JCSO arrests
Man booked in county jail faces charges of child molestation
A Gainesville man was charged with child
molestation last week.
Eleazar Mata, 41,2648 Glenn Dale Drive,
Gainesville, was arrested for child molesta
tion and possession of methamphetamine.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office depu
ties were called to assist the Hall County
Sheriffs Office on the incident, which
reportedly occurred in late April at a Lanier
Road, Pendergrass, residence.
Mata was reportedly arrested in May after
a search warrant was executed at the Lanier
Road residence.
He was processed in the Jackson County
Jail on Oct. 6.

DUI-marijuana or controlled substance; pos
session of marijuana less than an ounce; and

while unlicensed; DUI-multiple substances;
failure to maintain lane; failure to notify
owner upon striking fixture; failure to report
an accident with injury, death or damage;
hit and run; open container; and reckless

Commerce PD
Convenience store burglarized in Commerce
A Commerce convenience store was
recently burglarized.
Commerce Police Department officers
were called to the Maysville Road business
on Oct. 10 on reports of burglary.
Someone broke out the windows of the
front door of a convenience store and took
approximately $300 from the cash register.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the CPD were:
•first degree forgery on South Broad
Street where someone used a counterfeit bill
to make a purchase at a store. The customer
said he didn’t know it was counterfeit.
•theft by taking on Medical Center Drive
where someone reportedly stole a woman’s
wedding ring at a nursing home.
•information on South Elm Street where a
K-9 unit jumped on a fireman and bit him.
The dog was reportedly attached to a fire
hydrant while the officer was cleaning his
vehicle. The bite “was not bad and didn’t
need medical attention.” but it tore the fire
man’s shirt.
•theft by taking on South Elm Street
where a woman didn’t return a gate lock and
key after she moved out.
•criminal damage to property on Homer
Street where a cable was broken at the
entrance of a business. It also damaged a
pole that a camera was placed on. The vehi
cle owner that caused the damage agreed to
pay for the repairs.
•deposit account fraud (bad checks) on
Maysville Road where someone cashed a
fraudulent check for $480.
•criminal trespass on Scott Street where
someone threw a drink on a vehicle. The
complainant’s daughter suspects it may be
someone from school who she has a “beef'
with.
•simple battery on SR 334 where a man
reportedly punched another man in the face
during an argument in a shopping center
parking lot. He said the other man pushed
him first, which the other man denied.
•information on Old Maysville Road
where a woman reported her 13-year-old
granddaughter had contacted a registered
sex offender for weeks. Some of the man’s
messages included, “Been missing you at
church,” and “You are growing into a beauti
ful young lady, more grown-up every time I
see you.” He also reportedly asked her what
age she was and said, “your daddy will have
to be beating the boys off pretty soon.” The
child told her grandmother about the inci
dent after the man asked her to send photos
in a bathing suit. They contacted the man’s
church and later learned he’d contacted two
other young females. The Bibb County
Sheriff’s Office has an active investigation
on the man.
ARRESTS
Arrests made by the CPD were:
•Victoria Shani Chandler. 28, 401 Heri
tage Hills Drive, Commerce — probation
violation.
•John Norman Langston, 73. 120 Heri
tage Court, Commerce — criminal trespass.
Langston is suspected of cutting his neigh
bor’s cable wires. He denied it, though, and
said the damage may have been done by an
animal that he was searching for in the area.
•Steven Perrine. no age or address listed
— driving under the influence (DUI)-dmgs.
Perrine wrecked his vehicle in a ditch and
officers said he seemed impaired. He told
officers he’d consumed four beers and was
arrested after a field sobriety test. But Per
rine had a .0 blood-alcohol level and some
one reported Perrine had taken Klonopin
after running out of prescribed methadone.
Perrine later told officers he had taken mul
tiple Diaudid pills.
•Justin Curtis Johnson, 27, 59 Green
Street, Commerce — possession of mari
juana less than an ounce: and Haley Marie
Jones, 25. 630 Duncan Road. Commerce
— DUI-drugs, failure to maintain lane and
possession of marijuana less than an ounce.
The two were stopped and officers smelled
marijuana and Jones admitted she’d smoked
some previously and had some in the vehi
cle. While one officer instructed Jones for
a field sobriety test, another officer found
additional marijuana on Johnson and near
where he was seated. Both were arrested.
