AN INCUBUS ON THE ALLIANCE. « Men Who Rain Merchants find Do Not Pay Their UebtH. Mr Editor: —“Whoso rewardetb evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.” Prov. 17-13. A certain remark often reposted by a small minority of narrow minded members of the Farmer’s Alliance, will account for the scriptural quota tion at the head of this article. They say we are going to ruin the merchants, and seem to rejoice more at the prospective ruin of that esscn tiul class of citizens than they do at the prospective benefits that may ac crue to the people through that or ganixation; Therefore this defense is made in behalf of the merchants, not because the writer io interested in a pin hook business, but because be is grateful for favors extended him by the merchants. The Farmer’s Alliance, with ihe exception of the small minority re ferred to, is composed of broad mind ed farming citizens of the country, whose objects are grand and noble, in the execution o' whitfh all good men will bid them God speed. They have a rignt to organize for the good of the people in general, and them ■elves in particular. This is a free country, and all bon orable occupations should be respect ed. Let the extortioner lose bis pat ronage and honest men live by their calling. Then prosperity wil! crown the legitimate efforts of all. To this end may the Alliance prosper and spread like a green bay tree. In all that ban been or may be said in this article about the miuori ty, no reference is made to honest men who, through misfortune, fail to pay their debts as they’ desire. Many good men fail and again renew their ef forts with a longing desire to meet their obligations. Such men deserve as much respect as an old time nabob. Those who wilfully express a desire to ruin their benefactors are meant, and they only. Moreover, they are advised to get from under, for some thing is going to drap. Gentlemen, do you know that you baDg like an incubus upon society! Well, you do. The night mars is nowhere when compared to the suf locating sensation that the weight of your good for nothing life places upon the breast of the public. You have been ruining folks lo! these j many years. Seven tenths of all the merchants that have failed in this countiy have been ruined by yon* Yes, you have cojsuuu .1 tneir goodg and never paid for them. Now yea join an organization designed for the good of all the people and yet express a desire to reward evil for good. It is feared that you will hang heavily upon the hands of the Alliance, for if yonr motto ig ruin to others, according to ihe text, ruin will come borne to roost. To do good for evil is scriptural, and emanates from a jpivine pricci pie, but to do evil for good is un scriptural aod smells like Hades ShOBTI EU.OW. Advice to Mother*. M.s.
