Mr. I’. H. Baker, of Tennessee. Weds a Popular Georgia Lady. While t.ot unexpected after tbe prolonged presence of Mr. Baker, in Gr.rtin, his marriage to Miss Bealle F. Jennings, a school teacher in this city from Barnesville, created quite a ripple of excitement because of the known opposition of her parents. This opposition was political and not personal, as Mr. Thomas H. Baker, editor of the Tennessee Republican, of Huntingdon, Tenn.,is a gentleman of tho highest character and ability. Miss Jeunings has been the most pop alar and tfficient teacher in tbe Grif fin public school, as well as a belle in the society of the place, and has such charms of person and character ns tender her departure a most seri oils loss lo Griffin. All feeling, every net of the will, every time the eve or my other sense is exercise*! and : . iterations of all the organs of the body—every movement <>f a limb, every word tliat is spoken, is due to the action of the brain. It therefore stands in the place of a machine, but in¬ stead of deriving its force from foreign material used as fuel it consumes it3 own substance, which during sleep is replaced by new matter left there by the blood, which has taken it from the food ab¬ sorbed into t! stem. Tbe jerso o works his brain day and night con s Ids brain substance at a greater ra.. . an it is formed, his ex¬ penditures are greater than his receipts, his income is not sufficient, but his capi¬ tal is encroached upon. With every action of which the brain is capable an increased amount of blood flows into the , organ, and if it is kept inordinately at ■. work the blood vessels become perrna- ; nently distended, they lose their elasticity. ; They are like an India rubber band that , is placed around a large bundle of papers and left there for several months. When the papers are removed the band does not contract to its original dimensions.—Will¬ iam A. Hammond in New York Mail and Express. Do yon suffer with catarrh? The management of these huge dry goods house3 in New York is a matter of larger import than the careless multitude surging through them all day long ever stop to think. The army of employes is as large and difficult a command as that of many epaulette*! officers gain renown for controlling, and is made up of much more unruly elements than that compos¬ ing most regiments. There are many West Point graduates prepared tc assume the control of large bodies of men, but if their command was composed to a would great extent of women and children they probably prefer the position of private in the ranks or would hastily resign from the service at once. The fact, too, that the majority of the customers are women and unused to business methods compli¬ cates the di.Ticulty beyond computation. —Brooklyn Eagle. t —fuu- weioTTF ^_PURE ___- | | i Its superior for excellence proven iu millions of homes more than a quarter of a cen tury.
