GAME NIGHT AT COMMERCE LIBRARY
Teen Game Night, with help from Jackson County Connections, was held last week at the Commerce Public Library.
‘Boo-Fest’ planned at Commerce library
“Boo-Fest” is coming to the library once again this year
on Tuesday, October 24. from 6-8 p.m.
Children will find favorite activities such as a Spooky
Storytime in the Memorial Garden and carnival style
games along with many exciting new surprises.
The Tuesday afternoon Makerspace program will be
taking a break during the month of October, but will
return to the schedule in November.
Patrons with basic computer skills are invited to regis
ter, either by phone or in person, for a two week Introduc
tion to Microsoft Word class. This class will meet at 1
p.m. on Oct. 16 and Oct. 23. A limited number of library
laptops are available for class use.
Kids who would like to read the book for October’s
Kids Book Club may choose any Geronimo Stilton book.
Manager Angel Tuggle will provide a snack and craft
activity in addition to discussing the book on Friday, Oct.
13, at 4 p.m.
The Book Vine Book Club for adults meets the third
Friday of every month at 1 p.m. for book talk and dessert.
The book for the October 20 meeting is “The Dog Stars”
by Peter Heller. Copies are available for checkout at the
circulation desk.
New adult fiction books now on the shelves include:
Debbie Macomber’s “Any Dream Will Do.” E. Lockhart’s
“Genuine Fraud,” Michael Connelly’s “The Late Show,”
Tom Perrotta’s “Mrs. Fletcher,” Danielle Steel’s “The
Right Time” and Thomas Cullinan’s “The Beguiled,”
which is a movie tie-in with the new Nicole Kidman film.
These new nonfiction titles are also now available:

your Home” by Toni Hammersley, “Remembering Diana

NEW PILOT CLUB MEMBERS
The Pilot Club of Jefferson initiated new members Tuesday, September 19, at the Jefferson City

MAHAFFEY RECOGNIZED
Pilot Club of Jefferson President, Connie
Lynn, presented Marion Mahaffey with the
Pilot Club International Ambassador Award for
2017. Mahaffey received the award for her active
role within the club, plus her constant support
and participation in all of their service projects.
COTTONS VISIT WASHINGTON, D.C.
Mike and Carol Cotton spent the 4th of July on the Mall in downtown Washington, D.C. They enjoyed
viewing the Vietnam Memorial Wall, seeing the parade, and of course, hearing and seeing the incredible
fireworks.
Infinity Healing to speak
Deborah Helms and Dr. Kim Miller of Infinity Healing
Center will speak at the Braselton Woman’s Club meeting
on Oct. 4.
The group meets at noon at the Country Inn and Suites
(925 Hwy. 124. Braselton).
Guests are invited to attend the meeting at no charge.

Angel Ride planned Oct. 14
The seventh annual Angel Ride will be held on Satur
day. Oct. 14, at the Hoschton Depot, located at 18 Rail
road Avenue, Hoschton.
Registration will be at 9 a.m. Kickstands will be at
10:30 a.m. The event will be held “rain or shine.” The fee
is $15 per rider and $10 per passenger.
There will be lunch, bike games, a silent auction, door
prizes, a gun raffle, T-shirts, 50/50 raffle, live music and
games for the kids.
The fundraiser is being held this year for Chris
McGlauchlen, who served in the United States Marine
Corps and completed two tours of duty in Iraq. He has
esophageal cancer.

The Jackson County School System
invites Parents of Title I Schools to
attend an Informational Meeting
Parents of students in the Jackson County
School System are invited to attend a Title I
Annual Meeting on October 3, 2017 at 9:00
A.M. or October 4, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. Parents
will learn about Title I Programs as well as
other Federal Programs within the school
system. Title I provides funding for schools
to provide additional support to students
in core academic areas. District leaders will
discuss specific programs and be available
to answer any questions parents may have.
Topics will include: Overview of the Title I
Program; School-Wide Title I Programs; Dis
trict Parent Involvement Policy/Plan; Title I
Funding; and Opportunities for Parental In
volvement. Representatives from other Fed
eral Programs (Special Education, Title II, Ti
tle III, and Migrant) will be available as well.
Both meetings will be held at the Jackson
County Board of Education located at 1660
Winder Highway in Jefferson. These meet
ings are open to the community and all are
welcome to attend.
