JCSO incidents - Jefferson
Woman has different details of fight with boyfriend
A woman on Martin Lane said her
boyfriend strangled her and took her
Dodge Caliber and a .38 pistol.
She told deputies different stories, first
saying he got mad because he “must have
seen something he didn’t like" on her
phone and pushed her down and stran
gling her until she passed out.
She said she got away from him
because she scratched his face with her
nails while he was choking her.
She later admitted he might have seen
information about another man on her
phone. She said the man lived in Statham.
In her last statement to deputies, she
said her boyfriend told her if “he can’t
have her that nobody can.’’ She also said
he used her bank card to get $123, “caus
ing her account to be negative $29.”
MAN SAYS WOMAN NOT
‘WORTH DEALING WITH’
A man was reported walking down
the middle of Old Pendergrass Road at
11 p.m.
He said he moved here with a woman.
She helped him buy a truck and he was
doing odd jobs around her house to pay
her back.
He decided the truck was not "worth
dealing with the female” so he decided
to go back to Florida.
The woman showed up and the man
returned to the house with her.
‘BAG’ OF MONEY COULD
BE LINKED TO DRUGS,
WOMAN SAYS
A woman said her husband and she
had bought an Econoline van and sup
posedly a “bag of money” was attached
to the underside.
A deputy met with her husband and he
said he had not found anything attached
to the van.
He said they bought the van from a
Gainesville woman who told them it
belonged to her uncle.
She said the package was supposed
to have money and personal documents
belonging to her uncle, who was in
prison.
The woman who called said the pack
age might contain illegal drugs or money
associated with drugs.
Nothing was found attached to the van.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents in the Jefferson area
reported to the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office recently include:
•a man reported his father left home
about 10 a.m. May 23 and did not answer
multiple phone calls to his number. The
next day he learned his father was in the
Walton County jail for DUI. He said
his father does not drink and believed
someone drugged his father. The family
took him for medical care in Jefferson
and then to Piedmont Athens Regional
Medical Center, where a type of drug
was found in his blood. The father’s debit
card had three charges on it, and the fam
ily does not know who made them.
•a man said exterior storage doors
on his and his son-in-law’s RVs were
opened. He said items were taken out and
set on the ground, but nothing appeared
to be missing. The RVs were parked at
a business on Dry Pond Road. The man
said video of the incident showed a vehi
cle pulling onto the property between
9 and 9:30 p.m. May 23. Two men got
out and began going through the RVs. A
deputy reviewed some of the video but
could not identify the make and model of
the vehicle or the tag number.
•an officer in the Jackson County jail
found that a woman inmate had attempt
ed to wrap her sports bra around her
neck. The bra was removed and the
inmate was place in the padded cell
under special observation.
•a woman said she had a Walmart
credit card she opened about Christmas.
She said she received a bill of $611 from
the store for an Apple iPad. She said she
had not purchased the item. She called
the store and a Walmart employee told
her the iPad was "diverted from her
address” to one in South Carolina.
•a grandmother said she had been
caring for her 5-year-old grandson after
his father dropped him off. The boy’s
mother had been arrested. The father
said he was coming to pick up the boy,
but the grandmother said she did not
want to relinquish the boy. She said her
son-in-law's “parenting skills are lacking
and she shared her disgust for the child’s
father.” The father and her daughter are
married and no incidents have occurred
or court orders been issued. She said it
is a "personal issue” between her son-in-
law and her.
•a woman on Old Indian Trail Road
said she and another woman heard “what
sounded like six BBs hit the roof' of the
house. While calling 911, she said she
heard two more. She did not see anyone
outside. A deputy did not find any dam
age that appeared to be bullet holes.
•a man said someone "went down
Johnson Mill Road dumping trash and
debris” in the road. A deputy removed
several bags of trash, boxes and mattress
in the road. Several items of mail includ
ed a name and address. Code enforce
ment was notified.
•a man said he dropped a gun as
he was moving from Whitney Road in
Jefferson. The gun was picked up by
another man and put under the seat of the
car they were in. The man later received
a call from a third man who said he had
bought the gun from the second man and
then sold it to “some guy in Athens.”
•a deputy saw a BMW parked and
idling at an automotive business on High
way 124. It was not occupied. The busi
ness had other parked vehicles for sale
on the property. A gate was unlocked and
open. Attempts to reach someone with
the business were not successful. The
gate was locked and the car turned off.
•a woman said she saw a man run
through her yard on Nathaniel Drive,
She said she didn't recognize the man,
only that he had on a white shirt and
beige shorts.
•a man on Brockton Road said he saw
a man with a flashlight looking into his
van. The man said he was looking for
a ride. The first man called 911 and the
man in the yard ran off toward Jefferson.
•a man said he saw two men on land
used for recreational purposes but when
he went to confront them, they ran. He
said he has had problems with poachers
and with people who live on Oliver Cir
cle. He also said he would move chain
saws and other items in the shop on the
land to his house on B Whitfield Road.
The man said he would request help from
the Department of Natural Resources.
•a man in Traditions subdivision said
his wife, he and their son were walking in
the neighborhood when they were almost
hit by a Ford Edge driving “very fast.”
He said they heard a “honking noise that
sounded like a train” just before they saw
the vehicles. Later he said they heard the
“train sound again” and saw the white
truck come back and pass another vehi
cle. Neighbors told him the owners of
the vehicles live on Shady Creek Court.
Juveniles were in the Ford truck, neigh
bors told him, and the occupants of the
white truck were their parents.
•a man said he was leaving a woman
on Hunters Run after an argument. He
said he had lived there a couple of
months. The woman said he had “never
lived with her” but has stayed with her
off and on for a couple of months.
He said the woman came home from
work “intoxicated and belligerent.” She
accused him of being lazy, not helping
with household chores and not applying
for jobs online. He said they argued and
she punched him in the face. She said it
was not physical, but he “approached her
aggressively and got in her face yelling.”
The man was in the drive with a bag of
clothing when a deputy arrived. Both
said they would split up.
•an off-duty deputy reported a fight
between a man and woman next door to
him. The man lives next to the deputy.
The woman said she came over to give
the man money. He became upset think
ing she was lying about having to work
the next day. He tried to take her phone
and they began to fight "on the ground.”
The man said the woman tried to take
his phone and they fought. The man was
“very vague to why they were fighting.”
•a woman said her finance had moved
out but came back to the house and took
a window air conditioning unit and their
Boxer dog. The house was being remod
eled and she said he “moved a bunch of
stuff and left the residence a mess.”
•a man on Old Winder-Jefferson High
way said someone was shooting and
a bullet hit the side of the bam he was
working in. He said no damage was
done but he could hear it hit. A deputy
saw two men in the area shooting. He
told them they should be shooting at an
embankment.
•a man on Old Kings Bridge Road
blocked a drive. He said it is a private
drive and the owners gave him permis
sion to close one end to grade and fix it.
He said he was worried someone would
min his water line by driving over it. He
said he would go to court to resolve the
issue.
•a store manager at Tanger Outlet
Mall said two women were in the store.
While she was paying attention to one
of them, the other stole two dresses, she
said. The dresses cost $140. She also said
she believes the woman may have taken
other items.
•a woman being booked into the coun
ty jail said she wanted her life to be
over She was put in a padded cell and
placed on 15-minute observation. She
was placed in a suicide smock. About
30 minutes later, she was trying to choke
herself with the smock. She continued to
say she wanted to kill herself and shouted
obscenities at officers. About 6:30 p.m.,
she would not quit kicking the door and
officers decided to restrain her. As they
tried to do so, she hit one officer in the
face. She was put in a WRAP restraint
and told it would be removed when
she calmed down. About 7:35 p.m., the
restraint was removed.
•a woman said a neighbor on Brooks
Village Drive had been having parties
and using the subdivision pool. Beer
cans were left laying “all around the
front yard.” She also said the neighbor’s
grandparents are out of town. The neigh
bor said she did have a party about 9:30
p.m. and asked everyone to leave about
midnight after a deputy came by.
•a man said a woman who lives with
him “was upset and yelling” at him
when he came home with his son. He
said he avoided her but she came through
the house and grabbed his phone. She
accused him of cheating on her. He said
he got his phone back and told her she
needed to leave. Both said they would
call the cops. He said she left the house
when he called 911.
•a man said someone took his New
Holland LS 180 skid steer from a con
struction site and later brought it back.
He said the person who took it lived in
the same subdivision. Tracks led from
the loader through the woods to another
house where work had been done in the
backyard. The man’s nephew found the
loader missing. The neighbor admitted
taking the loader, but said he filled the
tank with diesel fuel before returning it.
JCSO incidents - Maysville
Mother, daughter argue over money in Maysville
A mother said she had an argument
with her daughter, who lives at a house
her mother owns with her boyfriend.
The mother said she went to the house
and the window and the lock on the shed
were busted.
She said she believes her daughter
caused the damage "to get back at her.”
Another man said the daughter told him
she broke the window.
The mother said she manages her
daughter’s disability check and her boy
friend convinced her daughter she was
taking some of the check.
That led to the argument and the
daughter said she would move out.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents in the Maysville area
reported to the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office recently include:
•a woman said she was afraid her hus
band was going to hurt her, but later said
she has panic attacks and was sorry for
calling. She said her husband had been
drinking and wanted to drive. She said
he “was acting aggressive.” The dispute
was not physical. He said there were no
problems and he was not going to drive.
•a man reported he put several checks
to pay bills in his mailbox. He received
a notice saying he was behind on his
payments and the checks had not been
cashed. The man said he believed his son
took the checks to be “spiteful.”
•a woman said a neighbor’s dogs killed
one of her chickens. The neighbor said he
“has been trying to keep them chained”
and he would take responsibility for
damages.

City of Commerce
NOTICE OF
BUDGET ADOPTION
The Fiscal Year 2018 budget will be con
sidered for approval and a budget res
olution adopted on Monday, June 19th,
2017 at 6:00 PM. The meeting will take
place in the "Commerce Room" of the
Commerce Civic Center located at 110
State Street, Commerce, Georgia 30529.
JCSO - Pendergrass, Talmo
Wife kicks in bathroom
door, points gun at husband
A Pendergrass woman allegedly threatened her husband
with a gun last week on Mountain Creek Drive.
Officers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office were
called to the Pendergrass residence on reports of someone
pointing a gun at another person.
The complainant said his wife kicked in the bathroom door
while he was showering and pointed a gun at him. She report
edly said she was going to kill him and demanded he get his
belongings and leave.
He grabbed some shorts and ran out of the house after
warning his mother-in-law.
He suspects his wife may have been under the influence
of something.
No witnesses saw the incident, but the complainant’s moth-
er-in-law got a text from the suspect saying, “Keep the boy
down there when his piece of s**t Christian father gets home
not going be what a child needs to see.”
Officers advised the man on how to get a temporary pro
tection order. They told him to call 9-1-1 again if the suspect
returned to the residence and caused a disturbance.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the JCSO in Pendergrass were:
•computer hacked on Valley Way where a woman’s PayPal
and eBay accounts were hacked. Someone in Jesup appar
ently bought $1,100 worth of merchandise using the com
plainant’s information.
•identity theft on Station Drive where a woman said some
one opened bank accounts using her Social Security number
and address. They also opened a PayPal account. The wom
an’s bank closed the account before any money was taken.
•noise complaint on Pocket Road where a woman said her
neighbor was shooting behind her residence. He also report
edly “deployed bombs.” Officers heard the gunshots and what
sounded like tannerite explosions, but the neighbor was safely
shooting at a dirt hill on his own property.
•suspicious person on Old State Road where a man saw
another man running across a field close to his house. Near
by, he saw a blanket, women's underwear and two syringes
which contained suspected methamphetamine.
•identity theft on Glenn Gee Road where a man said some
one withdrew $400 from their bank account without them
knowing.
•battery-Family Violence Act on Hwy. 60 where a woman
and her aunt had conflicting stories about an altercation that
occurred after an argument. The complainant said her aunt
and uncle physically and verbally attacked her while she was
retrieving her belongings from the residence. She said her
aunt punched her in the face and slapped her several times as
she tried to push her away. The complainant did have a visible
injury on her face. She said her aunt fell over a vacuum as
she pushed her out of the room, but she continued cursing
and calling the woman names as she moved out. The woman
said her uncle also joined in. Officers spoke with the woman's
aunt, who had a largely different story. She told officers her
niece threw her key down, then pushed her when she tried to
calm her down by putting her hands on her chest. She said she
fell over the vacuum and her niece pushed her down again as
she tried to get up. When the woman fled to her son’s room,
she claimed her niece followed her and tried to choke her. She
yelled for her husband’s help.
•criminal trespass and domestic disturbance on Mountain
Creek Church Road where a woman reportedly broke a win
dow with her hand and broke a television with an ash tray.
Her husband said she has cognitive issues after a car accident
and became upset because he wasn’t spending time with her.
•dog case on Lanier Road where a woman said a stray
dog her neighbors feed chased her dog. She wanted the dog
removed and officers told her to contact an attorney and ani
mal control.
TALMO INCIDENTS
Incidents reported to the JCSO in Talmo were:
•possible shoplifting on Main Street where an employee
recognized the suspect from a previous shoplifting inci
dent, so she followed the woman throughout the store.
When the suspect came to the register, she had cold
compresses hanging out of her purse. She put them on
the counter when the complainant confronted her. The
complainant told officers the woman’s bag was bulging
with suspected stolen goods, but she didn't actually see the
woman take anything. She got a description of the vehicle
and tag number.
•criminal trespass on Old State Road where someone
reported "squatters” were staying at a vacant residence and
possibly doing drugs and stealing copper. Officers found
several people at the residence, and met with the man who
lives at the residence in the backyard. He only knew of
one person who was allowed to be there and wanted all the
others warned of criminal trespass.
•theft of services on Pleasant Hill Drive where someone
bypassed the meter and stole power from a residence.
•simple battery on Pleasant Hill Drive where a woman
said her live-in girlfriend chased her and slapped her.
The two reportedly got into an argument after the suspect
started talking to an ex-girlfriend. The complainant told
officers that she took a kayak she’d given the suspect
outside and the suspect slapped her and chased her while
she tried to get away. But the suspect denied slapping the
woman and claimed she slapped herself, saying, “I’ve got
you now” as she was on the phone with 9-1-1. No arrest
was made due to conflicting stories and the complainant
agreed to stay at a neighbor's house.
•felony theft by taking on Allen Bridge Road where a
man said someone stole his trailer which contained tools
and kitchen cabinets. The stolen items were valued at
$11,000.
•theft of lost or mislaid property on Main Street where
someone took a phone that a man accidentally left at a
store.

Budget Hearing on Thursday, June 8th,
2017 @ 6:30 p.m.
The meeting will be held at 45 AJ Irvin
Road. We will also hold our regular meet
ing immediately following.
