Jefferson man arrested after tossing drugs
A Jefferson man faces a drug charge and other
traffic violations recently after he threw objects out
the passenger side window when an officer made a
traffic stop.
Jeffery Jerome Pope, 55, 146 Pine St., Apt. B207,
Jefferson, was charged with possession of cocaine,
safety belt violation, obstructing a law enforcement
officer and defective tires.
An officer said he saw Pope throw something out
of the car when he stopped behind Jefferson City
Hall.
He said Pope “continued to dig in the seats” when
he told him to show his hands. The officer drew his
gun and continued to tell Pope to get out and show
his hands.
The object thrown out had 24 crack cocaine rocks
in it. The officer also found a counterfeit $20 bill in
Pope’s wallet and a total of $426. Five were $1 bills
that were in the console under the radio.
BURGLARY OF CIGARETTES,
CIGARS, CASH, GUN REPORTED
Five men were reported to have broken the front
glass door of the Petro Express, Hwy. 129, about

The store manager said they took at least 90 car
tons of cigarettes. Also taken were cigars, a safe
with about $1,000 and a .9 mm Smith and Wesson
gun.
Video showed a dark sedan pull up to the side
of the gas station. Four men left the car and one
smashed the glass panels. A fifth man later entered
the store. All the men had black trash bags.
Just as an officer was arriving at the business, the
dispatcher issued a “be on the lookout” warning
for a dark car with five men who were wanted for
questioning about a burglary at the Dollar General in
Hoschton. That alarm went off at 5:32 a.m.
