Deafness Cannot he Cured
by local applications as they cannot reach
the diseased portion oi the ear. There is
only one way to cure deafness, and that is
by constitutional remedies. Deafness is
caused by an inflamed condition of the
mucous lining <>t the Eustachian Tube.
When this tube is inflamed you have a
rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and
when it is entirely closed, deafness is
the result, and unless the inflammation
can be taken out and this tube restored to
its normal condition, hearing will be de
stroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are
caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but
an inflamed condition of the mucous sur
faces.
We will give One Hundred Dollars for
any case of .Deafness (caused by catarrh)
that cannot lie cured by Hall’s Catarrh
Cure. Send tor circulars; free.

Pitts Carminative is pleasant to the
taste, acts promptly, and never fails to

value. E. H. Dorsey, Athens, Ga., writes :

Washington, May 12—The indus
trial commission will enter upon an
extended investigation of the subject
of trade combinations or trusts. The
inquiry will be carried out under the
plan of Prof. J. W. Jenks, of Ithaca,
who has spent much time in its i repa
ra .ion.
The first witness examined was
State Senator Lee of Pittsburg, who
gave bis testimony today. The com
mission has decided to defer the ex
amination es John D. Rockefeller, head
of the Standard Oil Company, and o*
William T. Wardwell, its treasurer,
i who were to have been present in May,
until the June meeting. This was
! done in compliance with their own
request.
On Friday, May 12, the commission
may be forced to hold a night meeting,
owing to the fact that two witnesses
have been summoned for that day.
One of these is Henry O. Havemeyer,
head of what is known as the Sugar
Trust, aid the other is James 11. Post,
a New York factor. Two witnesses
have been requested to appear on Sat
urday, John Arbuckle, the coffee mer
chant, and C. C. Clarke, of Peoria, a
distiller.
On May 15 Gen. John MeNulta, of
Chicago, is to tell what be knows of
the sc-called Whiskey Trust, He was
the receiver of the old company and
had most to do with turning the or
ganization over into the hands of the
present managers. F. S Monnett, at
torney genera! of Ohio, will take the
stand on May Hi. Wednesday, May
17, S. M. It'ce, who is stated to be the
the present whiskey syndicate,
is to appear. The next two days, May
IS and 19, will bo given up to taking
j the testimony of two New York dis
l tillers or importers, who are said to
have suffered as the result of the for
tnaticn of the whisky syndicate.

HOW TO FIND OUT.
Fill a bottle or common glass with your
wa' r and let it stand tweuty-four hours ;
a sediment or settling indicates an unheal
thy condition of the kidneys; if it stains
your linen it is evidence of kidney trouble;
too frequent desire to pass it or pain in the
back is also convincing proof that thekid-
I ney.- and bladder are out of order.
1 What to Do.
There is comfort in the knowledge soof-
I ten expressed, that Dr. Kilmer’s Swamp-
Root, the great kidney remedy, fulfills ev
-1 ery wish in curing rheumatism, pain in
the back, kidneys, liver, bladder and every
part of the urinary passages. It corrects
Inability to hold water and scalding pain
in passing it, or bad effects following use
of liquor, wine or beer, and overcomes that
unpleasant necessity of being compelled
to go often during the day, and to get up
many times during the night. The mild
and the extraordinary effect of- Swamp-
Root is soon realized. It stands the high
■ est for its wonderful cures of the most dis-
I tressing cases. If you need a medicine you
should have the best. At druggists fifty
i cents or one dollar.
! You may have a sample bottle and a
i book that tells more about it, both sent
' absolutely free by mail, if you send your
address to Dr. Kilmer & Co., Bingham
i ton, N. Y. W hen writing be sure and
i mention that you read this generous offer
