J'JHN M'JFFAT. GENERAL REMARKS RELATIVE TO .MO.’FA l"S LIFE PILLS AND PIIOSNIX BITTERS. 'These medicines have lonz been known an for their extraordinary and immediate powers of restoring perfect ncalth to persons suffering u <:er ne..i !y every kind of disease to which the human frame is lia.de. In many hundreds of certificated instances they have even rescued sufferers from the very verge es an untimely grave, after all the deceptive nostrums of/ie day had utterly tailed; and to many thousands the have permanently secured that uniform enjoy ment of health, without which life itselt is but a partial blessing. So great, indeed, lias their efficacy invariably and infallibly proved, that it has appeared scan ely less than miraculous to those who were unac quainted with the beaiitituiiy philosophical principles upon which they, are compoun ded, and upon which they consequently act. It was to their manifest and sensible action in purifying the springs and channels of life, and enduing them with renewed tone and vigor, that they were indebted for their name, which was bestowed upon them at the spontaneous request es several individuals whose lives they had tibviously saved. The proprietor rejoices in tho opportuni ty allotded by the universal diffusion of the uaily press for placeing his VEGETABLE LIFE FILLS within the knowledge and reach of every indivi Inal in the com nunity. Uni.lie tlis host of pmiieious quackeries, which boast of vcge’able ingredients, the Life Fids are purely and solely vegetable, md contain neither Mercury, Antimony, Vrsnic, nor any mineral whatever. They are entirely composed of extracts from rare and powerful plants, the virtues of which, though long known to several Indian tribes, and re cently to some eminent pharmaceutical chemists, are altogether unknown to the ig norant pretenders to medical sci nee; and were never before administered in so happi ly efficacious a combination. Their first operation is to loosen from the coats of the stomach and bowels, the various impurities and crudities constantly setting a round them; and to remove the hardened fteces which collect in the convolutions of the small intestines. Other medicines only par tially cleanse these, and leave such collected masses behind, as to produce habitual cos tiveness with all its train of evils, or sud lendiarrhxa, with its imminent dangi fa.— This fact 13 well known to all regular atiut unists, who examine the hum in bowels af ter death ; and hence the prejudice ol these v» 1 informed men against the quack medi cines of the age, Tlie second eliect ot the VEGETABLE LIFE PILLS ixtocleanse he kidneys ane the bladder, and bv this means, the liver and the lun«a r tuc neaUm’u.i action of which enti ely depends upon the regularity of the urinary organs. The blood, which takes its red cn.er from the agency of the liver and the lungs before it passes into the heart, being thus purified by iltem, a » nourished by loud coming trom iclean stomach, courses freely through tin veins, renews every part of the system, and riumphantly mounts the banner of healthy in the blooming cheek. Tlie following are among the distressing ■ariety of human diseases, to which tlie Ve •et ihle Life Pills are well known to be iu allible: DYSPEPSIA, by thoroughly cleansing Tie fir-t and second .stomachs, and creating 1 (low or of pure healthy bile, instead ot ’lie stale and acrid kind:— Flatulency, Ful >itation of the Heart Loss of appetite, Heart '>lira and llead-ache. Restlessness, 111-temper , lux' rt 1 Languor, and ! \T/lanrholly. which ire t e general fvmtnmsnf Dyspepsia, will vanish, as a natural consequence of its cure. Costivsness, by cleansing the whole length of the intestines with a solvent process and without violence ; all violent purges leave the bowels costive within two days, Diarrkaa and Choleta, by removing the sharp acrid fluids by which t’aese complaints arc occa sioned, and by promoting the lucrative se cretion of the muons inoitinrane Fevers oj all kinds by restoring the b ood to a reg ular circa...non, through the process of per spirotiou in some cases, and the thorough solution of all intestinal obstructions in oth ers. The LIFE PILLS have bean known to cure Rheumatism permanently in three weeks, a a I (la it in half that lime, by remov ing local iti.l iiMin ifiou from the muscles, and ligaments ofthe joints. Dropsies of all kinds, by freeing and strengthening the kid neys and bladder ; they operate most de lightfully on theso important organs and hence have ever been found a certain remedy for the worst cases of Gravel. Also, I Worms, bv dislodging from the turnings ofthe bow els the slimy matter to which these crea tures adhere; Asthma and consumption, by relieving the air vessels of tho lungs from tho mucus, which even slight colds will •iCcason, which if uot removed hccomes har dened, an I produces those dreadful diseas es. Sc it r vey. Ulcers, and Inverterate Sores, by the perfect purity which these Life Pil's give to tlie blood, and all the humors; Scorbutic Eruptions, and, Bad Complexions, by their alterative effect upon the fluids that feed the skin, the morbid state of which oc casions all Eruptive complaints, Salow, Clou dy and other disagreeable Complexions. — Tho use of these Pills for a very short time, will effect an entire cure of Salt rheum. Erysipelas, and a striking improvement in tlie Clearness of the skin. Common Coldsand Influenza will always becured by one dose, or by two. even in the worst cases. Piles, —as a remedy for this most distressing and malady, the Vegetable Life Pills deserve a distinct r.nd emphatic re commendation. It is known to hun dreds m this city, that tho Proprietor of these invaluable Pills, was himself alfiict eil with this complaint for upwards ot thir ty-Jive years, autl tliat he tried iu vaiu every reilicUj prescribed within the whole com pass ol l tie Materia Medica. He however, at length, tried the medicine which he now oilers to the public and he was cured in a very short time, alter his recovery had been prouuuneed not only improbable, but abso lutely imposiule by any human means. Direction for use.—The Pro pne'or ol the Vegetable Life Fills does not follow the base and mercenary practice ol the quacks of the day, in advising persons io take his I’iils in large quantities. No good medicine cau possibly be so required. These Fills art to he taken at bed time every night, for a week or fortnight, according to ihe obstinacy of the disease. The usual dase is from 'J too, according to the coiisti ution cl the person. \ eiy delicate per sons should begin with but two, and in crease as the nature of the case m*y require; t lose more robust, or ol ve y costive liabit, may begin with 3, and increase to 4 or even 5 Rills, and they will effect a sufficiently happy change to guide the patient in their further use. These Pills sometimes occa sion sickne«3 and vomiting though very sel dom unless the stornai h is very foul; this however may be considered favorable sff m piont. as the patient will <nd himself it once relieved, and by perseverance will soon recover. They usually operate within 10 or 12 hours and never give pain, unless the bowels arc very much eji umbered.— They may be taken by the most delicate fc males under any circumstance!. — It in hoi - ever recoin men led, that tno.sem later pei riods of pregnancy should take but one at a time, and thus continue to keep the bowels open, and even two may be taken where the patient is very costive. Oiie pdl c.i a solu tion ol two table spoons full ol water, may be given to an infill', in the following dost* —a tea spoon full every two hours till * oj - er tes; fora child from one to live yetrs of age, half a pill—and front live to tei* one pill. THE PHCENIX BITTF.RS, are s< cal led, because they possess the power «f re storing the expiring embers ol health, to a Mowing vigor throughout th" constitution, as the Fhteuix is said to be re-to ed jo life from the ashes of its own dissolution. The Fhocuix Bitters are entirely vegetable, com posed of roots found only in certain paps of the western countrv, which will in fajlibly cure FEVERS AND AGUESof all kinds; will never fail to eradicate entirely all the ef fects of Mercury, infiuitely sooner than the most powerful preparations of Sarsaparilla, ad will immediately cure the deicrnination of BLOOD TO THE HEAD . never fail i.i the sickness incident to youvnft rnaln and will be found a certain remedy in all cases of aer vous deWity and ucaknrss of the most im paired constitutions. Asa remedy for Chro nicand Inflammatory Rheumatism the effica cy of the Phoenix Btiters will be demonstra te.] by tlie use of a single bot'le. The leu d dose of these bitters is linlf a wiuo glass full, iu water or wine, and this quantity be takeu two or three time a day, about half an hour before meals, or a less quantity iray be taken a all times. To those who are ifflicted with indigestion after meals, th«se Bitters will prove iu valuable, as they vary •reatly increase the action of the principal viscera, help them to perform their func tions. and enable the stomach to dischatge into the bowels whatever is offensive. Titus indigestion is easily and speedily removed appetite restored and the months ofthe ab sorbent vessels being oleased nutrition is fa cilitated, and strength of body and energy of mind are the happy results.
