‘Angel’ a regular
at nursing home
There is an angel who
walks the halls of Hill
Haven Nurs
ing Home. I’ve
watched her
over the last
couple of years,
but after talking
with her. I'm
convinced she's
a God send to
the residents and
family members.
I used to visit
my family more
than I do now,
but one thing remains con
stant. I always run into our
angel. I’ve known this lady
for years, so we always
have a conversation. I was
aware that she knew my
sister-in-law. Jessica, and
my father-in-law, Robert
when they first arrived. I
caught her in casual con
versations with them, but
it’s not only them. She is
full of encouragement to
everyone she greets.
The extent of their
friendship became ever so
apparent to me this past
weekend as we celebrated
Jessica’s birthday. This is
not the first year Jessica
invited our angel to the
party. Jessica invited her
well in advance, and as
usual, our angel was there.
We celebrated in the day
room and other residents
rolled in and out at times.
No matter who came
through the doorway she
knew each one by name
and was sure to tell me
a bit about each of them.
She knows them; she cares
for them, and she encour
ages them. Their interac
tion is priceless as they
chat about daily events we
all take for granted. She
makes each of them feel
special. I know by the way
they light up during casual
conversation.
I’ll admit I feel a lit
tle guilty because I'm not
a regular, but our angel,
helped to relieve my guilt
during our conversation.
There is one thing I know
for sure. She is in and
out of the facility all of
the time. Yes.
she has a fami
ly member who
lives there, but
her involvement
goes so much
further.
So many peo
ple will never
know the joy
she has given to
so many at the
center. She will
never know how
much encouragement and
relief that she gives friends
and family who try to jug
gle this thing called life.
A “thank you,” and “I
appreciate you.” seemed
to fall so short as I tried
to express my gratitude.
Then I begin to think of the
big God we serve. I know
He will bless her beyond
measure. I’d like to go on
record asking God to bless
this lady more than she
could ever imagine.
I’ve went on and on
about this person, and I’ve
yet to give her name. She is
a humble lady, and I doubt
she knows the impact she
is making for the king
dom. I do know that she
would not want any praise
or fame for doing what
comes to her so naturally.
Matthew 6:3-4 sums
our angel up perfectly.
“But when you give to the
needy, do not let your left
hand know what your right
hand is doing, so that your
giving may be in secret.
Then your Father, who
sees what is done in secret,
will reward you.”
I am so thankful for
people who constantly
go about the work of the
Father because they love
Him and they love others.
I am so excited for the
reward that’s sure to come
to our special angel.

ville is pastor at New
Beginnings Ministry. She
