The Farmers' Alliance Puts Out Can¬ didates for the Legislature. GuoeKvnxE, Ga., July 6.—Two delegates from each county alliance lodge met in Greenville yesterday and a majority pat out two candi dates. A. J. Saelaon aad J. W. Tay lor, for the legislature. It ia thought by his nearest friends that Dr. Taylor will not accept the nomination. These candidates are put out to se core the alliance vote at the demo oratic primary election to be held on the 4th of Augnst By some it is held that this step is a violation of alliance rulings that the order shall not go into politics. The promoters of the movement bold that the ac tion being only a recommendation that the two candidates be snpported by the order at the democratic pri m&ry, is not, strictly speaking, a go ing into politics. It is thought Itev. E. C. Thrash, who has announced his candidacy, will retire from the race. Messrs, Hill and Terrell, members of the last legislature, are candidates for re election, and the contest prom ises to be odo of the warmest Merri wether has known for years; Get rid of that tired feeling Sarsaparilla, as quiok which as possible. To the question, how to write, I should ■ay don’t write at all, unless you are cure you have the gift, which is God given, born with you, and can no more be made to order than can a taste for music when one lias no car for it. Don't think you can write because yoa are fond of reading stories and devout everything which comes in your way, or because you think yourself as capable as your friend, who has achieved a success you fain would emulate. Yon must have the ideal world in you and about you. You must early bo familiar with the imaginary people you are to make real, and who, if you are real yourself, will come to you sleeping and waking, at day dawn and sunset, and laying their shadowy’ hands on yours will hold you fast until you tingle to your finger tip? and can no more keep from writing than the bird can keep from singing when the dew is on the grass and the morning is at its freshest. If you have never ex¬ perienced this glow of enthusiasm, if you nave no imagination and are taking up writing as you think would any other business, because you it will pay, or you want fame and money, don’t try to write, tor it Slaty you do it will be stilted and unnatural.— J. Tax St-us U the only New York newspaper possessing the fullest confidence of the Na¬ tional Administration and the United Dem¬ ocracy ot New York, the political battle ground of the Republic. Jeffersonian Democracy, pure and simple, is good enough for the Stab. Single hand¬ ed among the metropolitan press, it has stood by the men called by the great Democ¬ racy to redeem the government from twenty-five years of Republican wastefulness and corruption and despotism to the South, For three four year* past it has been answers’ ing in its fidelity the administration of Grov¬ er Cleveland. It is for him now—for Cleve¬ land Thurman—for four years more of Democratic honesty in onr national affairs, and of continued national tranqniiity and prosperity. For people who like that sort of Democracy the Stab is the paper to read. The Stab stands squarely on the National Democratic platform. It believes that any tribute exacted from the people in excess of the demands of a government economically administered is essentially oppressive and dishonest. The scheme fostered and cham¬ pioned by the Republican part-of making the government a miser, wringing millions an nually from the people and loekihg them np In vaults to serve no purpose but invite waste fulness and dishonesty, It regards $s a mon¬ strous crime against the right of American citizenship. Republican political jugglers may call it ‘•protective taxation;’’ the Stab’s uame for it is robbery. Through and through the Stab is a great newspaper. Its tone is l u-e and wholesome, its news serviee unexceptionable. Each i-sae presents an epitome of what is best worth knowing of the world’s htstory of yesterday. Its stories are told in good, quick, pictur- eque Edglisb, and mighty interesting read¬ ing they are. The 8chdat Stab is as good as the best class magazine, and prints about the same amount of matter. Besides the day’s news it is rich in speslal descriptive articles, sto ries, snatches of current literature, reviews, art criticism, etc. B i (te's inimatible hu- mor sparkles in its c i . j, is; Will Carleton’s delightful letters are U its choice offerings.
