JCSO incidents - Jefferson
Three dogs killed, found tied to gate
A man on Holiday Cemetery Road said a family mem
ber came to the property to feed his dogs and found three
of them dead and tied to the gate at the entrance.
He said he had four dogs on the property and the other
one found was not harmed, but was running loose.
He said dogs had gotten loose and killed chickens
belonging to a neighbor. He said the dogs were found tied
to the gate after that incident.
MAN REPORTS BEATING WITH CANE
A disabled man on McMullan Rd. was beaten recently
and injured during an assault.
The man said he tried to call 911 and the assailant

but the assailant hit him with the cane through the living
room into the kitchen.
He said the man finally quit beating him and left in a
pickup truck.
A deputy said blood was found on the front door and
several places in the kitchen. The blood “was consistent
with (his) testimony that he had been assaulted all the
way through the living room and kitchen, stopping at the
back door.”
The victim was taken to Piedmont Athens Regional
Medical Center for treatment.

JCSO arrests
Two charged after man escapes
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies recently
arrested two people after one of them helped the other
escape custody.
Jorge Bahena, 24, 6346 Athens Hwy., Jefferson, faces
charges of escape; hold for Clarke County; and willful
obstruction of law enforcement officers. Bobie Leeann
Garrett, 26, homeless, faces charges of willful obstruc
tion of law enforcement officers and aiding or permitting
another to escape lawful custody.
Deputies were called to Oak Grove Rd. for reports of
suspicious activity where three people were allegedly
hiding out behind a trailer in a shed.
Bahena initially refused to come to officers, instead
hiding behind a vehicle. Garrett reportedly became con
frontational about why officers were there and Bahena
wouldn’t tell deputies his name.
Officers later learned Bahena’s identity and tried to
detain him after learning he had a warrant.
Bahena fled and after deputies caught him, he repeat
edly tried to get away with Garrett’s help (she reportedly
grabbed his legs).
He was ultimately detained after officers threatened to
tase him. Still, Garrett continued to reach for Bahena and
tried to get into his pocket.
Bahena was placed inside a patrol vehicle, but when
officers went to unlock the car, the back doors unlocked,
too. Garrett allegedly opened the door where Bahena was
sitting and he again fled. Officers tackled him and he was
detained.
