sl)f Sout&un ijrtalii. Georgia, Augu»C 23, 1860. The Daily Herald. In vie* of the approaching business sea job and the growing business interests of the City of Griffin, the undersigned have determined to commence publishing a daily pper, the first number of which will appear the Ist day of September. This being an enterprise in wh’ch ali the citixens of this city and the surrounding eeuDtry, are vitally interested, we shall ex pect a warm and cordial support; indeed it ~ w jth them td say, whether or not they will keep up and sustain a daily paper. As an advertising medium, it is our in tention to make it the very best that the situation will allow In order to place it within the reach of \ll parties, the daily will be published at the Exceedingly low price of six dollars a year. Those wishing to subscribe for the daily will blease forward their names with the subscrip tion price. D. N. MARTIN, J. J. EAGAN. Election Next Saturday, The voting population of Griffin will bear it in mind that an election for one Alderman will be held day after tomorrow, (Saturday) at the Council Chamber. Mr. Hardy Cunningham, we learn, has consented to serve, if elected. Every body knows he would make an excellent officer. At the same time the voters of the city will vote on the subject of a special tax being levied for the purpose of fitting out the Fire Department. Read anew the advertisement headed "Election Notice,” 1 liailroud Meeting. We published last week that “there will he a grand Railroad Mas, Meeting held at the city of Griffin, on Thursday, the 30th day of August.” Since that call was issued, it has teen decided best to extend the time still longer, and by refer ence to our advertising columns it will he seen that the 13th of September is the day fixed upon. Everybody must recollect this, and c* me up brave!;, and do brave work. If you dillysdally now. and poke up, and poke around, as if there were no life in you, nor hope, nor energy, nor any aort of inciting rim, you will fail to build your road, and Griffin will he left out in the cold, to abiver, and shrink away, and at last, as far as the mere town, the wood, iron, brick, stone, and mor tar, is concerned. go finally to the dog-, a place for the o*l and tiie bat, tile this; lc and the briar Parade. —Griffin Fire Company, No. 1 paraded Saturday evening last, and gave us an exhibition of what they could do in case their services were needed. Streams of water were thrown to a considi Table height and distance, giving the assurance tit at there w..s no liiek of imttcle or will m the organisa tion. One or two incidents of rather an amusing natsre, occurred—a gentleman) in the habi l Ct indulging in something “ and y so,’’ was induced through instrumentality of the noz zlc-holder?, to have it considerably “ mixed ” this lime with something rare, to him, — water. Ihe effect w' did not learn. Sabbath Scimoi. Concert — We arc requested io announce, ami tike pleasure in SO d-jitig, that, tiro teachers and scholars nt the Methodist Sabbath School—under the direction us Mr. E.
