JEFFERSON, JACKSON COUNTY GEORGIA 30549 $1.00 COPY Planners Easter Jackson planners recommend approval of truck stop, multi-tenant commercial project By Hannah Barron hannah@mainstreetnews. com A proposed truck stop on Holly Springs Rd. got the green light from the Jackson County Planning Com mission at its March 23 meeting. The commission recommended approval of a truck stop proposed for 16 acres on Bill Wright and Holly Springs roads. Axis Infrastructure is seeking a zoning change (A-2 to HRC) and special use permit for two parcels for the project. The two parcels would include a 7-Eleven conve nience store, fuel pumps and a Peterbilt Truck Sales and Repair Center. Conditions for the project include: Access not being permitted or allowed on Bill Wright Rd. and an ad ditional 20 ft. of right-of-way along the proposed re alignment of Bill Wright Rd. is to be deeded to Jackson County prior to the issuance of any land disturbance permit. It appears residents will get to decide that question later this year. The Commerce City Council is moving for ward with plans to put a bond referendum on No vember's election ballot. The move would be to borrow money to pay for new recreation facilities in the city with the bonds paid off by increasing the city’s millage rate. City staff will engage engineers and architects to get an idea about the See Commerce, page 2A Pendergrass Pendergrass to hold special election June 20 The City of Pendergrass will hold a special election on June 20 to fill the vacant seats for mayor and coun cil seats of Post 1 and Post 6. Longtime mayor Monk Tolbert died in March and Harlan Robinson and Tawnia Justice resigned their council positions. Qualifying will be held April 10, 11 and 12 at the Pendergrass City Hall. A number of Easter-related events are planned this week, includ ing: COMMERCE EASTER PARADE AND EGG HUNT ON APRIL 8 Commerce will host its annual Eas ter parade and egg hunt on Saturday. April 8, beginning at 10:30 a.m. “Gear up kids with your best dec orated bikes, trikes, wagons and bat tery-operated vehicles, it’s time for the Easter Parade,” town leaders said. The parade will begin at Spencer Park and will end with the egg hunt at First Baptist Church of Commerce. JEFFERSON EASTER EGG HUNT ON APRIL 8 The Jefferson Community Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 8, from 9 a.m. to noon. The egg hunt begins at 11 a.m. and is for children from toddler-age through 12 years old. Bring your blanket and enjoy a picnic breakfast. You can purchase breakfast from the Chick-hl-A food truck. Free pancakes will also be available. Children can visit the Easter bunny, ride the train, play on bouncy houses and enjoy crafts, face painting, cookie decorating, a petting zoo and more. This event is held by the Rotary Club of Jefferson, Church on the Hill, Southside Church and the City of Jef ferson. HOSCHTON EASTER EGG-STRAVAGANZA APRIL 8 Hoschton will host an Easter Egg-Stravaganza on Saturday, April 8, from 2-5 p.m. on the Hoschton de pot lawn. There will be an egg hunt, barbe cue, a bunny photobooth, arts and crafts, golden eggs and live music.
