Cleveland Plain Dealer: The tram

fallen like a wet blanket in Ohio.
ffl fAiA of men in this city *nd

record made by the national adminis

the present Republican policy of coo

have brought about the great change
of sentiment ana filled the Demo
cratic ranks with these independent
thinking men. The change is be
coming so great that consternation
is filling the minds of the Repobli
cans in Ohio. They see gradually
going from tbeir grasp a State that
for many years baa been reliably Re
publican in presidential years. We
have but t» say to the Democrats,
Do your duty from now until next
November.
If the children of Israel ever re
turn to Jerusalem they will have to
drivo out the Germans, who are cut
ting out everybody else out there.
They have invaded the Holy Land

southern Europe. They settle and
there they stay. They are teaching
the people better manufacturing
habits and a love of German wares.
The trade of Jerusalem is now done
largely, and is liaely to be done al¬
most exclusively, with Germany.
The Germanizalion of Palestine is
proceeding so rapidly that the
Bri ish Consul at Jerusalem calls the
attention of the government to it.
Uere is a pretty romance of an
other poor young rnan. A skilled
civil and raining engineer obtained
a position as engineer on the New
York Aqueduct tn a manner com¬
mendable for its honesty and energy.
When he was imforined that there
were no vacancies, rather than be an
idler, he surprised the superintendent
by donning blue overalls and accept
ing a position with Italians and
negro laborers at 41.50 a day in one
of the shafts. After a week with
the pick and shovel he was advanced
to a 42,500 position. A great many
American diggers are waiting for
promotion.

more than a quarter of a century.
They came up from the east and
down from the north, from the banks
of the St. Croix and the upper waters
of the Kennebec, even as they did
when Maine first broke away from
Federal oad Whig influences to take

was the ratification of the nominations
of Grover Cleveland and Allen G.

were Maine Democrats so united on
national candidates and the principles
laid down in the platform.
