JCSS FFA members ‘truckin in style’
Akins Ford in Winder has made
two 2017 Ford F-350 flatbed trucks
available to the Jackson County
School System for a $24 lease for
the coming year with a commitment
to replace the vehicles annually.
The trucks, valued at a total of
more than $100,000, bear the Akins
logo, along with logos for the East
Jackson and Jackson County com
prehensive high schools' Eagles and
Panthers FFA.
April Howard, JCSS superinten
dent, told the Jackson County Board
of Education Oct. 9 when the vehi
cles were presented at East Jackson
Elementary School, that the trucks
would be used primarily for FFA
activities but would be available for
other needs as well.
With special thanks to Brad Akins
and the Akins Ford dealership, How
ard pronounced the $1 per-truck-per-
month lease offer and the vehicles
“awesome,” and she thanked BOE
member Michael Cronic and Bran
don Boone for their efforts in secur
ing the trucks.
“Our trucks had gotten kind of
worn out and rough looking,” Cronic
said, citing both extensive mileage
- more than 350,000 miles on the
vehicles the trucks would replace -
and wear.
“With the level of competition
our students are performing at, this
has become a real point of pride for
them,” Howard said, noting recent
high rankings and first-place finish
es at the Georgia National Fair by
members of the schools' FFA teams.
She praised Akins’ “generous,
generous support of our school sys
tem,” which will allow the students
to “continue their participation with
quite a showing.”
Faculty and students participat
ing in the presentation included
Todd Shultz, Shannon Lawrence,
Joel Adair, Cale Howington, Wyatt
Chandler, Austin Hill, Bella Gran
der, Peyton Bragg. Peyton Puckett.
Kaylie Boone, Nate McKinney, Josh
Whitworth and Micah Story.
