Any woman, over the
age of 18. is invited to
the Braselton Library on
Saturday, July 29, to begin
family research to join the
organization.
The event will be held
from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30
p.m.
Daughters of the Amer
ican Revolution members
will be on hand to answer
questions and give infor
mation about the DAR
organization.
“If you have done any
research on this possibility
or have any documents you
want to share about the
Revolutionary War, please
come and join us for a
short introduction to this
wonderful part of histo
ry for our nation,” leaders
state.
Hoard plans reading, signing of new book
G. Richard “Dickey”
Hoard will host a book
reading and signing for his
new book, “The Missing
Boys.”
The event, which will be
held Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. at the
historic courthouse, is host
ed by the Jackson County
Historic Courthouse and
Historic Archives.
It is the 50th anniversary
of the death of Hoard's
father, solicitor Floyd
Hoard.
D. Hoard will be reading
a selection from his newly
published book “The
Missing Boys,” a story of
murder in a small town,
and also from his previous
book “Alone Among the
Living: A Memoir of the
Floyd Hoard Murder.”
Light refreshments will
follow the readings. Books
will be available.
Admission is free, but
reservations are required
due to limited seating. To
make a reservation, call

Johnson graduates
from Air Force training
U.S. Air Force Airman
1st Class Benjamin T.
Johnson graduated from
basic military training
at Joint Base San Anto
nio-Lackland, San Anto
nio. Texas.
The airman completed an
intensive, eight-week pro
gram that included training
in military discipline and
studies, Air Force core val
ues, physical fitness, and
basic warfare principles
and skills.
Airmen who complete
basic training also earn four
credits toward an associate

in applied science degree
through the Community
College of the Air Force.
Johnson is the son of Lee

Brooks Benton named warden
at Lee Arrendale State Prison
Georgia Department of
Corrections Commission
er Gregory C. Dozier has
announced the reassign
ment of Brooks L. Benton
to warden of Lee Arren
dale State Prison, effective
July 1.
As warden, Benton will
be responsible for over
seeing 345 staff members
and 1,703 special mission
female offenders.
“Brooks has displayed
an exceptional work ethic
during his career with the
department,” said Com
missioner Dozier. “We
look forward to the expe
rience he will bring to his
new role as warden of Lee
Arrendale State Prison.”
Benton began his career
with the department in
1993 as a correctional
officer at Hart Detention
Center.
Benton was promoted, in
1995, to counselor at Whit
worth Parole Revocation
Center and then was pro
moted to senior counselor
in 1997.
In 1998, Brooks was
promoted to assistant
superintendent at Alcovy
Diversion Center, and was
transferred to I.W. Davis
Probation Detention Cen
ter, which is located in
Jackson County.
Benton has a bache
lor's degree in psychology
earned from University of
West Georgia and a minor
in sociology.
He has completed the
following departmental
training: Basic Correc
tional Officer Training
(BCOT), Basic Manage
ment Training (BMT).
Professional Management
Program (PMP), Warden’s
Pre-Command, Correc
tions Leadership Institute
(CLI) and Deputy Warden
of Care and Treatment
Academy.
The Geoergia Depart
ment of Corrections has
