Gun reported missing in Jefferson
A man said he had just noticed a gun he kept
in a night stand in his bedroom was not there.
It was a .40 Smith & Wesson and was valued
about $500.
The man also said the gun was in the name
of a friend of his. The friend confirmed that.
The man also suggested two potential sus
pects, his brother-in-law and his brother.
WOMAN SAYS ‘THREESOME’
WAS IMPETUS FOR TRIP
A woman walking on Interstate 85 said her
boyfriend’s wife had picked her up in Green
ville, S.C., so “they could all have a threesome
together.”
The woman said the boyfriend’s wife was
trying to take her to Texas, “but I was never
able to get a straight answer as to how they
came to be on 1-85 in Jefferson.”
She said the woman put her out on the inter
state with her belongings.
MAN TELLS DEPUTY HE
WILL CALL HIS ‘BOSS’
A father of two juveniles who were the sub
jects of a welfare check said he would call the
deputy’s “boss.”
The deputy checked on the two juveniles
and asked the father, the ex-husband of the
woman who asked for the check, for identi
fication.
The man said the deputy’s action was illegal.
The deputy said he could ask for anyone’s ID
during an investigation.

Other incidents in the Jefferson area report
ed to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office
recently include:
•a man said a neighbor's dog was coming
into his yard. The man said he had called four
times about the problem. He said he called
animal control once and no one showed up.
•a man said two cell phones belonging to
his dead brother were taken from his truck.
The woman who took the phones and said she
wanted to get photos of the brother because
she was his girlfriend.
•a man reported his fiance got a phone call
from a lawyer’s office in California seeking
to collect a debt on her bank credit card of
$1,550. The caller said she should send $350
then and $200 a week until it was paid off. The
woman did send the $350 to the address given.
Her mother also got a call from the lawyer’s
office to get the daughter's work number. The
lawyers' office said the account dated to 2007.
•a man said he and a woman arrived home
about 6:30 p.m. July 20 and found an empty
backpack hanging on the front door. Eggs,
bread and a Bible were on the front porch.
Another report about a man, with whom they
had problems, was made July 19.
•a woman said her son had seen a man look
ing in a window of the house,
•a man said he got a call from someone
claiming to be from the IRS. The person said
he was going to jail because he did his taxes
wrong and owed money. The man hung up
because he knew it was a scam.
•a man reported a Ford Expedition was
stolen by an acquaintance of his. He said the
man borrowed the SUV on July 22 and was
gone for “several hours” after saying he would
be gone for an hour. The next day he came and
got the SUV without permission. The man said
he saw the man on Facebook Live, driving the
vehicle and wrecking it.
•a man said an ATV was taken from his front
yard after 10:30 p.m. July 22. The keys were in
it. The vehicle was a Honda.
•a woman said her sister started hearing
voices and left the house. Another deputy
found the sister and took her back to the house.
She said she did not want to hurt herself and
did not want to go to the hospital.
•a woman said she walked into her daugh
ter's room and she had just injected herself
with heroin. The girl told EMS employees she
also had taken cocaine.
•a man on Dillon Drive said two people
were trying to get into his shed and take his
boat. A deputy said he found no forced entry
and two boats “that appeared to have not been
tampered with.” The man said he heard two
people talking. He said he saw “what appeared
to be shadows run off into the woods.”
•a man said a dog came after him as he was
riding his motorcycle on Swann Circle. He
said the dog was biting his boot.

Man charged with influencing witness at courthouse
A man was arrested at the Jackson County
Courthouse for influencing a witness and dis
orderly conduct.
Charged was Henry Elbert Wiggins, 58,795
Gordon St., Jefferson.
Wiggins was at the courthouse for a proba
tion revocation hearing. The district attorney’s
office was told he was trying to influence a
witness against him.
The woman said Wiggins texted her recently
that she needed to not testify against him for
selling her methamphetamine.
She said Wiggins told her to testify she was
stopped down the street from his house and
that she did not buy drugs from him.
Three officers walked the woman out of the
courthouse.
Wiggins made a comment as the group
walked by and then was “hollering” as they
were walking away from the courthouse.
He was arrested and a large wooden stick
taken from him.
A deputy was standing next to Wiggins as
another deputy went to move a car closer to
him.
“All of a sudden he turned to the left and
appeared to fall on purpose,” the deputy said
about Wiggins.
Wiggins said the deputies made him fall and
he began yelling and cursing about his back
hurting.
The deputy said Wiggins “was doing this
to avoid going to jail.” The last time he was
arrested he “started all of a sudden having
multiple medical problems.”
Wiggins “continued to curse and yell at us
and even laugh when calling us names,” the
deputy said.
FIVE CALLS ABOUT ENTERING
VEHICLES MADE IN SAME AREA
Five calls about entering autos were made
about 2:45 a.m. July 25. The calls were about
vehicles on Hamilton Drive and Aberdeen
Court.
A man said he saw two men carrying a black
bag and walking on the cul-de-sac at the end
of Aberdeen.
An officer saw one man run into the woods.
Another officer saw two men standing at a
house. The two ran behind the house into the
woods.
An officer saw a Chevrolet truck in the drive
with the passenger door open. The glove box
appeared to have been rummaged through, but
the owner said nothing appeared to be missing.
Another vehicle broken into was a Dodge
Nitro. No items were found missing from it.
The third vehicle was identified because of
visible footprints in the dew.
A Chevrolet Silverado also appeared to have
the glove box gone through.
None of the three vehicles were locked.
A checkbook was missing from a Chevrolet
Silverado on Aberdeen Court. The inside of
the truck had been ransacked. The passenger
side door was partially open.
A woman on Aberdeen said the driver’s side
door on her BMW was partially open. Nothing
of value was inside the car.
OFFICERS CARRY
DRUNKEN MAN TO JAIL
A Jefferson man was arrested for public
intoxication and refused to walk to the patrol
car or the jail.
Officers carried Richard L. Williams, 63,
homeless, when he was found asleep near the
Exxon station on Winder Highway.
Williams told an officer to “carry him to jail
for ‘three hots and a cot’” when he was asked
if there was somewhere he could be taken.
An officer said Williams "had slurred speech
and (was) very uncooperative.”
He was carried to the patrol car when he
would not walk and then into the jail.
“I asked Williams several times to get out of
the car so that we could walk into the jail, but
he would only say, ‘Carry me.’”
He had a flip cell phone, cigarettes, an open
Steel Reserve beer and an unopened beer.
TWO ARRESTED, ONE RUNS
AFTER TRAFFIC STOP
Two men were arrested after one of them
ran from officers following a traffic stop on
Highway 129 bypass at Holders Siding Road.
Charged were Treshun Rashad Edwards, 24,
777 Smokey Road, Crawford, giving a false
name or date of birth to a law enforcement offi
cer and obstruction of an officer, and Khirhyat-
kee Atkins, 28, Jefferson, giving a false name
or date of birth, no proof of insurance and
affixing a license plate with intent to conceal.
The driver said he did not have insurance
because he had just bought the Ford F-150.
The bill of sale had the previous date on it.

Woman complains
about estranged husband
A woman called officers with the Jack-
son County Sheriff’s office to her resi
dence about her estranged husband enter
ing her residence while she isn’t there.
They are going through a divorce and the
residence was given to the woman. How
ever, the woman isn’t yet living there and
is only going over to stay for a few hours
so she could be with their dogs.
She complained about her husband using
his key to get into the residence. The only
item she said was missing was a note she
wrote him about not coming back to the
residence.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the JCSO in
Athens/South Jackson were:
•identity theft on Clarksboro Drive
where a man believes his computer was
hacked into and his personal information
was stolen.
•driving while unlicensed and failure to
maintain lane on Oak Grove Road where a
girl took her parents car out for a joyride.
Police turned the girl over to her parents
rather than arrest her.
•suspicious vehicle on Jefferson Road
where police spotted an unsecure vehi
cle with keys in the ignition at a closed
business. However, all of the doors at the
business were secure.
•driving while unlicensed and no insur
ance on Brock Road where police pulled
over a vehicle after verifying that it wasn’t
licensed. The driver told the officer that he
didn’t have a license and was only driving
because he was trying to get to the hos
pital to see his wife. The officer verified
his story and gave the driver a ride to the
hospital instead of arresting him.
•vehicle returned to owner on Hwy. 334
where police pulled over a vehicle that
was reported as being taken without per
mission. Officers followed the driver to his
residence where the vehicle was released
back to the owners.
•civil matter on Timber Ridge Drive
where a woman complained about her
vehicle's motor being ruined after a man
replaced a belt and a water pump.
•suspicious vehicle on Keri Lane where
a member of neighborhood watch called
about a vehicle parked in a vacant lot.
Dispatch was able to contact the owner
who returned to the vehicle shortly after
the officer left.
•criminal trespass on Crooked Creek
Road where a man complained about peo
ple coming on to his property and tearing
open the cover of his hay bales.
•license suspension notification where
police pulled over a motorcyclist who told
the officer that he didn’t have a license.
The officer issued a citation and had the
motorcycle towed.
When the officer got out of the car, the pas
senger ran.
Three officers chased him across the bypass
and down Holders Siding Road.
The man went into the woods, followed by
a JPD officer. The man fell near the railroad
tracks and he was caught.

ment recently include:
•Misty Dawn Jones, 152 Brackett Dr., Ath
ens - held on outstanding warrants.
•Gabrielle Arrington, 6713 Dale Road, Rex
- operating a vehicle with a suspended regis
tration and no proof of insurance.
•Latoya Johnae Wright, 25, 635 Aubrey Dr.,
Athens - held for a probation violation.
•Andrea Megan Lipford, 32, 250 Plantation
Dr., Jefferson - held on a Mississippi warrant
for fraud.
•Heather Ann Hall, 48, 131B Standridge
Road, Jefferson - public drunkenness.
•Franciso Montano, 2 Rider Dr., Gainesville
- DUI-alcohol, driving on a suspended license,
possession of an open alcohol container, oper
ating a vehicle with a suspended registration
and failure to maintain lane.
•Thurmond Brady Anglin, 20, 6319 Brock
ton Loop, Jefferson - driving with no license.
•Jennifer Price, 42, 5111 Elizabeth Lane,
Flowery Branch - reckless driving.
•Anthony Shamal Cowan, 25, 160 Railroad
St., Jefferson - giving a false name and date-
of-birth to officers.
•Tyrese Devonte Demeritte, 18, 1646 Ama
lie Dr., Statham - driving on a suspended
license and speeding.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the JPD recently
include:
•a man on Persimmon Drive said unknown
juveniles broke several small limbs off his pear
trees, tore a small pear tree out of the ground
and threw several stones in his yard. The man
said it has happened several times before.
•three syringes were found on the west side
of the Woodbine cemetery. The syringes were
found in the grass near the woods.
•a woman said she went to the driver’s
license office to change her address. She was
told the license was suspended because of a
failure to appear. A JPD employee told her
someone used her name and date of birth in
a traffic stop. The woman said the same thing
happened about 10 years ago in Cumming.
•a woman said an object from a truck on the
Hwy. 129 bypass hit and shattered, the driver’s
side windshield on her vehicle.
•a man said his bank account showed $186
being paid to Cricket wireless July 20. He said
he does not have an account with that business
and told the bank.
•a woman said she allowed two women and
a man into the house to do a load of laundry.
She said they stole two checks from the man
she lives with. Those checks were cashed for
$100 and $125.
• a Jackson County jail employee reported
vandalism on a Braselton Police Department
officer’s patrol car. Someone spattered blue
paint on the rear and passenger side of the car.
•a woman said she believes her son is
stealing money from a joint account she has
with him. She said $800 was moved from the
account to a Choice checking account. The
bank would not tell her whose account the
money was moved to.
•a woman said she was assaulted in the park
ing lot of the Pendergrass Flea Market. She
said she was walking with her ex-boyfriend
and another man to the boyfriend’s car. Three
women pulled up in a Honda. One of the three
hit her in the face and they fought for a few
minutes.
•a woman said as she left a parking lot
at 492 Athens Street she hit a grate and it
“popped up” and took off the lower side panel
of her car.
•ten accidents with no injuries were report
ed.
