Army General stationed in Afghanistan on an online dating site.
He asked if he could send her some packages to hold onto until

were held up at the U.S. border in Texas. The email demanded
money or the "feds’’ would investigate and take action against
her. The woman sent a money gram of $4,000 to the suspect
who continued to demand more money. She blocked the man’s

what courts are for,” and “I have a great lawyer.’’ Officers again

Two charged after assault at store
A man and woman were charged
with aggravated assault and terroristic
threats after they attacked another man
and woman at a local convenience store.
Arrested were George Thomas Neese,
52, 437 Old Pendergrass Road, Apt. 4,
Jefferson, and Carmen Marie Gary, 48,
86 Heritage Ave., Jefferson.
It was the second call in a week at
the same store involving Neese and the
man.
The two are accused of assaulting the
man and woman at the store May 26. A
Jefferson police officer was watching
the store for another man who has felo
ny warrants against him. He saw Neese
and Gary drive into the parking lot and
enter the store.
The man who was assaulted came out
of the store, and Neese “attempted to
hit” him. The man went around the store
and did not come back.
Neese and Gary went toward the
woman, yelling at her. Gary had a metal
flashlight and Neese had a knife.
The woman said the two came in the
store, yelling at the man about money.
Neese later said the man “scammed”
Gary out of $75.
She said she got in between the peo
ple and told them to stop.
When the argument moved outside,
the woman reported Gary said she was
going to kill her. She said Neese got the
knife and said he would kill her if she
hit Gary.
Witnesses corroborated the woman’s
account of the incident.
During the arrest, Neese complained
of chest pains and an ambulance was
called. His vital signs were good, but he
was taken to Piedmont Athens Regional
Medical Center at his request.
Neese turned himself in after he
called the sheriff’s office and asked if he
had a warrant against him. He said he
had been taken to the hospital.
The first call was May 22. Neese
made the complaint, saying the man
pushed him.
Gary also was at the store and also
argued with the man about the money
she said he owed Neese.
Gary said the man grabbed Neese’s
cane. Neese said the two men were
“within inches” when the man shoved
Neese and then grabbed his cane.
MAN ARRESTED AFTER
FIGHT WITH WIFE
A Jefferson man was arrested on a
warrant for a parole violation after his
wife and he had an argument that she
said resulted in him tackling her.
John Wade Stringer, 45, 265 I W
Davis Road, Jefferson, was charged.
Stringer said the dispute was verbal,
not physical.
He said he had been sleeping in his
truck for a week because they were
fighting.
He went to the house to talk to his
wife and they began arguing again. He
said it “became heated” and he left.
His wife said he had left home a few
weeks ago.
The night before they argued and she
made him leave.
He slept in the truck and woke her up
by kicking the front door.
His wife said they started arguing
again because he would not leave. He
“got in her face” and she pushed him.
Stringer then tackled her. The two
separated and he left.
CAR WINDOWS SMASHED
Two cars were reported with windows
smashed on the driver’s side rear win
dow at Pine Street Apartments.
The damage was done May 27-28.
A woman said someone smashed the
window in her Ford Taurus the night
of May 27. Nothing was missing from
the car. She said she did not hear any
loud noises during the night. It appeared
someone “smashed it with an object in
(his) hand.”
A man said the window on his wife’s
minivan, a Dodge Caravan, was busted
between 6:30 and 9:11 a.m. May 28.
Again, nothing was taken.
It appeared the damage was done by
being “struck by a small projectile, such
as a BB or a pellet.’’
The two vehicles were parked close
by. The Taurus was behind the minivan.
WOMEN COMPLAIN
ABOUT CAR DEALER
Two women said they bought cars
from Jivani Motors, but never got the
paperwork so they cannot get permanent
tags.
Both said they tried repeatedly to get
in touch with the Jivani brothers and
could not.
A woman said she bought a Kia Forte
from Jivani Motor Works and put $2,700
down. She paid a fee of $805 for the tag.
She said the temporary tag expired and
she can’t get a permanent tag because
the paperwork has not been submitted.
The car dealer is out of business. She
said she sent the payment to an account
“associated with Jivani’s email address”
and it was deposited in his bank.
The second woman said she bought a
Ford pickup and paid $345 in ad valor
em tax the same day at the car lot.
She was told the car dealers would
mail the title to the tag office in Madison
County, where she lives.
She said the title had not been received
several months later.
An officer heard one call she made
to the Jivani brothers, and it went to a
voice mail.
