Whereas, death has again invaded our
ranks and borne from our midst one highly
respected. It becomes our painful duty to
record the death of Mrs. Luct Johnson, the
companion of our beloved bro. Howard 11.
Jolison. Sac departed this life on the night
of lfitli of Sept. last. The terror of man
summoned her to try tiie realities of anoth
er world in tiie vigor of youth, and the com- ‘
mencemcnt. of her usefulness. Silo lias left, j
her husband and children with tunny friends I
to mourn her loss. Tiie hum lay ol'iier de
meanor, the integrity of her piitieiplos, the i
• frankness of Iter character, and the gene- j
rushy ot her nature, won for her the love, 1
respect and confidence ot all who knew her.
In her conduct, she wan indeed courteous !
i and affable;--asa mother, she was tender,!
|as a wife all', ctionatc, and a3 a friend, fa tit- !
ful and uniform, always exhibiting those
I high, moral principles which should ever
govern all Christians. These virtues she:
adorned in her brief career which furnish to
those with whom site associated an ex
ample worthy of imitation. She manifest
ed in her last moments a nobility of soul bv
| exhibiting that courage, confidence and re
signation worthy of tiie religion which site
professed.
Resolved, therefore, That whilst we cannot
refrain from expressions of deep regret at
tins melancholy ‘event, yet it is the duty of
! man to bow in humble submission to the
dispensation of divine Providence, however
mysterious and painful they may appear.
Resolved , That in the death of Mrs. John
son Iter relations, the community in which
! site resided, and the church of which site was
i a consistent nteinbbr, have sustained an irre
parable loss.
Resolved, That we tender to bro. Johnson
; and those relatives, our paternal sympathy
and condoh nee in this great bereavement.
Resolved, That a copy of iliis preamble
’ arid resolutions be spread on tiie minut -s of
| this Division, and that a copy bo sent to
bro. Johnson in token of respect.
