Couple scammed with online ad
JCSO incidents - Athens
Woman hears
a fight at
neighbor s house
A woman on Jefferson Road complained to the Jack-
son County Sheriff’s Office about hearing a violent
argument and someone possibly getting hurt at her
neighbor's house. Then a stray dog with a bloody neck
from the neighbor’s property came on to her property.
The woman told police that the dog belongs to the
neighbor but he refuses to accept it. She also said that
she feeds it daily.
The woman was advised to call animal control for
the dog.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the JCSO in Athens/
South Jackson were:
•trespass on Bob Holman Road where a man com
plained about his fence being damaged. A week earli
er he complained about finding a tent on his property
and that the tent is still there. A path leads from the
tent to where the fence was cut.
•dog complaint on Hwy. 441 where someone called
about dogs being in a vehicle at the flea market
with the vehicle off and windows up. When officers
arrived, they found the vehicle on, with the dogs and
owners inside.
•domestic dispute on Savage Road where a couple
got into an argument.
•criminal trespass and theft by taking on Com
merce Road where someone claimed their vacuum
cleaner was stolen and pictures from their business
were torn down.
•simple assault on Commerce Road where two peo
ple complained about a group of people acting out at
the J&J Flea Market and attempting to hit them with
their vehicle as they left.
•suspicious person on New Kings Bridge Road
where someone came up to a police officer to tell
them about a man lurking in the woods. The officer
went to the location and found an EMT there. The
suspicious man had called them.
•financial transaction card fraud on Timber Ridge
Road where a woman complained about her soon to
be ex-daughter-in-law using her and her son’s joint
debit card to pay for her phone bill.
•civil dispute on Old Commerce Road where two
people complained about a man not giving them
their vehicle back. When officers arrived, the man
removed his items from the vehicle and gave it to the
owners.
•theft by taking on Tommy Barnett Road where a
couple came home from vacation to find their televi
sion missing. The woman called her son and he said
he took it and sold it for drugs.
•burglary on Hwy. 330 where a woman found her
four-wheeler, chainsaw, tiller and pole saw stolen
from her storage shed.
•criminal trespass on Fuller Road where a woman
complained about her boyfriend breaking her phone
by throwing it on the ground and beating on her door.
•suspicious person on Riverbend Lane where some
one called about people in a subdivision’s recreation
area who were not members of the subdivision. An
officer met with the people who said they were just
hanging out.
•suspicious person on Bear Cub Way where a
woman complained about a man banging on her door.
A couple was scammed after responding to an online
advertisement about a 7-night stay in Tennessee.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a
New Cut Road location for a theft by deception case.
A man said he responded to a Craigslist ad for a sev
en-night vacation in Severville, Tenn.
The couple spoke with a man by phone and email and
booked a 7-night stay at a resort. The complainant said the
suspect emailed all the vacation paperwork. He reportedly
claimed he was a booking agent for different resorts.
The couple sent almost $1,800 to the suspect’s email.
After three days at the resort, management called to ask
if the couple had checked out yet. Their booking was only
scheduled for three nights, despite the 7-night stay adver
tisement.
When the complainant told the manager about the online
ad. they said the ad was fake and they didn’t know the sus
pect. She said they never received money for the booking.
The resort allowed the couple to stay for three extra nights
at no extra expense.
After the vacation, the couple tried contacting the suspect
to get a refund. They didn’t get a response.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the JCSO in Hoschton or Bra
selton were:
•theft by taking on Wehunt Road where a man said some
one stole his tool cabinet and a speaker box from his garage.
•verbal dispute on Hwy. 124 West where a woman report
edly yelled and cursed at restaurant employees and refused
to leave the drive-thru line because they took too long to
make her a milkshake.
•illegal dumping on Hwy. 53 where a man said someone
threw out trash in his front yard.
•dog bite on Chesteron Lane where a woman said another
dog attacked a dog her son was walking. The dog reported
ly refused to let go and the complainant and her son were
injured while separating them. The complainant also learned
the dog wasn’t up to date on its vaccinations and said she saw
it kill another dog previously.
•information on Hwy. 332 where an elderly man report
edly made a medical alert call and wasn’t making sense. He
said his former caretakers took his guns, antiques and gro
ceries while he was at the doctor’s office. The caretaker told
officers the guns were still there but he couldn’t find them.
She said he needs someone to stay with him or to go to the
nursing home.
•disturbance on Walnut Road where someone reported
kids were screaming. College-age residents reportedly had
a party to “enjoy a final few days of freedom.’’ Officers also
found marijuana at the scene and the property owner denied
knowing who it belonged to. He said he would keep every
one inside for the night.
•suspicious person on Bell Avenue where a woman report
edly fell asleep in her food and refused to leave a restaurant.
The woman said she was in between residences and didn’t
have a place to sleep.
•suspicious activity on Hwy. 332 where a woman was
reportedly lying on the side of the road having a medical
issue. She was taken to the hospital.
•damage to property on Old Maddox Road where a man
said his mailbox was damaged.
•domestic dispute on Towne Center Parkway where an
intoxicated man refused to get into a car to leave. He eventu
ally got in the vehicle and officers said they would look for
a ring the man was looking for. Shortly after, the man and
his girlfriend argued after he asked her to return the engage
ment ring to him. That reportedly upset the woman, so she
screamed and yelled at him in the car.
•criminal trespass on Jefferson Avenue where a man said
he didn’t want his grandson at his residence after they argued
about the grandson’s child and childcare. Officers told the
complainant he needed to be consistent if he wanted to ban
his grandson from the residence since he and his wife recent
ly allowed him to stay there.
•suspicious person on Hwy. 53 where a man was walking
in and out of the roadway. He smelled like alcohol and said
he had a shot of whiskey. Officers gave him a courtesy ride
to his house.
•damage to property on Hwy. 53 where a vehicle drove off
the road and did $500 worth of damage to a yard.
•theft by taking and financial transaction card fraud on
Elmwood Road where a woman suspects her son took her
debit card and withdrew $600.
•harassing communications on Penny Lane where a man
said his ex-wife threatened him via text message after the
man got custody of their children. She reportedly said they
would “face off’ and that court was “going to be juvenile
compared to what she was going to do.’’
•dispute on Hwy. 53 where a woman changed the locks
on an apartment door and threw a man’s belongings outside.
The couple had reportedly been arguing. Officers advised the
woman she would have to evict him. She agreed to return
and unlock the door.
•suspicious vehicle on Hwy. 53 where a man fell asleep in
his vehicle. He was waiting on his mother so they could get
his flat tire fixed.
•custody dispute on Evergreen Court where a couple
argued over who their juvenile daughter was supposed to
stay with.
•theft by taking on Hwy. 53 where someone stole a small
boat.
•criminal trespass on Gold Crest Drive where a woman
and her daughter reported a man looked through their kitch
en window. When the daughter confronted him. he ran and
drove off. The mother suspects her husband (who she is
getting a divorce with) hired an investigator.
•felony burglary on Arbor Trace where a Braselton man’s
stolen chainsaw was found in Gwinnett County. He had to
file a report to claim it.
•harassment on Lewis Braselton Boulevard where a man
posted harassing messages on Facebook about a motorsports
company’s work on a motorcycle he bought that didn’t work.
•information on Sam Freeman Road where someone
reported a person was consuming or distributing illegal
narcotics.
•suspicious activity on Antrim Glen Road where some
one reported suspicious vehicles. Officers saw construction
workers near the area unloading a large truck of sod at a new
home site.
•loitering and prowling on Ednaville Road where someone
reported a man wearing all black and a ski mask was looking
in windows of a house in the middle of the night. The com
plainant said the suspect took off into the woods when they
turned the porch light on. Officers didn’t find the suspect.
•financial identity fraud on Ridge Way where a woman
said someone opened credit cards in her name.
•suspicious activity on Davenport Road where someone
reported a woman who was “scraped up.” She did have some
injuries, which she said she got while walking through the
woods. She and her boyfriend reportedly got into an argu
ment, but she denied anyone touching her. Officers gave her
a courtesy ride to McDonald’s.
•entering auto and criminal trespass at a Hwy. 53 business
where someone entered a building and went through drawers
and cabinets. They also reportedly took a CD player from a
vehicle at the business.
•custody dispute on Evergreen Court where a man and his
daughter’s mother argued over visitation.
•dog case on Duck Road where a woman was bit by a
dog and struck with a lead pipe while trying to break up
two dogs. She wasn’t sure whether it was her dog, or her
neighbor’s dog, that bit her. Her neighbor reportedly acci
dentally struck her with the pipe while trying to get the dogs
to separate.

Someone breaks into Commerce
residence with juveniles inside
Officers with the Jackson County Sher
iffs Office responded to a call on Mill
stone drive from a girl who locked herself
and her brother in her bedroom when they
heard their alarm go off.
The girl said that while they were in the
room, she heard noises from the kitchen.
After she determined it was safe to leave
the room, she found cups moved from the
kitchen to the living room, a closet open
and her brother’s iPad messed with.
The girl believes a man who is a suspect
in a previous rape case was the intruder
because of text messages he had been
sending her.
