On Friday, September 11, Commerce Police Depart ment officers responded to Tractor Supply on Homer Rd. to the reported theft of sever al kayaks. The first theft was reported on August 29. On September 11 the man ager arrived around 6 a.m. and found the lock had been cut on the area where five kayaks had been strapped to the fence at the front of the store. Two of the missing kayaks were found in the grass be tween Tractor Supply and the back of Dollar General. The stolen kayaks are val ued at approximately $1,000. In the area near Dollar Gen eral where the two kayaks were found it appeared some one drove through the grass. A paint transfer was seen on the fence that looked as if it had been struck by some thing, but it was unknown if that was from this incident or a prior incident. OTHER INCIDENTS •too fast for conditions and possession of marijuana on Hwy. 441, Commerce, where a traffic stop was conducted. •warrant served at Fast and Friendly, Ila Rd., Commerce, where a suspicious person was reported. An employee reported a female had been “passed out” in her vehicle for over three hours and when they tried to wake her to in form her she needed to leave the property she would only look at them and laugh. •purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution, etc. of marijuana and imped ing the flow of traffic by driv ing side-by-side on Hwy. 15, Commerce, where a traffic stop was conducted. •damage to property and hit and run, duty of the driver to stop at or return to the scene of an accident on Huntington Ln., Commerce, where a man reported he heard a crash and found his mailbox had been destroyed by the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro. •information report at Her itage Crossing Apartments, Commerce, where a woman reported someone was bang ing on her back door in what she believes was an attempt to break in. •affray at the Commerce Civic Center, State St., Com merce, where several adults were involved in a fight re portedly over a misunder standing between two chil dren. •information report on Hannah Way, Commerce, where a man reported his wife, whom he has a Tempo rary Protective Order (TPO) against, was driving around his road. •theft by taking at Quality Foods, Maysville Rd., Com merce, where a woman re ported her purse, with $300 in cash, her cell phone, car keys and her sister's EBT card inside, had been stolen. •financial transaction card fraud reported to the Com merce Police Department, Elm St., Commerce, a woman reported South where over $2,250 in fraudulent charges on her bank debit card. •entering an automobile of other motor vehicle with the intent to commit a theft at Auto Gallery Dodge, Ho mer Rd., Commerce, where a man reported $1,600 had been stolen from inside the console of his truck while it was at this location. •theft by taking on Cedar Dr. Ext., Commerce, where a man reported a female he knew stole $300 from inside the sunglass compartment of his car. •suspicious incident at the General Electric Appliance Distribution Center, Steve Reynolds Industrial Pkwy., Commerce, where a man re ported the license plate had been stolen off his trailer. •domestic dispute be tween a woman and her ex-boyfriend at a Crossing PI., Commerce, residence. State Court of Jackson County Recent proceedings in state court The following were re cently sentenced in State Court proceedings in Jackson County: •Lucas Keith Carpenter, simple battery and terror istic threats, $100 fine, 12 months probation, mental health evaluation, no alcohol, screens and no contact with victims. •Valdon Monroe Cooper, violation of a Family Vio lence Order, $500 fine, 12 months probation and no vio lent contact with victim. •Kenneth James Eder, fur nishing alcohol to a minor, $300 fine and 12 months pro bation. •Cory Eugene Gaddis, ter roristic threats, $500 fine, 12 months probation, 12 anger management classes and no contact with victim. •Timothy Jason Harper, criminal trespass and simple assault - Family Violence Act (FVA), $1,000 fine, 12 months probation, 12 anger management classes, drug/ alcohol evaluation, no alco hol/drugs, screens and no vi olent contact with victims. A charge of disorderly conduct was dismissed. •Bryant Darrell Watkins, possession of marijuana and improper use of a vehicle, $800 fine and 12 months pro bation. Charges of tampering with evidence and expired tag were dismissed. •Suyein Maryling Zapata, Driving Under the Influence (DUI) - alcohol and fail ure to maintain lane, $1,300 fine, 12 months probation, 48 hours confinement with cred it for time served, 40 hours of community service, drug/ alcohol evaluation. Risk Re duction Program (RRP) and screens. •Elizabeth Ann Bogue, DUI - alcohol under age 21, $600 fine, 12 months proba tion, 24 hours confinement with credit for time served, 40 hours of community ser vice, drug/alcohol evalua tion, RRP, no alcohol and screens. •Otis Bernard Wither spoon, DUI - alcohol and speeding 59/45, $800 fine, 12 months probation, 24 hours confinement with credit for time served, 40 hours of com munity service, drug/alcohol evaluation, RRP, no alcohol and screens. An open contain er charge was dismissed. •Iris Yaneth Silva-Asencio, disorderly conduct and driv ing without a valid driver’s li cense, $1,250 fine, 11 months and 19 days probation, par enting classes and 48 hours confinement with credit for time served. •David James Recker, theft by taking and criminal tres pass, six months confinement with credit for time served. •Gregory Evans Lawrence, disorderly conduct, improper use of a vehicle and public drunkenness, $3,000 fine, 12 months probation, 40 hours of community service, drug/ alcohol evaluation, RRP, no alcohol and screens. •Regina Lynn Parker, theft by taking, $500 fine, 12 months probation, MRT pro gram, $190 in restitution to Circle K and do not return to Circle K. •William Harold Griffin, disorderly conduct, $500 fine, 12 months probation, no con tact with victims and confis cated firearms to be returned. •Tabatha Gail Chinn, bat tery - FVA and cruelty to children, $1,500 fine, 12 months probation, 24 Family Violence Intervention Pro gram (FVIP) classes, drug/al- cohol evaluation, no alcohol/ drugs, screens and no violent contact with victim. Charges of battery - FVA and sim ple battery - FVA were dis missed. Arcade continued from 6A of pain to her chest and she had superficial cuts to her hands. She was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center for treat ment. The accident was handled by the Georgia State Patrol. Whitfield Rd. •assist motorist with a flat tire on Hwy. 129 North at Athens Hwy. •theft by taking on Ath ens Hwy.. where a woman reported someone stole a “Trump” sign from her front yard. •civil matter on Athens Hwy., where one man owes another $72 for pine straw. •operating an unregistered vehicle and no insurance on Hwy. 129 South at Anglin Rd.. where a traffic stop was conducted. •no insurance and sus pended registration on Hwy. 129 North at Rick Forge Rd.. where a traffic stop was conducted. •verbal dispute between a woman and her boyfriend at a Melvin Phillips Rd. resi dence. •suspicious incident on Athens Hwy., where a man found a keyring with keys and a medical tag for a pet or animal hospital. •suspicious incident on Swann Rd., where the com plainant reported a man and woman her fighting at this residence. •no insurance and expired registration on Hwy. 129 South at Terry Farm Rd., where a traffic stop was conducted. •assist motorist with a dis abled vehicle on the Major Damon Gause Bypass at Athens Hwy. •civil matter on White Oak Trl., where a dispute involving Jackson County Water and Sewerage Au thority (JCWSA) personnel was reported. •civil matter on Brook shire St., dispute over a tow ing bill for a car involved in a wreck in Gwinnett County that had been towed to the Arcade location. •terroristic threats and acts at an Athens Hwy. res idence. where a man report ed being threatened by two individuals he had allowed to move in with him. •use of a license plate with the intent to conceal the identity of a vehicle and operating an unregistered vehicle on Hwy. 129 South, where a traffic stop was conducted. •driving unsafe/improp erly equipped vehicle on Rock Forge Ln., where the complainant reported a man was riding a go-cart in and racing up and down the roadway. •animal complaint on Hickory Trl.. where a wom an reported her boyfriend had shot and killed her neighbor's dog when it was running loose and came into their yard and was acting aggressively towards their cats. •criminal trespass on Val ley Dr., where a man was reportedly walking a dog, “hollering and cursing” and hitting himself about his head. •custody dispute reported to the Arcade Police Depart ment, Athens Hwy. •suspicious incident on North Trotters Way, where a woman reported a sus picious male had been hanging out in front of her mother’s residence and she believed he was in posses sion of a gun. •suspicious incident on Athens Hwy., where a man was reportedly walking on the side of the roadway in the rain wearing dark cloth ing and it was hard to see him. •battery - Family Vio lence Act (FVA) at a Na thaniel Dr. residence, where a physical domestic dispute was reported. •suspicious incident at Clipper’s On The Run, Winder Hwy., where a fe male, who appeared to be stranded, was standing on the front sidewalk with sev eral clothing containers. •verbal dispute at Dollar General, Hwy. 82 South, where the manager reported being verbally attacked by a male upset because the store was not yet open. •animal complaint on Hwy. 129 South at Rock Forge Rd., where a dog was reportedly wandering in the roadway. •simple battery - FVA on Rock Forge Rd. at Stone Rd., where a dispute was reported between two men. •abandoned vehicle towed from Hightower Trl. •assist Jefferson Police Department officers with a domestic dispute on Duke St.. Jefferson PD Illegal dumping at Jefferson business Illegal dumping reported at Jefferson business recently. On Sunday, September 12, Jefferson Police Department officers responded to Norcross Tag on Galilee Church Rd. where the complainant reported within the past two or three weeks someone had unlawfully dumped between 15 and twenty tires on the ground behind the building. There was no video footage of the incident and no way to identify where the tires came from. OTHER INCIDENTS Other incidents recently reported to the JPD were: •simple battery at Speedway, Speedway Dr., Jefferson, where two employees had reportedly gotten into a verbal ar gument and one had pushed the other. •information at the Jefferson Police Department, Washing ton St., Jefferson, where a man requested to have his name removed from the title to a vehicle that he had loaned to an ex-employee back in 2017. He said he had been unable to get in touch with the ex-employee. •theft by deception on Azalea Way, Jefferson, where a wom an reported being scammed out of $7,000 by a man claiming to be helping her grandson get out of jail in Ohio. •no insurance and operating a vehicle with a suspended/ cancelled/revoked registration on Winder Hwy., Jefferson, where a traffic stop was conducted. •theft by taking at the Pendergrass Flea Market, Hwy. 129, Pendergrass, where a vendor reported the theft of a backpack from his booth. •theft by taking on Spinner Dr., Jefferson, where a man re ported a car tag had been stolen. •financial identity fraud on Institute St., Jefferson, where a man reported over $1,000 in fraudulent charges on his debit card. •simple assault and child custody dispute on Winder Hwy., Jefferson, where a custody exchange was taking place at the old Jackson County Comprehensive High School football field. •information report at the Jefferson Police Department, Washington St., Jefferson, where a woman reported an argu ment with her aunt after her aunt cut the complainant’s daugh ter’s hair without permission. •information report on South Holland Dr., Pendergrass, where a female reported being assaulted by a male she works with. She said the male shuck her with his hard hat knocking her to the ground. •criminal trespass on Mahaffey St., Jefferson, where a cou ple was observed inside a home and going through items that had been placed on the front lawn during an eviction. •criminal trespass on Jett Robert Rd., Jefferson, where a woman reported a man was living in a shed behind her de ceased father’s home and he didn't have permission to be there. •simple assault and terroristic threats and acts at a Dixie Red Ave., Jefferson, residence, where a woman reported her daughter's boyfriend had threatened to kill her and her daugh ter. •hit and run, failure to stop and render aid at Evans Funeral Home, Winder Hwy., Jefferson, where the driver of a truck backed over the buildings air conditioning unit, knocked it off the base and then left the scene. •theft by taking on McClure Dr. at Jett Roberts Rd., Jeffer son, where a truck was seen at a fire hydrant, possibly stealing water. •theft by taking at Anything on Wheels, Washington St., Jefferson, where the complainant reported someone had sto len a catalytic converter off a Ford truck, but left it sitting un derneath another vehicle on the lot. •criminal trespass on Jefferson Blvd., Jefferson, where a man reported a suspicious person outside his residence. •theft by deception on Hwy. 330, Statham, where a woman reported paying $325 by Venmo for a deposit on a Maltese puppy that was for sale and then receiving a call that the mon ey had not been paid and she needed to send another $325 deposit through a different app. She researched and found out the phone number is registered to a female in California. •theft of lost/mislaid property at Lavaquita Flea Market, Hwy. 129 North, Pendergrass, where a man reported his wal let had been stolen. •harassment by telecommunications on Oak Ave., Jeffer son, where a woman reported harassing texts and threats from a man she had an extra marital affair with. •aggravated assault on Pine St., Jefferson, where a fight was reported. •information report on Heritage Ave., Jefferson, where a man reported the theft of a gold ring with diamonds from his chest-of-drawers. •information report on Blue Bird Ln., Jefferson, where a woman received a call from a man advising her to send him $500 or he was going to kill her. •domestic dispute between a woman and her husband on Elberta Dr., Jefferson. •criminal trespass on Bailey Park Ct., Jefferson, where a dispute was reported between a man and his son. PUBLIC NOTICE SPLOST 6 Citizen Oversight Committee On September 14, 2021, the Water and Sewerage Oversight Committee heard a presentation from the City of Commerce regarding proposed projects to be funded by SPLOST 6. The Committee determined: “The purchase of two (2) dump trucks, one (1) utility service truck, and miscellaneous water and sewer system upgrades presented by the City of Commerce is a project that complies with the project list the City included on the SPLOST ballot.” The Committee also recommended that the project move for ward.
