Col. The Democratic party met at the court bonse today coder a cali of the chairman of the Executive Commit tee. The meeting was called to or dor by the chairman, E. W. Rose, who stated iLc object of the meeting to be the appt n[inertt of delegates to the Uuberr ‘orial, Congressional and Senaiuriai conventions. The meeting was then permanent ly organized by the election of J. H. I Mitnhell, chairman, and R. Y. Beck ham secretary. On motion a com mittee of five, consisting of J. A. Hunt, J. S. Pope, R. H. Allen, E. F. Dupree and A. J. Pryor, was appoint ed by the chair to name delegates to the different - v ntions and re port other business fir the meeting. The committee retired and soon returned with the following report, which was adopted without dissent: Whereas, The Democratic party of the county of Pike has been di vided on the question of prohibition to the great <' ‘iitneut of the inter ests of the pe of the county, and , which we greu. y deplore, and ear neatly desiring an adjustment of the difference which has thus divided the party, and recognizing the fact that there no longer exists any cause for division. Therefore be it resolved 1st. That we accept the present local option law now of force in the county, as embodied in the act of 1887, and ktiown as the "Gardner as a settlement of the probibi tion question in the county of Pike and hereby pledge tbe Democratic of the county of Pike to abide same as a final settlement of the issue, and that we will ask no further thereon except such as be necessary to perfect said bill make it effectual. 2nd. That on this platform we in vite all Democrats of the county to meet ns. 3rd. That we regard the effort to divide tbe Democratic party by what is known as tbe ‘Third party movement” as unwise, ilftimed, and calculated to work great injury, not only to the Democratic party but to the whole people, and so believing we will discountenance tbe same. 4lb. That it is our purpose aud intention to nominate f*cm the ranks of the Democratic paity both for rep resentatives and county officers the very best men who can be induced to serve us in those positions without regard to their views on the question of local option; regarding that ques tion as settled by tbe act of 1S87. 5tb. That the Democrats of the different districts of the county bo requested to elect the number of del egates to which they are entitled in a convention to bo held at the court house in the town of Zebuion on the first Tuesday in Angnst next to nom inale two candidates for the next general assembly of the State and that at the same time they elect the number of executive committee-men to which each district is entitled, and that in said election all Democrats of the county are invited to participate without regard to past differences on local issues. Gtb. That we most heartily en dorse the administration of 1 is excel iency John B. Gordon, and hereby instruct the delegates appointed by Ibis meeting to the State convention to be held August 8th to vote for his re-nomination. We also most heartily commend the present State bouse officers as honest, faithful and efficient public seivants and instruct oar delegates to vote for their renom¬ ination. 7tb. That we recognize in Jas. H. Blount, our present member in the Federal Congress, as a most faith ful and efficient representative, and as such we instruct the delegates ap pointed by this meeting to vote for bis renomiuation, 8th. That under tbe rotation sys tern we recognize the right of the county of Bibb to name the candidate for Senator for the 22nd district, and onr delegates to the Senatorial con vention are hereby instructed to vote for the nomination of the candidate that may be presented to the enr.vni of Bibb.
