Look to Lord for fulfillment
I remember driving to
the fast food restaurant
with great anticipation. I
wasn’t there for the food.
I was there for the ice
cream.
I ordered
and the per
son operating
the drive-thru
quickly said.
“I'm sorry
ma’am our ice
cream machine
is down.”
What! I've
waited all day.
No ice cream.
Sheer disap
pointment rushed through
my mind. That may sound
crazy, but if you know me,
ice cream is one of my
favorite things. Oh yes. I
survived. That is a small
disappointment compara
tively speaking.
I’ve also been disap
pointed when I didn't get a
job that I thought was per
fect for me. I mean I knew
I was the best candidate. I
couldn’t imagine the com
pany wanting anyone else.
Wrong. I received a letter
in the mail, and I was so
disappointed.
I believe the greatest
disappointments of my
life come when I put my
confidence in people. I'm
sure everyone has these
type experiences.
“I will help you with
that,” a friend once told
me, but I never heard from
that friend and they didn’t
pick up the telephone
when I called.
“I’d love to go with you,
but I forgot I'd already
made a promise to some
one else,” another friend
once said. Wait!! What
about your commitment
to me?
My disappointments
are small compared to the
one’s I read about it scrip
ture.
Actually, the moments
that seem so disappointing
prove to be an opportunity
for a God-sized miracle.
For instance. I cannot
begin to imagine the dis
appointment Joseph felt
when he found out Mary
was expecting a child. I
can’t imagine how Mary
felt either. God was there
with them, and He worked
it out.
Little did
anyone know it
was more than
the lives of the
couple at stake,
it was our hope
for eternity.
Next, I
remember when
Jesus told the
disciples he
would die. They
didn't understand. Then
they watched him die an
agonizing death. Good
ness, I’m sure they were
disappointed and left to
wonder what would they
do without him. Oh, but
their disappointment soon
turned to glory with his
magnificent return. It
seemed to scream defeat,
but it turned to victory
when Jesus redeemed the
world from the slavery to
sin.
Today, how many of us
are living with disappoint
ment? People have let us
down.
We've turned to mate
rial possessions and they
only satisfy us for a brief
moment in time. It is time
for us to put our complete
trust in the Lord. He will
give us a true life of con
tentment.
While people, plac
es, and things may let us
down, our Lord will not
strand us.
It may feel as if he is
nowhere to be found, but
soon we will find that
he is orchestrating great
things for us.
My prayer is that we
will begin to look to the
Lord for our fulfillment.
He can be trusted today,
tomorrow, and for the rest
of our lives.

UM churches plan joint services
The Jefferson First United Methodist and Ebenezer
United Methodist churches will join for combined con
temporary worship services, beginning in January, it has
been announced.
The services will be at 10 a. m. each Sunday and will
be held at the Jackson County Comprehensive High
School.
This will replace the Jefferson church's regular 8:30
and 9:45 a. m. contemporary services, but the church
will continue with its 11 a. m. traditional service at the
church on Martin Street in downtown Jefferson, the Rev.
Chris Laskey, pastor, explained.
“This step aligns with our 2020 vision/strategy to
provide worship in a setting that helps to remove barri
ers for people who will not walk through the doors of a
traditional worship setting for any number of reasons,”
he said.
