Area houses
busted in pot ring
The recent bust of a large marijuana growing ring
involved locations in both Braselton and Hoschton.
The bust led to the arrest of nine people and warrants
for three others. Six locations were hit involving 1,500
plants valued at $7.1 million.
Among the locations hit was 1363 Beringer Drive,
Hoschton (Barrow County) where an indoor grow opera
tion had 400 plants.
Also hit in the raids was 137 Blanc Way, Braselton
(Jackson County) where 200 plants were drying valued
at $738,000.
Several locations in Hall County were also involved in
the operation and raided by authorities.
Among those charged were Phi Ngoc Luong, 25,
Hoschton and Thao Phoung Nguyen, 26, Hoschton.
In addition to a number of state and federal agencies,
the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Barrow County
Sheriff’s Office assisted in the operation.

Superior Court hands down sentences
Sentences in Superior Court of Jackson County recent
ly include:
• Lindsey Marlena Hall - possession of methamphet-
amine - three years probation, $500 fine and waive
Fourth Amendment rights.
•Melissa A. O’Kelley McAfee - possession of schedule
IV substance and prowling and loitering - four years pro
bation, one year in jail with credit for time served, $500
fine and waive Fourth Amendment rights.
•Fermin Godinez - giving false information to law
enforcement officers - 12 months probation, 60 days in
jail with credit for time served and $500 fine.
•Renee Kathleen Grimes - possession of methamphet-
amine - three years probation, $1,000 fine, alcohol and
drug evaluation and waive Fourth Amendment rights.
•Joshua Autry Willard - possession of methamphet
amine and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana
- four years on probation, two years in prison, suspended
on 150 to 180 days in Piedmont Drug Court, $1,500 fine,
drug testing hotline, complete 26 recovery support meet
ings, no alcohol or drugs and waive Fourth Amendment
rights.
•Michael Theodore Butler - two counts of first-degree
burglary, two counts of theft by taking and entering an
automobile - 10 years probation, four years in prison with
credit for time served, $1,000 fine and restitution.
•Steven Brent Powell - possession of amphetamine and
loitering or prowling - four years probation. $500 fine
and waive Fourth Amendment rights.
•Jason Daniel Moon - possession of a firearm by a
convicted felon, habitual violator, driving on a suspended
license and tail lights violation - nine years probation,
two years in prison with credit for time served, $1,000
fine and waive Fourth Amendment rights. A charge of
possession of a firearm by a convicted felon was dis
missed.
•Jessie Marie Oakley - possession of methamphet-
amine - two years probation, waive Fourth Amendment
rights and $500 fine. Charges of possession of metham
phetamine with intent to distribute and possession of less
than an ounce of marijuana were dismissed.
•Brandy Michelle White - possession of methamphet-
amine - eight years probation, three years in prison,
suspended on completion of Residential Substance Abuse
Treatment, $1,000 fine and waive Fourth Amendment
rights.
•Robert Darrell Presley - giving false name to law
enforcement officer - 12 months probation, 90 days in jail
with credit for time served, $500 fine and waive Fourth
Amendment rights.
•Ebenezer Kokie - driving on a suspended license -
three years probation and $1,000 fine, probation may end
on payment of fines and fees. A charge of speeding was
dismissed.
•Anthony Craig Haney - possession of methamphet-
amine with intent to distribute and pointing a gun at
another person - 15 years probation, four years in prison
with credit for time served, $1,000 fine and waive Fourth
Amendment rights.
•Christopher Arron Braithwaite - fleeing from a police
officer, possession of a controlled substance and posses
sion of a firearm during the commission of a felony - nine
years probation, two years in prison and $1,000 fine.
Charges of theft by receiving stolen property, possession
of drug-related objects, drugs not in original container,
use of license plate to conceal identity, failure to maintain
lane, speeding, reckless driving and improper passing on
the right were dismissed.
•Beverly Jean Shoemaker - possession of metham
phetamine - three years probation, $1,000 fine and waive
Fourth Amendment rights. Charges of possession of
methamphetamine and possession of drug-related objects
were dismissed.
•Jerry Allen Keith - burglary and second-degree crim
inal damage to property - 10 years in prison, $1,000 fine,
pay resititution and waive Fourth Amendment rights.
•Tiffany Suttles - trafficking in methamphetamine -
seven years probation, three years in prison with credit
for time served, $1,500 fine and waive Fourth Amend
ment rights. Charges of trafficking in methamphetamine,
possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute,
possession of methamphetamine, two counts of posses
sion of a controlled substance and possession of less than
an ounce of marijuana were dismissed.
•Daniel Mark Brumbalow - second-degree burglary -
nine years probation, one year in jail with credit for time
served. $1,000 fine and pay restitution of $6,292.
•Arturo Belbey - three counts of family violence-bat
tery -50 days in jail with credit for time served, the
remainder on 12 months probation, $1,000 fine and
day-treatment for family violence.
•Nicholas Roger Fortner - battery-family violence, two
counts of aggravated assault and criminal trespass - 10
years on probation, first 82 days in jail with credit for
time served, remainder on probation and no contact with
victims.
•Jack Harrison Jr. - theft by deception - 12 months
probation, $500 fine and restitution of $27,000. A charge
of theft by deception was dismissed.
•Jack Lee Harrison Sr. - two counts of theft by decep
tion - 10 years probation, $5,000 fine and restitution of
$27,000.
•Kelly Raye Rupert - manufacture of marijuana, pos
session of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession
of more than an ounce of marijuana and two counts of
possession of drug-related objects - 10 years probation,
first 30 months in prison and $1,000 fine,
•Andrew James Stubblefield - false imprisonment,
battery-family violence and criminal trespass - five years
probation, 190 days in jail with credit for time served,
$2,000 fine, family violence class, no violent contact and
waive Fourth Amendment rights.
•Robert Tankersly - possession of methamphetamine
and battery-family violence - three years probation, 48
days in jail with credit for time served and $1,000 fine, no
contact with victims and family violence class.
•Jimmy Elliott - aggravated assault - 10 years on pro
bation, first 100 days in jail with credit for time served,
$1,000 fine and no contact with the victim.
•John Watkins - loitering - 12 months probation and
$250 fine.
•Richard Aleph Wright - second-degree burglary -
five years probation, one year in jail with credit for time
served, $1,000 fine and $600 in restitution.
•Joseph Cristales, three counts of child molestation and
failure to register as a sex offender - 40 years probation,
15 years in prison with credit for time served, fine $1,000,
no contact with victims or children under 16. register as
a sex offender and child molestation sex offender coun
seling.
•Bruce Wayne Hill - possession of a controlled sub
stance - three years probation, first month in jail and
$1,000 fine.
•James Avery Parson - possession of methamphet
amine - three years probation, $500 fine and waive
Fourth Amendment rights.
•Dana Whitlock - theft by taking, criminal trespass
and obstruction - 36 months probation, $500 fine, waive
Fourth Amendment rights, do not return to Dollar General
store and Residential Substance Abuse Treatment.
•Colton Pass - first-degree burglary and second-degree
burglary - 10 years probation, five years in prison with
credit for time served, $500 fine, restitution, waive Fourth
Amendment rights and banished from addresses outlined.
•Owsley Jerome Tanner - possession of more than an
ounce of marijuana - seven years probation, $1,000 fine
and waive Fourth Amendment rights.
•Amy Renee Kanada - possession of methamphet
amine and possession of drug-related objects - four years
probation, $1,000 fine and waive Fourth Amendment
rights.
•Mary Esther Greene - theft by receiving stolen prop
erty, obstruction of law enforcement officers and failure
to report accident - three years probation and $1,500 fine.
•Joshua Charles Schooler - fleeing or attempting to
elude a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and
driving on a suspended license - six years probation,
$5,000 fine, two years in prison suspended upon comple
tion of Residential Substance Abuse Treatment program
and waive Fourth Amendment rights.
•Adam Leroy York - third-degree forgery - five years
probation and $500 fine.
•Ronnie Letree Amphy - possession of methamphet
amine, possession of a firearm during the commission of
a felony and giving a false name, address or birthdate to
law enforcement officer - seven years probation, $2,000
fine, alcohol and drug evaluation and waive Fourth
Amendment rights.
•Alex Daniel Wilkins - possession of Methadone -
three years probation, $1,000 fine, alcohol and drug eval
uation and waive Fourth Amendment rights.
•Brittany Ann Cosgrove - possession of methamphet
amine and possession of drug-related objects - four years
probation, 19 days in jail with credit for time served, $500
fine and waive Fourth Amendment rights.
•Stanley Floyd Lee - possession of Oxycodone, posses
sion of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of
drug-related objects - five years probation, two years in
prison, suspended on completion of Jackson County Drug
Court, $1,000 fine and waive Fourth Amendment rights.
•Robert Peirce - reckless conduct - 12 months proba
tion, 30 days in jail with credit for time served and vis
itation to be in compliance with Division of Family and
Children Services guidelines in case plan.
•Jack Elliott Carnes - possession of marijuana with
intent to distribute, reduced to possession of marijuana;
failure to carry driver’s license; and improper U-turn - 24
months probation, $500 fine and waive Fourth Amend
ment rights.
•Tina Thomas Cook - three counts of first-degree forg
ery and theft by taking - eight years probation, two years
in prison suspended on payment of restitution.
•Caleb Duncan Ellington - second-degree criminal
damage to property and theft by taking - five years pro
bation, 81 days in jail with credit for time served, $1,000
fine, banished from victim and victim’s house, restitution
and waive Fourth Amendment rights. A charge of crimi
nal trespass was dismissed.
•Willie Thomas Page - possession of methamphet
amine, entering an automobile and three counts of theft
by taking - eight years probation, $1,000 fine, alcohol
and drug evaluation, no drugs or alcohol, random drug
screens and banished from addresses outlined. Charges
of possession of methamphetamine and possession of
drug-related objects were dismissed.
•Kevin Lee Paquette - possession of heroin - two years
probation, may terminate after one year if fines and fees
are paid, $500 fine and waive Fourth Amendment rights.
A charge of possession of a controlled substance was
dismissed.
•Freida Gail Parish - possession of methamphetamine
and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana - three
years probation, $500 fine and waive Fourth Amendment
rights. A charge of possession of drug-related objects was
dismissed.
•Alan Wesley Patterson - possession of methamphet
amine and possession of drug-related objects - four years
probation, $500 fine and waive Fourth Amendment rights.
•Phillip Bailey Porter - criminal attempt to commit
murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by
a convicted felon - 20 years in prison, five years proba
tion. no contact with victim and banished from Georgia
except Seminole County.
•Jeremy Douglas Powers - fleeing a police officer and
speeding - four years probation, may terminate after two
years if no violations and fines are paid and $1,000 fine.
•Michael Tucker Smith - first-degree burglary - 10
years probation, three years in prison with credit for
time served, $1,000 fine, alcohol and drug evaluation,
waive Fourth Amendment rights, no contact with victims
or their house, restitution and testify truthfully against
co-defendants. Two counts of theft by taking were dis
missed.
DISMISSED
•William Keith Bragg - theft by deception and identity
fraud.
•Russell Clifford Foster - possession of methamphet
amine.
•Riley Jefferson Rupert - trafficking in marijuana,
manufacture of marijuana, possession of marijuana with
intent to distribute, possession of more than an ounce of
marijuana and two counts of possession of drug-related
objects.
•Robert Stephen Saliba - two counts of battery-family
violence, two counts of third-degree cruelty to children,
three counts of simple battery, terroristic threats, criminal
trespass and simple assault.
•John Stancil Wakins - furnishing prohibited items to
inmates.
•Kentari Marquez Clark - second-degree burglary.
PUBLIC MEETING
The City of Commerce hereby gives notice that
the City of Commerce will hold a Public Meet
ing on November 3, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. (noon)
at the Commerce Civic Center, 110 State Street,
Commerce, Georgia 30529.
The purposes of the public meeting are to:
1. Inform the public of the need for improvements
to the City’s wastewater treatment system.
2. To comply with Section 39-1-3-6.02 of Geor
gia’s Water Qualitiy Control Rules and Regu
lations (and amendments thereto).
3. To encourage public involvement in the devel
opment of a plan to improve the wastewater
treatment system.
The public meeting will attempt to identify pub
lic references for alternative methods of improv
ing the City’s wastewater treatment facilieis.
These alternatives will be evaluated and includ
ed int he City’s Environmental I Information
Document.
Public participation is considered essential to
the selection and development of the final plan
to be adopted prior to its approval by the State of
Georgia, Department of Natural Resources.
