and
spouses, Ashley and Eric Brown
and Megan and Jonathan Com, all
of Lula, Cary and Ashley Griffin,

60 years. Mrs. Hardigree enjoyed

early age.

granddaughter, Kahlia Usher; two
sisters, Linda Rakestraw and her
husband Johnny, Adrian Usher;
brother, Ernest Timothy Usher;
and a devoted uncle in the home,

taught English at her high school
alma mater and worked for many
years as a caseworker supervisor
for the Department of Family and
Children Services. Mrs. Wood was
preceded in death by her husband,
Otis Lyndal Wood; and her parents,
Allen Lafayette Venable Sr., Sadie
Mason Venable, and Mary Alice
McDonald Venable.
Survivors include her children,

Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. The
visitation will be held on Wednes
day, June 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at
Evans Funeral home.

Mrs. Cronic was an active member
of the White Plains Baptist Church
and had worked at the Norcross
Tag Company in Jefferson. She
was preceded in death by her hus
band, Terry Thomas Cronic; broth
ers, William Stepp, Odis “Pete”
Stepp; and sister, Lorene Staton.
Survivors include the best son
ever, Tom Cronic, Hoschton; sis
ters, Geneva Stepp, Hoschton, and
Jeanette Ledford, Talmo; brothers,
Ralph Stepp and Herman Stepp,
both of Hoschton; five nieces, Starr
Gaines, Tammy Norris, Libby Nel
son, Tootsie Fulton and her hus
band Larry, Frances Staton; aunt,
Lottie Skelton, Jefferson; and
numerous cousins and other family
members that were deeply loved
by Jenny.
Funeral services will be held on
Thursday, June 8, at 3 p.m. in the
Chapel of Evans Funeral Home
with the Revs. Cary Pittman and
Kevin Page officiating. The burial
will follow in the White Plains
Baptist Church Cemetery. The visi
tation will be held on Wednesday,
June 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Evans

James Attaway
James Horace Attaway, 81,
went to be with his Lord on Sat
urday, June
3, 2017. He
courageously
fought to live
until the very
end.
James was
born Decem
ber 30, 1935,
in Hoschton,
Ga., the son
of Hoyt and
Bella Att
away. He
was the last of four siblings and
his father died when he was only
two months old. He graduated
from Jackson County High School,
enlisted in the Air Force at age 19
and was honorably discharged after
27 years.
While stationed in the UK, he
met and married his beloved wife,
Jenny Ormonde of South Shields,
England on November 7, 1964.
He served in Vietnam and was
awarded numerous medals includ
ing the Bronze Star. James earned
the rank of Senior Master Sergeant
and upon retirement from the Air
Force, went to work in computer
operations at Tinker AFB, Okla. in
1983. He retired from Tinker on
October 1, 2003.
James graduated with an associ
ate degree from the Community
College of the Air Force, Rose
Junior College of Oklahoma City,
Okla., and the City Colleges of
Chicago. James loved his Scottie
dogs (MacTavish (dec.), MacDou-
gal (dec.) and McDuff), football
(Georgia Bulldogs and SEC), and
the mountains. He enjoyed his
church, growing roses, the stock
market and sluicing for gemstones.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, Jenny Attaway; his parents;
two sisters; one brother; and his
son, John Clarke.
Survivors include his daugh
ter, Jane Cole, Fort Worth; grand
daughters, Karla Merrick, Fort
Worth, and Jennifer Herrera, Rock
wall; five great-grandchildren; one
great-great-granddaughter; and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held
at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 11,
at Fairpark Baptist Church, Fort
Worth, Texas. Interment will be
beside his wife in Spruce Pine
Memorial Park, Spruce Pine, N.C.
at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations
may be given to the Disabled
American Veterans.
