ret Greene Brand, 100, died
Sunday, October 8, 2017, at
Brookside Assisted Living.
She was a member of Com
merce First United Method
ist Church. Mrs. Brand was
born in Griffin, the daugh
ter of the late Melvin Plato
and Rosa Lee Roquemore
Greene. She was a home
maker, seamstress and served
as an assistant to the high
school counselor. She was
preceded in death by her hus
band, Roy Lacy (RL) Brand;
and three sons-in-law. Bill
Smith, Charles Farrell and
Jimmy Moore.
Survivors include her
daughters, Ellen Smith,
Commerce, Rose Farrell,
Covington, Joan Leichner
(Ed), Shelbyville, Tenn.,
and Nancy Moore, Adel; ten
grandchildren; and 21 great
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be
at 2 p.m. Saturday, October
14, at Commerce First United
Methodist Church with Dr.
David Bowen, the Rev. Dick
Reese and Dr. Kathy Lamon
officiating. Interment will
follow in Jackson Memorial
Gardens. The family will
receive friends at the funeral
home Friday, October 13,
from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Cowart was bom July
27, 1924, in Commerce. She
took business classes at the
Burroughs School and Geor
gia State University. She was
a graduate of Homer High
School in Homer, Ga. She
was a retired Supervisor,
Accounts Receivable from
Ivan Allen Company with
over 31 years of service and
she also worked for the Bap
tist Bookstore in Atlanta. She
was a member of Ivy Creek
Baptist Church in Buford,
where she was a member
of the Adult Sunday School
Class and the Women's Club.
Funeral services were
held on Wednesday, October
11, in the Chapel of Fla
nigan Funeral Home with the
Rev. Craig Dale officiating.
Entombment was at North
Atlanta Memorial Park in
Doraville.
Donations may be made to
the Ivy Creek Baptist Church
Mission or Building Fund.

Darnell, 75, passed away
Monday, October 2, 2017.
He was of the Baptist
denomination. Perry loved
the outdoors and working on
old cars. He
was a veteran
serving in the
United States
Army. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Rob
ert Lee and Vallie Stover
Darnell; and three brothers,
James, Robert Jr. and Glenn
Darnell.
Survivors include his wife
of 51 years, Mavis Woods
Darnell; three sons, Dennis

a daughter, Vicky Adams

Funeral Home in Winder.

David Gomez
COMMERCE David
Gomez, 60, died Monday,
October 9, 2017, at his resi
dence.
Mr. Gomez was bom in
San Luis Potosi, Mexico, the
son of the late Pablo Quiroga
and Antonia Guerrero Rosas
Gomez. He worked at Han
sen Technology.
Survivors include his wife,
Lisa Scarsellato Gomez,
Commerce; son, Nicholas
Miller, Commerce; daugh
ter, Dana Gomez, Sanford,
Fla.; brothers, Pablo Gomez,
Texas, and Arturo Gomez,
Chicago, Ill.; sister, Teresa
Gonzales, Illinois.
Memorial services will be
held Saturday, October 14, at
4 p.m. from the chapel of Lit
tle-Ward Funeral Home. The
family will receive friends at
the funeral home Saturday
from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the
service.

John Hasenauer
NICHOLSON - John Wil
liam Hasenauer, 58, passed
away on Tuesday, October
3, 2017.
John was born in
Doylestown, Pa., the son
of Idalean
Hasenauer
and the late
William
Hasenauer of
Point Pleas
ant, Pa.
He was a
son, a hus
band, father,
soldier, and a
friend. Mr. Hasenauer was a
nurse, a physician's assistant,
an EMT, a fireman, and a
Hotshot fire jumper. He flew
medevac in Alaska and was
featured on the Yucon Men
TV show. He was a cham
pion horseman, who enjoyed
Gymkhana and barrel racing
competitions. Mr. Hasenauer
was preceded in death by
his twin sisters, Diana and
Theresa.
Survivors in addition to
his mother include his lov
ing wife, Diane and their
children, Holly and Sage;
three brothers, Glenn, Duane
(Lori), find Scott; two neph
ews, Austin and Duane Jr.;
and four nieces, Brianna,
Robin, Maxi and Amanda.
John never met a stranger.
He loved talking to anyone
and everyone. His kindness
and caring was inspiring and
drew people to him. He made
friends everywhere he went.
His spirit has gone to be
with the Lord, but his unend
ing love and kindness remain
in the hearts of all he left
behind.
Memorial services were
held on Saturday, October
7, in the Chapel of Evans
Funeral Home.

Jefferson, was in charge of
arrangements.

Charles Ivie
WATKINSVILLE
Charles Randall Ivie, 75,
passed away October 8, 2017,
at residence surrounded by
his family and friends.
A native and lifelong
resident of Oconee County,
he was the son of the late
line Pritchett
Ivie. Charles
served with the United States
Army Reserves and was
retired from Baldwin Filters.
He was a charter member
of Briarwood Baptist Church
and a deacon and member of
Bishop Baptist Church. A
very active member of the
community, Charles was a
former councilman for Wat-
kinsville and most recently,
served three terms as Mayor.
Charles served on numerous
committees and was a mem
ber of Oconee Civitan Club
and a Mason.
Survivors include his wife
of 55 years, Carol Downs
Ivie; daughters, Sherrie Ivie
Pope and her husband Mike
and Shawn Ivie Williams
and her husband Byron;
grandchildren, Justin Wil
liams, Hunter Pope and his
fiancee’, Allyson Pelligrino,

and Ivie Grace Bradberry;

‘Bob’Settle
JEFFERSON - Robert H.
“Bob” Settle, 88, formerly of
Greenville, S.C. and Athens,
Ga., passed away on Friday,
October 6, 2017.
Bob was bom in Winder
on January 14, 1929, the son
of Robert
and Wilma
Appleby
Settle. He
was raised
in First Bap
tist Church
Winder,
where he
trusted
Jesus as His
Lord and
Savior, at the age of 13. He
lived the rest of his life seek
ing to honor the Lord in all
areas of his life.
Bob graduated from Wind
er-Barrow High School in
1946 and from North Geor
gia College in 1950. After
college, Bob married Jo
Anne Booth Settle on June
17, 1950. He and Jo Anne
raised three children and
were happily married for 44
years until her death in 1994.
His work career covered
just over 44 years in vari
ous accounting related posi
tions. Bob worked for Dunn
& Bradstreet; with his father
at Settle Motor Company in
Winder; for Sears, Roebuck
& Company in Chattanooga,
Tenn., Rome, Ga., and Ath
ens; for Ivey Realty & Com
pany in Athens; and retired
from Athens First Bank &
Trust in Athens.
In his early retirement
years, Bob enjoyed time with
family and serving through
his local church. Wheth
er he was serving as chair
man of the finance team or
volunteering as a cook for
children's camp, he mod
eled a true servant's heart.
He also volunteered with an
Athens Hospice group, and
did financial work for several
small businesses.
His retirement years
included cultivating a talent
in art. He leaves to his fam
ily many beautiful paintings
of landscapes and landmarks
from travel and his early life
in Winder. His interest in
genealogy resulted in his
publishing an in-depth book
of the Settle family histo
ry. He also wrote a booklet
called “Things I Remember”
which is filled with priceless
antidotes of his growing up
years in Winder.
On April 5, 1999, Bob
married Tempie Robertson
Settle and moved to Green
ville, S.C. He joined Tem
pie in becoming active in
the Greenville community
through the Mauldin Baptist
Church and by serving for
several years on the Mauld
in City Planning Commis
sion. Their years together in
Greenville were filled with
special times with Tempie’s
son, Charles and his family.
Survivors include his wife
of 18 years, Tempie Rob
ertson Settle; brother, Tom
Settle (Carolyn); sister,
Betty Jane Watson (W.A);
son, David Settle (Debbie);
daughter, Karen Newton
(Garry); daughter, Lisa Car
penter (Bruce); and step-son,
Charles Robertson (Caro
line); eight grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren.
Bob's final years were
enhanced by the caring staff
of Mulberry Grove Senior
Living in Statham, Ga., Bent
ley Assisted Living in Jef
ferson, Ga., and Bridgeway
Hospice of Athens, Ga.
Funeral Services were held
Monday, October 9, in the
Chapel of Memorial Park
Braselton. The Rev. Ken
Rucker officiated. Interment
was in Barrow Memorial
Gardens.
