JCSO arrests
Hoschton man charged for convenience store burglary
A Hoschton man was recently arrested after
he burglarized a local convenience store.
Colton Christopher Pass, 22, 250 Marshall
Clark Road, Hoschton, faces charges of bur
glary; unlawful conduct during 9-1-1 calls; and
probation violation.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies
were called to the Hwy. 53 store for an alarm.
They noticed a window was broken and a large
concrete item was inside.
On surveillance video, officers saw a man
throw the concrete through the front door. He
went into the store and used what appeared to
be a machete to open a cash register.
The suspect stole cash, lottery tickets and
cartons of cigarettes before leaving the store.
He later returned to retrieve his machete before
leaving again.
The suspect stole approximately $600 worth
of cigarettes and $500 in cash was missing. It’s
unknown how much the stolen lottery tickets
were valued at.
Later in the week, JCSO deputies were
called to the Hoschton cemetery on reports
of a suspicious person. Pass also called 9-1-1
several times, claiming he needed help.
He told officers he planned to turn himself in
for his outstanding warrants (which he didn’t
have).
He also admitted to the convenience store
burglary because “he didn’t want people get
ting in trouble that were not involved.”
Pass said he was on a methamphetamine
binge and hadn’t slept in two days.
He is also reportedly the suspect of another
burglary on Bell Avenue. In that case, firearms
were stolen from a residence while the home-
owner was away.
Deputies were also called to two incidents
possibly related to the convenience store bur
glary.
In the first, authorities were called back to
the convenience store after a man tried to cash
in the stolen tickets. He said he was a garbage
pickup worker and found books of tickets in
the trash of a Hoschton residence.
Deputies responded to that residence later in
the week for a dispute after someone report
edly pulled a knife on another person. The
suspect denied having a knife, but said he had
a machete in his bedroom and denied touching
it.
“He showed me the machete and I observed
it was a black machete similar to the one used
in the burglary a few days ago at the (conve
nience store) in Hoschton alongside a box of
Edgefield cigarettes.”
A witness confirmed the man never touched
the machete and said the complainant had
“drug problems” and started arguments.
The witness said the complainant was upset
because the man wouldn’t sell her drugs.
ANOTHER ARRESTED DURING
SEARCH FOR BURGLARY SUSPECT
Another Hoschton man was also arrested
while deputies were searching for the burglary
suspect.
Daniel Gil, 33,1132 Reese Drive, Hoschton,
faces charges of battery against a law enforce
ment officer; hold for Barrow County; loi
tering or prowling; tire violation; and willful
obstruction of law enforcement officers.
Deputies followed Gil's vehicle, which
reportedly matched the description of the sus
pect’s vehicle.
They also learned the registered owner pos
sibly had a warrant.
Gil stopped the vehicle in a driveway and
a passenger took off running behind a house.
Gil said the passenger must have been scared.
Meanwhile, officers detained Gil until they
could confirm the warrant. When Gil heard
dispatch give the confirmation, he pushed off
the patrol car and tried to run but the deputy
caught him.
Officers took him to the ground after Gil
appeared to want to strike them. He reportedly
bit the officer and the two wrestled after Gil
resisted arrest.
A backup officer assisted in securing Gil.
