Mr. Webster died ut two minutes be- j

His family and friends were ut his
bedside. He was fully conscious of
his situation, and his intellect was un
clouded, so much so that he nta lo up
a despatch for his Department at Wash
ington on Thursday, His disease was
inflammation oftho bowels.
At ten o’clock on Saturday night,
be parted with his family and fiiends,
and prayed loud ands, rvently, calling j
on God to forgive his sins, through the
merits of Jesus Christ. He closed all
his private affairs, and died expressing
great resignation. His lust moments i
jAKeth so calm that he seemed to have;
fallen asleep.

on Saturday the purpose of the Pliila-!
delpliia ami Baltimore Railroad Com
pany to Cover the ground of their track I
with gravel, in order to obviate the j
annoyance of dust We have since
been informed, as the result of exper
iment elsewhere, that such an appli
ance is not ve. v reliable for the pur
p ise, hut that a thin cml mg of Oyster
shells, laid as lar as possible with tim
outside up, is a nearly complete reme
dy. Hooting slates answer still better;
hit for the railroa l in question oyster
snells are very accessible, while slates
are not. With such a covering to the
~ i
ground, and attention paid to the due;
sweeping uiid during of die cars, and |
baaiing of the (1 >or mat—natters eith
er neglected altogether or but imper
fectly attended to in America—after
each trip, this grievous annoyance to i
passengers would cease, or at least he j
Vistly abated.— Bah.. Sun.

venuM a method f>r preventing great j
damages by railroad collisions. I'he j
idea is to have the ends of the cur and j
plaiforms built ui’!i one corner projec- !
ting far beyond llie other, diagonally,
instead of uquare. Accordingly, when
they come together with great violence,!
the force, of the shook will be relieved, |
and itie cars instead ot breaking to pie- |
ces, wilt si nply shove each other off,
the track, lo the projecting comer the j
brakesman is to stand, where in case I
of a collision, he will be comparatively ;
free Irum danger.
Indigestion. —Among the papers read 1
at the lust silting of the Academy ol
Sciences at Paris, was one by M. Cor- ,
visart, the great nephew of the cele-1
brated man ot that name, on die ini-,
provement of the digestion of persons of
weak stomachs by die use ot the gas
tric juice taken from animals. A great
deal lias been sai l and written on this
subject, hut as yet we have very few,
if unv, proots ot the efficacy of the
means as a general plan of treatment,
although there may have been cases in
which the gastric juice taken from the
bodies of slaughtered domestic ani
mals may have been used by man
with temporary advantage. Nor does
M. Corvisart furnish any practical
proofs of die correctness ot his theory.
He contents himself with discussioiu
hut appears to have no doubt in Ins'cMm
mind that indigestion in the human
stomach arises entirely from the want
of a sufficient quantity of gastric juice,
and that if the deficiency were suppli
ed from the sources of which he speaks,
the digestion would he perfect. As
this gastric juice, it) its natural stale,
is of a tase and appearance which
would be repulsive lo most patients, M.
Corvisart has proposed dial it
reduced to the state of powdelfTTßfPr
Vc., and mixed with the aliments.
Two marriages occured in Cincinna
ti a week or two ago, at one ot w hich
the husband was fifteen, and me wiie
fourteen years old. Ihe other couple
were aged respectively sixteen and
fifteen years. Wonder if these pre
cocious juveniles had “mothers.” If
they had, they should make them know
better than plunge them into matrimo
nial troubles at an age when spelling
books, grammars, &c., should he in
their hauds.

At a called meeting of Morning Star
j Lodge, No. 27, of Free and accepted Masons,
the following Preamble and Resolutions
1 Were presented by Bro. Ansel T Shaekel
j ford and uuanimousiy adopted :
j Whereas, it has pleased the Great Archi
; tect of the Universe in the dispensaiion of
! his All-wise Providence, to remove Irom us
! our highly'esteemed and much beloved bro
; tiler, John W. Lowe, who deponed this
j life on the Bth inst., aged 23 years and 10
! days.
Although cut down in the prime of life,
; and the midst of usefulness, lie gave very
j satisfactory evidence of a well-grounded
I hope of eternal life beyond the grave,
through the atoning sacrifice and woriliy
I merits of a crucified Saviour. Hence, we
| are happy in believing tb it lie has been
; called Iroui the perishable objects of this
j world to the enjoyment of the saints in ever
| lasting rest; and that although his earthly
| house ot this tabernacle is dissolved, lie lias
j a building of God, a house not made with
j bands, eternal in the Heavens. Therefore,
!we would submissively bow with liumble
| resignation to thy Providence, oh ! God that
j through thy uiercy, our loss is his eternal
gain.
; Our brother while on his death-bed, bore
; testimony to the tact, that our beloved Or
of high-lie iven, and
asonry is to Religion.
He then stated that his heart was first awa
i kened to a sense of bis lost condition, with
j out application of the atoning merits of a
| crucified Redeemer, while listening to the
instruction laugut m the Lodge-Room, lie
has left a food lather, a beloved sister, nu
merous friends, and an affectionate wife, to

j united, by tbe sacred tie <d conjugal atfec- j

In the death of our brother, tae chain by
which we were united man to man, has been !

■ for his memory, demands an expression ot |
