TheConied ■ irvivors’Associa
tion of Morgan couitj have decided
to build a monument to the memory
of the Confederate dead buried at
Madison. These soldiers were all,
or nearly all, from other States.
They died here in the hospitals from
sickness or wounds received in battles
above and at .d Atlanta. The Sur
vivors’ Ass on have appointed a
committee, ol .. -iehCol.T. P. Gibbs
is chairman, to solicit funds for the
building of this monument. In can
vassing the committee finds that it
cannot raise sufficient money in Mor
gan county. Therefore, it must ask
aid without the county. These sol
diers received their fatal wonnds or
sickness while defending Atlanta in
the iate war, and therefore Atlanta
sbouid aid in this matter. Col. T.
P. Gibbs is authorized to solicit and
receive money for this purpose, and
all sums should be addressed to him.

Belle* of Jionuandy.
In the towns and villages of Normandy
one finds a high average of female
beauty. The rural belle of Normandy is
a brunette, w ithout being of the extreme
type. Her eyes are brown, rather than
black, her hair may be either black or
dark auburn, and her cheeks are inclined
to be of a warm, rosy hue. Judging the
Normandy woman in comparison w ith
those of England or America, I should
say that while the former average high,
there is too great a sameness about the
type to present the fascinating variety
one meets with in either of the other two
countries named.—Thomas Stevens in
Courier-J ournaL
I.'xperieuc-e in Dream*.
There are some very remarkable thingB
about dreams. In the first place they are
twice as real as reality. Did you evei
fall down stair- in dreams \ If you have,
you must have observed that it is a much
more terrible experience than billing
down stairs w hen you are awake—except
that you don’t hare the bruises to nurse
afterward. But the mental experience
of falling down stairs in a dream is some¬
thing awful.—Cleveland Leader.

\ \I :ir Ror*f,
At a dinner in>t U*ug ago one of the
guests remarked that Bavarian horses
were celebrated for their general worth¬
lessness. He said that a dealer sold one
to a German officer during the Franco-
Prussian war, and warranted him to be a
good war horse. The soldier came back
afterward in a towering passion and said
he had been swindled. ‘-And how?”
said the dealer. “Why, there is not a
bit of -go’ in him, and yet you warranted
him as a good war horse.” “Yes, I did;
and. by George! he is a good war horse.
He'd sooner die than run!”—Exchange,
