These was an election held id tfiis city fan Wednesday Inst, In accordance frith our Charter for Mayor and Board df Aldermen. The turnout was email, owing io the fact that the eleotion waa held in epite of the reoent action, of tha Mayor, who at the re queet of a meeting of citizens, issued an order postponing the election until the meeting of the neit Legislature, when it wae expected thfat fan act would be passed conforming our tih&rter to the new Cos nsti tution. The ciindidatee who ran on Wednesday were Mr. George it. Johnson, 001. ThutS mao, Adatfi W. Jones and Judge Miokle. berry. The vfatee polled were a little over four hundred; or abont one-third the vo ters of the bltjr. Mr. Johnson reoeived the highest vbtfe. Col. It ib understood that the present Mayor will not surrender the city government to Mr. Johnson, until the notion of the Courts or Legislature shall depose bind from offioe. We express no opinion upon the mbriti of the controversy, at present. The present Mayor and Counoil are good men, and so are those reoently elected, —some of whom! fare on the new hoard.
