Editor News—A violent storm passed over a portion of this county, this evening between 5 and 0 o’clock, doing considerable damage to the growing crops. The rainfall was heavy for about one hour, mixed with hail, almost covering the ground, and damaging the crops materially. The wind was very severe, doing much damage, blowing dowu the colored Methodist church of this place, in which a district meeting was being held, killing one of the delegates from Jonesboro, named James Smith. Five others were badly hurt by the falling of the church, some having limbs broken, but were promptly at tended by the physicians, and it is thought no othe” lives will be lost. No other damage was done in town except the blowing down of signs. I will give you full particulars tomor ow An Elegant Affair. An elegant reception was given yesterday evening at the residence of Capt. D. D. Peden on corner of Solomon and 8th streets, bj* Eddie Peden to and in honor of his cousin Miss Rose E. WilsoB, of Southwest Georgia. The entertainment was in every way a grand snccess and enjoyed by all who had the pleasure to be there. Miss Wilson is a student of the Rime Female College and is spend her vacation here with her cousin, Capt. D. D. Peden and family. She has made many friends while here and her departure will be regretted by many. In this connection we are sorry to state that Ed Peden leaves this morning for Houston, Texas Where he goes to resume bis position with S. M, Inman &. Co. in the cot ton business.
