To A. 1,.
From tin* tirot time I saw thee,
Wh.it anjriii-.il and pain
Affected my heart
And troubled uiy bruin I
It is not Uiy beauty
That inflicted the pain,
Northy glossy black hair
That troubled my brain.
Rut that nobis talent,
Which all cannot claim,
Captivated my heart,
And set love on a flame.
Should we be separated
For ever to remain,
I shall always remember,
And still be the same.
Forget thee, I will not,
No, never 1 tiiy nnmo
Ingravod on my heart,
Shall always remain.
Reuben and iPlurha.
A PATHETIC At, ItALLAD—->HT MR. K. K. BLIE- j
KINS.
In Manchester a maiden dwelt,
Her name was I’lneha Urown;
Her cheeks were red, her hair was black, |
And she was considered by good judg
es, to bo by all odds the best looking girl j
in town.
Her age was Hourly seventeen;
Her eyes was sparkling bright—
Avery lovely girl she was,
And for about a year and half there had
been a young man paying attention to her, j
by the name of Reuben Wright.
Now Reuben was a nice young man
As any in the town,
And l’hiuba loved him very dear,
Hut on account of his being obliged to j
work for a living, he never could make him-1
self agreeable to old Mr. and Mrs. Urown.
Her parents were resolved
Another she should wed,
A rich old miser in the place;
And old Brown frequently declared
that rather than have his daughter marry
Reuben Wright, he’d knock her in the head.!
But Fhocba’s heart was brave and strong,
She feared not parents’ frowns,
And ns for Reuben Wright, so bold,
I’ve heard him say more than titty times, J
that, (with the exception of I’leeba,) lie j
did’nt care a for the whole race of
Browns.
.So l’lueba Brown and Reuben Wright
Determined they would marry:—
Three weeks ago last Tuesday night,
They started for old Parson Webster’s,
determined to be united in the holy hands
of matrimony, although it was tremendous
ly dark, and rained like the Old Harry.

Cure fora Cancer. —The Franklin |
(Tenn.) Review says that Mr. George:
Rennet, of Williamson county, cured
himself of a cancer on the nose with
which lie had suffered intensely for
years, hy the following simple process;
He procured about a peck of clean
Red oak hark, by first cutting oIF the
rough out-side, and put if into a vessel;
containing about two gallons of water!
! wlpeli he boiled over a slow fire until j
I the ooze became quito strong, when he
; strained it through a cloth to remove j
all the particles of the bark. Then lie |
again put it into the clean vessel and I
simmered it over a slow firo till it came ;
to the consistency of molasses, when it j
is fit for use. Jt is then spread upon u
piece of silk or other soft rag, and ap
npplied to the diseased part. He used
about two fresli plasters every week,
until tho cancer was removed and the
wound healed. Ho says it is not pain
ful, but btli . .-j it an iiifillible remedy.
Cure for Toothache. —Mr. James
Bcatson of Airdrie, says:—Gum Copal, 1
when dissolved in cldoriform, forms an
! excellent compound for stulling the
i holes of decayed teeth. I have used it
j very frequently, ntid tho benefit my pa- s
I licuts have derived from it has been
| truly astonishing. The application is I
| simple and easy. I cleanout tho hole, j
j and moisten a little cotton w ith the solu-

! pan, and in every instance the relief!
j lias been most instantaneous. The I
chloroform removes the pain, arid the

vh; and as tho application is so ngree
j able, those who may labor under this;
; dreadful malady would do well to make j
, a trial of it.

sects in diseases ot the Liver, and diseases
arising from an impure state of the Blood,
prove it to be the purest and most useful prepar
ation of Sarsaparilla that is made.
Those who have used the various prepara
tions of Sarsaparilla will find, by the taste and j
effect, that there is more Sarsaparilla in one I
bottle of Dr. D’s. preparation, than in halt a j
dozen bottlesas it is generally made.
That it might be more particularly adapted
to professional use, nothing but the pure Sarsa
parilla has been used, that for different disea

it, such articles as they might consider most
appropriate in cases under their treatment.
Its alterative and mildly purgative eflect
