If Blaine and Cleveland should
again be the opposing candidates for
the presidency it would only be the
second time in the history af our
country that the same candidates
were in the field in two successive
o mpaigns. Who can mention the
fist instance?—[Atlanta U»n»tUn-
row.
(Job W. T Trammell says that
the first instance was in 18#2 when
Andrew Jackaori ran against John
Quincy Adams and beat him, after
having first been beaten by him in
1828. This was the time, in the first
contest, when Henry Clay supported
Adams and was afterward appointed
to his cabinet, about which a great
hue and cry was raised oi “bargain

Columbus Enquirer Sun,
Mr. \V. J. Watt, one of our most
successful and enterprising men, re¬
turned from a trip to Cedartown yes
terday. Mr- Watt gives an interest
ing account of bis trip. While in
Cedartown, he had the pleasure of
meeting Col. Williamson, president
of the Chattanooga, Rome ard Colum
bus railroad and Mr. Franklin, tbe
English banker who is representing
the men who are furnishing the
money to build this road. President
Williamson informed Mr. Watt that
he wanted to build ins road to Colum
bus at once and would do so if the
citizens of Columbus and the people
along the line would give him the
proper encouragement. President
Williamson said thrt he would visit
Columbus in a short time to consult
with the citizens abont building the
road. Columbus needs this road,
and the road needs Columbus. The
men who are building the roa l mean
business As an evidence of this
fast, have only to men ion that the
road was built from Chattanooga to
Carrollton, a distance of l«>0 miles,
j„ s i s months. The distance from
Carrollton to Columbus will not ex
ceed eighty miles, and if our citizens
will meet Mr. Williamson in the
right spirit be will complete his
road to this city before the fust of
Januasy, next. The banker, Mr.
