HONORED
Far left, Larry Mauzey was honored with a gift for his
work as a Potters House aide for the Lanier Technical
College GED program. Mauzey is retiring and
moving to Texas. Left, Ronald Oliverio was presented
the Sumner J. Smith award for outstanding student
of the year. Also recognized were Elizabeth Garibaldi,
Southeast Toyota $1,000 scholarship; Joh Packard,
Sue Mealor Award for the individual with the highest
single test score on the GED test; and Greg Willeby,
Randy Evans Eagle Award for the exceptional student
who has overcome many obstacles. National Adult
Education Honor Society inductees include: Yurin
Aguierre, Alexandria Christian, Maryland Flowers,
Chris Gibbons, Brandy Harouff, Braley May, and
Ronald Oliverio.
CELEBRATE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
The Braselton Rotary Club recently hosted its 2017 scholarship recipients,
Matthew Ellett and Madeline Gann. The two are with the scholarship com
mittee and their parents, Randy and Jackie Ellett and Jack and Susan Gann.
Ellett gets Rotary

School graduate received one of two Bra
selton Rotary Club scholarships in June.
Matthew Ellett was recognized at the
club's June 22 meeting
The club awards two $1,000 scholar
ships each year for up to four years for
undergraduate study or up to two years for
an associate’s degree.
Ellett earned a 96.8 grade-point-aver
age and was ranked 25th in his class at
JCCHS. He also completed the architec
ture pathway at JCCHS.
Ellett was ranked in the top 10 percent
of his graduating class. He was a member
of several extracurricular clubs in high
school, including marching band and 4-H.
He was a member of the district 4-H
board of directors and led the team in the
cotton bowl consumer judging event. He

was also a member of the 4-H Robotics
Team.
Ellett's teachers described him as having
a “servant heart” and said his “enthusiasm
is contagious.”
“When I think of words to describe
Matthew, he is: immaculate, dynamic,
trustworthy, kind and insightful,” one of
Ellett's teachers said.
Others said he is a problem-solver and
thinks outside the box.
“He is going to be one of those students
who changes history or creates something
that is revolutionary.” one teacher said.
Ellett eventually wants to tackle the
world’s water crisis and ensure safe drink
ing water is available to communities.
He plans to attend Georgia Institute of
Technology this fall and major in material
science and engineering.
