Ga., May 1.—I do not sup pose there are many people who know where the beautifal little town of Rover is. it being built op and given its name only about two years ago. In the first place-we will try to give tbe readers of oar paper its location, thereby helping them very much in finding as oat. especially if they have got any bills against os. The name of Rover was taken from tbe name of our president, bat as there was some postoffice already with the name of Grover we decided to take c ft a., first letter and have it os net r tbe ; one as possible, so we b&pt / d i Rover. It is situated about fivt miles west of Griffin, on tbe old plank road, tbe G. M. rail road passing right through it aDd which is designated by the company as a flag stat ; on, although the maii stops every day. The people, geo erally speaking, are poor, the most of them being renters, but to find a better class .so far e.j generosity and law abiding < , are concerned you will have to go to another coon try. The lands are very productive and generally tbe farmers make plen ty to do all round. We have two stores, owned by Messrs. William son and Wcatherby, who do a splen did business for the times, mostly cash; one i • ’ smith shop, run by one of tbe ! ■ ‘smiths in tbe covn try, and a m ge public ginnery, which does a vast amount of work in its season; and a Baptist chnrcb, where they engage in Sunday schotl every Sunday evening aDd preach ing tbe third Sunday. We have a population of about seventy whites and fifty blacks, all being id peace and harmony and willing to help one another and respect all whom they may come in contact with, which by so doing makes it a place which is pleasant to live in as well as pleas ant to visit. We are needing rain very much; we cannot plow our corn as it ought to be and the cotton is coming up very slowly, 60 of course cannot com mence work on that till it does come. But we are living in hopes and by bopiDg we expect to have a good rain now in a few days. If we don’t we will get so lazy and fat that we won’t be able to fight the nasty green sins’ after awhile, having caught up and now waiting on the cotton to come np. Zol Isou says he has enough year before last corn left to finish a three horse crop with this year, having mide a crop off of it last year and enough to make this crop with. We need more young men like him, who make plenty at home and ain’t afraid to get between the handles himself: but he needs tome one to help him take care of things. In talking about politics the other day, on tbe third party question, one of these here get-about'lively fel¬ lows had the assurance to say that the Democracy of Spalding County had bolted clean out of sight. I don't quite understand ; what he means, bat if he means that tbe true Democrats of the county have for aaken tbe fiajr for this said to be new party, he ia by himself and had bet ter stick to us before his man gets back, because it wont do to plav off ; ^bile tbe boss i» away and when he gets back say he is for him and j always has beeu. No siree. Bob! j * tbat , tocl ( ]o mister. I like for a mau tQ b(? fim (Dot w j shy , wa8by) 1 and stick to his party and be what he is and Dothing else; because if he don't he will get left, and no vedemp tion for him. No, sir; we are full- blooded Democrats and expect to stick to the poor man’s friend and not jump the rope because a Sam Small party comes oat on tho plat form and says ‘ let's have a prohibi tion party.” Preacuera are hefe for that business, and I think they ought to stick to their party and keep it up, aud the Democrats and Rad's \vi!i try to keep theirs up. All will carry basket din¬ ners, and everybody is invited, and the writer would like very much to meet the editor of the Griffis News out. The farmers are ueeding rain very bad; little cotton where it has lame up is all or nearly all dying out, and two th’rds of all has not come up, nor can it till it rains, and it will take a good rain to bring it up.
