Remarkable Discovery in Virginia.
A letter in the Richmond Times states
that a few days ago, while several men
were engaged in blasting out limistono
near Buchanan, Botetourt county, they
discovered a cave, with an entrance of |
some six or eight feet in height, and
i upwards of one hundred long, with two
j apartments. In the first they found
| some earthen ware and a large stone
i e:oss; on the cross there was sort) * caf
i ving, but was so much defected by the
j hand of time that it was scarcely’ his
oernible. A number of citizens, with
| a lantern, subsequently entered the sec
j ond apartment, where they found a sk<d-
I eton seated on a huge iron chest, with
its back resting against the wall.
On opening this chest tbev found it
to contain gold coin, perfectly smooth

Good Sale of Cotton —We are in
fumed that a crop lot of Cotton, eighty
seven hales, ii longing to Greene
Moore, Ksq , of Greene County, >vas
sold yesterday at 8A cents.
In publishing this sale, we take oe
! casion to remark, that it is no criterion
of the value of Coiton in this market.
It was an extra line fancy article, with
n hicli unusual pains had been taken in
the handling and putting up. We state
this to prevent our planting friends from
supposing that every lot of line Cotton
will bring the above price. It would
mislead our readers to publish such
sales without this explanation. We
doubt the policy of doing it at all, as it
100 often has the eff-ct of dissatisfying
planters who get less for their C tton,
and who think timir’s should command
the highest m trket price.— Caiisl/tution-
