JCSO arrests
Three accused of stealing
tires after caught napping
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested three
men who they suspect stole the tires off a vehicle.
Caleb Duncan Ellington, 21, 210 Clay Drive, Jefferson,
Malik Tamir Hassan El-Amin, 19, and Raheem Abdul Sha
hid El-Amin. 18, both of 87 Silverstone Circle, Jefferson,
face charges of second degree criminal damage to property
and felony theft by taking.
Deputies were called to Katherine Drive after a man
noticed the wheels and tires were taken off his vehicle
during the night and his vehicle was resting on the brake
rotors. His vehicle was also damaged from a jack.
The complainant reported the suspects were asleep in a
vehicle nearby with wheels and tires around their vehicle.
When officers spoke with the men, Ellington said they
were resting before changing their tires, which reportedly
blew that night.
After being arrested, R. El-Amin said Ellington came to
pick him up from a girl’s house and the tires were blown
when he arrived. R. El-Amin said they drove as far as they
could and called a friend so they could drive to get new
tires.
He said when they returned, they were too tired to change
the tires so they fell asleep.
When asked about the stolen tires. R. El-Amin reportedly
said they were “already over there” and they tried them on
their vehicle but they didn’t fit so they put them back.
M. El-Amin had a similar story. He also said they didn’t
take the wheels and tires.
Inside the suspects’ vehicle, officers found 20 lugs nuts
that matched the complainant’s vehicle. It was also the exact
number of lug nuts that were taken from the vehicle.
