-DOCTOR" DUVALL,
on account or t:ib wifb poisoner await
ISO TRIAL AT JAMB3VH.UC, WIS.
Dr. Duvall is the man who figured
BO conspicuously last fall in the city
of Owatonna. His manner of treat
ment was not by medieines but by
manipulation or stroking the affected
part with the hands, and in this way
ho adveti.scd to cure diseases of all
dcsoriptions. Atter he had been
there for nearly three weeks the bus
iness men were satisfied that ho was
an imposter and a scoundrel of the
blackest dye, whereupon some seven
enty-fivo of the leading men of the
city signed a request asking him to
leave, as they were satisfied that he
was obtaining money under false pre
tenses. After the publication of this
request, with the names attached, in
the Owatonna Journal, a division
arose with regard to the matter.—
Those easily duped and the marvel
ous, on the side of Dnvall, and the
intelligent and soutid-mindcd against
him. A few days after this ho left
the Arnold House and took up lodg
ings at the house of Mr. Sterling as
they were his warmest friends, prob
tibly from two causes : one through
sympathy other from a cure
said to have LMR effected hy him on
Mrs. Sterling. 110 stayed there some
two or three weeks, and then mar
ried a sister of Mrs. Sterling, who
was living with her at the time. —
Soon after this they- left l'or Roches
ter, and practiced there his humbug
gory for a number of weeks, and
then left for some other towns easter-
ly-
The first wo heard of him after
leaving Rochester was at Janesville,
Wisconsin, which was about the Ist
of April. After being at the public
house for a few days ho and wife re
tired for tho night ns usual, well anti
in good spirits. About 2 o’clock a.
m. Tic gave the alarm that his wife
was very sick, and on going into his
room she lay in her bed cold and
dead. There being suspicions of
something wrong the citizens con
cluded that they would take out the
stomach and send it to Chicago for cx%
amination, and the chemists reported
hick that largo quantities of strych
nine were found in it and some in par
ticles that were not yet dissolved.—
Duvall was then arrested and lodged
in jail. Some two weeks ago tho
grand jury found a bill of indictment
against him for murder, and lie wns
brought into court and pleaded not
guilty. The case was then laid over
for trial at the next court for Rock
county, and he remanded to jail.
Since his confinement we learn that
this is his fifth wife, and all the oth
® s have died in the same mysterious
manner. It is reported that his oth
er wives are to be disinterred and
their stomachs examined.—Northfiold
(Minn.) Enterprise.
In an article on the canvass,
the Nashville Banner says: “So far
as this journal is concerned, we ana
nounce at the outset that we shall
not be guilty of the am of encourag
ing demagogues, even on our own
side of the question, by occupying
our columns with their platitudes
ami commonplaces.” Avery sensi
ble conclusion, to which all our jour
nalists should come, and upon which
they should act. The office of every
leading political journal is constantly
inundated with the frothings of aspi
rants for fame who never possessed a
compact idea of their own, and are un
able to intelligently rehash those of
others. Nearly all these genuines who
suffer from cacoethes scribenJi are
chronic office-seekers, and their patri
otism is self. If one of them shows
any activity in canvasses, in nine
times out of ten his blunders injure
the party, and ten times out of ten ho
anticipates an office as the reward of
his Herculean labors. The patriotic
office-seeker of this class is not hem
med in by State lines. No pent-up
L : t i c a bottles his aspirations
and interrupts the flow of his ink.
He is indigenous to every soil aud
every climate, flourishing alike in the
high latitudes and the tropics. He is
ever and always the same, rushing to
the front, protuse of perspiration, and
enveloped in his manuscript, vflth his
hair flying to the breeze, and his
soul yearning for office— not because
In wants it—Ac never wants office—
but simply to save the country. His
absorbing idea, next to running for
office, is that the wretched English
and worse logic sent to poor suffering
editors, who arc expeoted to read and
print it, is the key-note of a cam
paign, und that no editor should pro%
nnuncc upon a question until the
manuscript mountain had been cxamr>
ined and inspiration drawn from its
feast of reason and flow of soul. On
ly those “inside’’ of journalism can
understand and appreciate the extent
to which these key-note blusters and
editorial instructors carry their luna
cy. The Banner’s paragraph is just
to the point, and if the rule laid down
be enforced, its readers should be wil
ling in future to pay double the price
of their subscription.—Memphis Av
alanche.
BGL. Commodore Nutt and Miss
Minnie Warren were married at West
Haven, Connecticut, on Thursday.

disordered and will cure any irregularity in the “men
ses,** except in soeh esses as require a surgical opera
tion. As t >e*e h&t are very rare, the Kama lx Regu
lator is of almost tmlvers*vT application. Ia a sudden
cheek of the ’’monthly courses’* from cold, trouble of
mind or like cause, it act a like a charm by bwiobixg
tor Discii aeg r in evkey instanck, thus relieving the
fever, headache, nain in the small of the back and ’low
er stomach,'* flushes of heat about the face, chilly sen
sations, burning of the eyelids and #sneral restlessness.
Taken in time, all these symptoms pass away immedi
ately, without injury to the constitution. Frequently,
however, the proper remedy is not applied in time, the
disease becomes chronic, aqd the foundation laid for
numberless evils to the constitution of the woman.—
The next “turn” comes around, and there is no -show,”
or perhaps the “whites'* will appear. Thera will be
some uneasiness about the womb, but very little or
none of the natural fluid escaping. The complexion
becomes sallow, bowels swollen, a sort of greenish
caste about tho face, constant dull aching pains in the
head, weight in the lower stomach and Back, with or
without whites, palpitotions of the heart, pallor, ex
haustion, indigestion, weariness, languor, an aching
across the loins, loss of appetite, pain in left breast,
tightness across the chest, cough and giddiness. If
fctiil allowed- to gp on, “green sickness** will be fully
developed—the nekdaehe becomes severe, with loss of
mtmory, diminishing sensibility, bice stomach, dyspep
sia, no relish for food, loss of flesh, increased fluttering
of the heart, swelling or tub feet, legs and body and
occasional spitting of blood. The slightest effort cau
ses hurried liKKATiiiMG, almost suffocation. The akin
is flabby and a “doughy feel.” This is a sad picture,
but it is- the condition of thousands of women between
the ages of 15 and 45, who are brought to the verge of
the grave by Ignorance or neglect to lake the proper
remedy. To all wha are afflicted with any < f the symp
toms above mentioned, lu connection with an irregu
larity of the “monthly sickness, '* we earnestly eav—

prudent, and in every case more certain to
cure, if its use is continued in a Mailer do

been checked, more especially in difficult
and long standing cases. Usually,
medicine will not require any aid to keep*
