Deafness is caused by an inflamed condition of the mucous lining of the Eusta. liian Tube. When this tube is inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect bearing, and when it is entirely closed, deafness is the result, and unless the inflammation can be taken out and this tu' r> need t> its normal condition, hearing will be de stroyed forever; nine cases out oi ten are caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mucous sur faces. Nall, Cleik and Treasurer, I A WOMAN YOU CAN’T SNUB. V.-iir Trirti- With n Skinny Woman if tier Face Shines. I >■» you know who i i the most exas l„ rating woman in the world? The wo man you can’t snub. She is two kinds ■ tlie meek and lowly sort, that when run smite her turns the other cheek un til you're positively t,.0 tired todeal her another blow, and the one whose self importance is invulnerable as Achilles’ heel. I met one f the last kind early in the winter. On neral principles I would avoid this v. oman, because she’s skinny and her face shines. Something is all wrong about a skinny woman ; one way or another she’s dangerous. When a skinny woman’s face shines, it means she’s above using powder and is sure to make a parade, as a virtue, of the very wrong that is to account for the lack of flesh on her bones. I couldn’t help the woman calling on me, and I returned her first call rather than run the risk of what she might do to me if 1 violated this fundamental principle of right social action as prescribed by ev ery etiquette book in the land. When she called a second time, she addressed me as “my good woman.” I can for give almost anything but being called a good woman. Only a menial or medi ocrity past 40 is properly termed a good woman. I resolved to snub tins crea ture, and I wanted her to know I was snubbing her. 1 would never return her visit —never. And how do you suppose she takes it? Every time she sees me she apologizes to me for not having re turned my visit—blots my intended neglect of her out of mind and patron izes me with the assumption that it is she who is neglecting me. Mark the wisdom I have uttered. Never trifle with a skinny woman if her face shines. —Washington Star. DROWNED InTyNDON LAKE. A Negro Boy Loses His Life This Afternoon While Bathing'. Several people were on the opposite bank of the lake but could not reach the struggling boy and were horror stricken as they saw him rise and heard his pitL us appeals for help Before nnyont c.-uld reach the negro he sank to rise no more until bis life less body is brought to the surface with grappling hook-. His companion fl d in terror to the city and reported the sfTair to the dead boy’s relatives. The following weekly crop bulletin has been issued from the weather bureau in Atlanta : ‘ Dry and num weather I >s pre vailed over most of the state during the past week, enabling general farm work to bo pushed uninterruptedly. Crops are clean and in excellent grow ing condition, but need occasional showers. The warm nights have been especial y favorable tn the growth of cotton and corn. Oats seem to have suffered most seriou- y from the pro tracted dry spell Wheat is hiajing in many ■ f the mid 1 anil s< u'hern c until'- and will so >n be r- t !y to harvest in wine of the southern e .tin te? Ait.iT tii cial -ide i f lif. in the Spanish capital ha-in- me ; it< nov elty there are always the collections to see and admire And, after all, the crowning glory of the place is the Mnseo del Prado, which, if not the finest in Europe, at least ranks with the Louvre and the galleries of Dresden and Flor ence, says a correspondent in the Chi cago Record. The gallery is especially rich in portraits of the great kings of Spain, and its chief treasures are the works of Diego Valasqnez, some 60 in number. The light of the gallery itself is perhaps poor, but the charm of being able to walk undisturbed and never crowded amid this marvelous collection of workshy the master- is enough of it self to repay a visit to Spain. The royal collection of armor at the palace is as interesting as the Prado pictures, in a way, and after these collections come others less notable, but worthy of a great capital.
