MAH WANTS BUT LITTLE

mighty quick. A
LITTLE WANT,
cr a big one is promptly filled by ad¬
vertising in the Daily or
Weekly NEWS.
A LETTER OP HONENT INQUIRY,
The Sontli Traduced Tor Political
Reason*.
McIntosh & Davis :
I have seen your pamphlet about
Albany, Georgia, arid K o take tho
liberty of writing- yon. 1 have been
for some time nef/onating for ihe
purchase ol the----plantation (in
Dougherty county—Ed.) and per¬
haps making Albany my winter
borne. Is a true that there is a
prejudice tiicie against Northern
people and alter once purchasing
they are boy owned until they leave?
And iliat even colored people will
not work for them? I am told this
is so, but cannot believe if. It would
be useless for tue to purchase there if
such was tne case. ------
Tite above letter, from a gentle
man in a Northern State, was re¬
ceived by the News and Advertiser,
last Friday, and the editor says that
a frank reply to nil its honest ques
tions was sent in response. There is
no other reason, he continues, for
such wiillul and prolonged slander
of the South, but political chicanery.
The politicians of the Foraker,
Sherman ami Ingalls stripe, traduce
a warm hearted and manly people
for no other than a sinister motive,
which reduces them so low hi the
scale of respectability as to almost
disarm enmity and excite pity, and
even robs revenge of its dignity.
The South is making strenuous
efforts to secure immigration, and it
is incomprehensible how any one
could believe that our people would
be so blind to their own interest as
to mistreat settlers, even though
their desire should run thus. But it
is not true that Northern men are
not cordially welcomed among us.
The chivalrie spirit of the South
makes her people kindly disposed
and hospitable to all, and strangers
are accorded every mark of respect
that does natt compromise the dignity
of our people.
Iri the South as it is at the North,
East and West, the degree of respect
and deference shown one is in pro
portion to the respectability of
conduct and purity of character. So
all who come South can know of
themselves how they are to be
received. If they fill the measure
of the requirements of ihe standard
for gentlemen, they will be so
received, but if they are vagabonds,
they will be classed amoDg the
vagabonds of this clitne, and must
expect to herd with them for com
panionsbip.
While we want settlers, we will
not seek them at the sacrifice of our
social institutions, but if an honest,
though poor, plain, but pure man
comes to our section, he will engage
our respect, confidence and esteem,
the only true foundation for friend
ship and which abne can open our
homes or hearts.
Many Northern men in this section
can attest to the friendly character
of our people, and the News and
Advertiser reterred the writer of this
letter to them with confidence in the
justice of their report as to the
dignified and courteous character of
the citizens of Dougherty county.
Functional derangements of the fe
male system is quickly cured by tho use
of Dr. R. V. Pierce's “Favorite Pre
soriptiou." It removes paiu and re

decomposing animal drains, and vegetable mat¬

able conditions for the development, or
rather the breeding, of germs; for, re*

Spontaneously generated. Bad hygienic
surroundings may induce disease, but not
the specific contagious diseases to which
we liave referred. Finally—the most

seed, so, however favorable the condition-,
for breeding fevers and diphtheria may
be, tlxey will not occur without the intro¬
duction of germs. To exclude them re¬
quires constant and painstaking watch¬
fulness. The enemy may gain admission
through the milk supply, through im¬
properly disinfected clothing, or through
personal contagion, which it is almost im¬
possible to avoid. and
Many germs possess groat vitality,
when once they have gained access to a
house, or any of its contents, resist de¬
struction most persistently. They may
be destroyed in various ways. Bi-chlo¬

pecially in the form at hot steam, are all

in closed rooms; but nothing can
the place of cleanliness and watchfulness
against the introduction of disease germs.
