Miller, Chair’n; Pope Barrow was elected chairman of th6 Georgia delegation ia St, Lon ip, as suggested by the News. Robert L. Berner, of Forsyth, * is Georgia's vice president of the con vention. One of the results of the talk of Judge Thurman as the Democratic nominee for the Vice Presidency is fittd to be a sudden impetus to the somewhat languishing Sherman boom. Thurman’s name on the Democratic ticket will make Sher¬ man's on the Republican a necessity, say the friends of the latter. Good. There is no man the Democrats would rather see nominated by the Republicans than the lion. John SherraaO. < DON’T BE EDITORS. The following extract is from Col. P. Donan’s address before the Ar¬ kansas Press Association: “Boys of my audience, bright faced, aspiring youth, longing for the shortest and quickest road t for tune, hear a solemn adjuration, and be warned in time. Never be edi tors—everybody’s packing blocks, creation’s scapegoats and sway back¬ ed pack mules. Deadhead tickets to oircuses, dog shows and festivals — (paid for at the rate of a twenty-five dollar notice for a twenty-five cent ticket)—-all very well in their way; and daily bouquets from the girls who want to see their names in the papers, with the “beautiful and ac complisbed” formula swung to them, are “just too charming for any thing.” But do not let them lead you into that dingy den of inky horror, tread mill labor and squandered opportunities, burlesquely known as the editorial •anctnm. Stand back. Keep out. Be boot blacks, chimney sweeps, penitentiary birds or members of the maniac menagerie that meets in the gorgeous white Bepulchre ol a capitol at Washington. Be mud clerks on a coal barge, deck hands in a tripe factory, brakemen on canal boats, engineers on a one donkey power canal boat, dairymen with an aged ox and two he goats as your stock in trade, servant girls in a poor bouse or orphan asylum. Be stock gamblers, railroad directors, presidents of sau- ssgo staffing machines, rag venders, charcoal brawlers, chambermaids in a livery stable, or policy spouting Senators—but never, no never, bo editors, for half of one is three quarters too muob for any well egu lated family to have about the house.” Cap!, Barclay Won a Prize in a Lottery Cspt. William H. Ban-lay, the pension agent at Pittsburgh, has drawn a $75,000 prize from the Louisiana State Lottery. He said; “Sometime ago I purcast*two half tlekete at $5. Yesterday 1 was notified that ticket No. 12,615 had drawn the dapital prize of $150,000, and as that is the number of one of my half tickets, I am entitled to half that amount and $25 besides, in rs much as all tickets ending with the number 15 are good for $50 each I understand that the other Philadelphia half of the capital meehauka,-[Indianapolis(Ind) prizo was won by five Journal, April 22. Ask your urcrgivL THE NEWS WILL LEAD, THANK TOC The triumphs of Tbe Constitntica in reporting tbe campaign of 1884 are well remembered!. It was tbe first son them paper to announce Cleveland’s election sod majority, that and-Atlanta bad celebrated event before othe? southern cities knew rf b! Tbe Constitution led all southern papers in 1884!—[Atlanta Constitution. This does very well for a campaign announcement, but it has tbe well known unfortunate tendency of tbe Constitution’s “facts’' to be untrue. Tbe Griffin Daily Nxws, by a special and expensive service covering tbe whole ground, announced Cleveland’s election triumphantly and simultane oasly with tbe Constitution and stuck to it and proved it against tbe whole Associated Press. We scknowl edge that tbe Constitution did sac ceed in partially securing the true and accurate reports of tbe election at tbe same time; but the News came out morning after morning with more and different kinds of roosters than the Constitution ever saw eggs. As for celebrations, didn’t Griffin have three or foot’ in succession, even if there was no legislature to break up ? * . Tbe Constitution baa more capital* and cheek and readier facilities than tbe News, bat it can’t lead it or beat it in enterprise, nor compare with it in sound Democracy. Having helped to make tbe plat form and having always been true and foremost in support of the lead er and tbe policy of tbe party, tbe News will be in the lead of the Dem ocratic boats of Georgia tnis year as in 1884. Now is tbe time te subscribe, and be sure of getting sound doc trine from sound Bonrces and genn ine news without any sorehead or pro tectionist bias, at half tbe price of o ther papers.
